This book was released on 1986 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The abundance of spawners in the 1985 herring run in British Columbia wateras assessed by the escapement method was 112,000 tonnes. The 1986 run isforecast at 143,000 t with average (1970-85) productivity. The 1986 forecasts for poor and good productivity are 113,400 t and 172,700 t respectively. For the south coast particularly it is anticipated that poorproductivity will prevail. The forecasts biomass of the major migratorystocks from age-structured model analysis for 1986 is 130,300 tonnes. Thispredicted run size reflects the downward stock trends in the central coastand south coast and the predictions of poor recruitment because of thecurrently unfavorable environmental conditions for these areas. The recommended 1986 catch level for the B.C. coast is 14,800 t.

Book Stock Assessments for British Columbia Herring in 1990 and Forecasts of the Potential Catch in 1991

Download or read book Stock Assessments for British Columbia Herring in 1990 and Forecasts of the Potential Catch in 1991 written by V. Haist and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents stock assessments from an escapement model and an age-structured model developed specifically for B.C. herring. Both models reconstruct stock abundance for 1951-90 and forecast pre-spawning abundance for the 1991 season. Forecasts of recruit spawners are presented as poor, average, and good based on historically observed means.

Book Stock Assessment for British Columbia Herring in 2002 and Forecasts of the Potential Catch in 2003

Download or read book Stock Assessment for British Columbia Herring in 2002 and Forecasts of the Potential Catch in 2003 written by J. F. Schweigert and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, herring stock abundance in British Columbia waters was assessed for 2002 and forecasts were made for 2003 using two analytical methods, an age-structured model for the major stock assessment regions and an escapement model for the minor stocks. These models have been applied to assess herring abundance since 1984 and changes were introduced to account for temporal change in the spawn index. All available biological data on total harvest, spawn deposition, and age & size composition of the spawning runs were used to determine current abundance levels. Forecasts of the pre-fishery spawning stock biomass are presented for both models.

Book Stock Assessment for British Columbia Herring in 1996 and Forecasts of the Potential Catch in 1997

Download or read book Stock Assessment for British Columbia Herring in 1996 and Forecasts of the Potential Catch in 1997 written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Herring are an important component of the British Columbia commercial fishery with catch records dating from 1877. Since 1983, herring fisheries have been managed with a fixed quota system in which catch levels are determined prior to the season based on a fixed percentage of forecast stock abundance. This report presents stock assessments from escapement and age-structured analytical models that were developed explicitly for B.C. herring. Both models reconstruct stock abundance from 1951 to last year and forecast pre-spawning abundance for the coming year. Forecasts of recruit spawners are presented as poor, average and good, based on historical recruitment levels. The report does not discuss the development and evaluation of empirical models for forecasting recruitment.
