Book excerpt: The theory of stochastic networks is an important and rapidly developing research area, driven in part by important industrial applications in the design and control of modern communications and manufacturing networks. This volume is a collections of invited papers written by some of theleading researchers in this field, and provides a comprehensive survey of current research and the very latest developments. With contributions from most of the world's foremost researchers the areas covered include the mathematical modelling and the optimal control of queueing and loss networks, and the statistical modelling and analysis of network data. Also containing a comprehensive and up-to-date bibliography of the statistical literature on long-range dependence and self-similarity in network traffic and other scientific and engineering applications this book will suit researchers, research institutes and industry throughout the world.

Book Performance Modeling Stochastic Networks and Statistical Multiplexing

Download or read book Performance Modeling Stochastic Networks and Statistical Multiplexing written by Ravi R. Mazumdar and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2013-06-01 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents a concise mathematical approach for modeling and analyzing the performance of communication networks with the aim of introducing an appropriate mathematical framework for modeling and analysis as well as understanding the phenomenon of statistical multiplexing. The models, techniques, and results presented form the core of traffic engineering methods used to design, control and allocate resources in communication networks. The novelty of the monograph is the fresh approach and insights provided by a sample-path methodology for queueing models that highlights the important ideas of Palm distributions associated with traffic models and their role in computing performance measures. The monograph also covers stochastic network theory including Markovian networks. Recent results on network utility optimization and connections to stochastic insensitivity are discussed. Also presented are ideas of large buffer, and many sources asymptotics that play an important role in understanding statistical multiplexing. In particular, the important concept of effective bandwidths as mappings from queueing level phenomena to loss network models is clearly presented along with a detailed discussion of accurate approximations for large networks. Table of Contents: Introduction to Traffic Models and Analysis / Queues and Performance Analysis / Loss Models for Networks / Stochastic Networks and Insensitivity / Statistical Multiplexing

Book Introduction to Stochastic Networks

Download or read book Introduction to Stochastic Networks written by Richard Serfozo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-09-27 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning with Jackson networks and ending with spatial queuing systems, this book describes several basic stochastic network processes, with the focus on network processes that have tractable expressions for the equilibrium probability distribution of the numbers of units at the stations. Intended for graduate students and researchers in engineering, science and mathematics interested in the basics of stochastic networks that have been developed over the last twenty years, the text assumes a graduate course in stochastic processes without measure theory, emphasising multi-dimensional Markov processes. Alongside self-contained material on point processes involving real analysis, the book also contains complete introductions to reversible Markov processes, Palm probabilities for stationary systems, Little laws for queuing systems and space-time Poisson processes.

Book Stochastic Networks and Queues

Download or read book Stochastic Networks and Queues written by Philippe Robert and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-10-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Queues and stochastic networks are analyzed in this book with purely probabilistic methods. The purpose of these lectures is to show that general results from Markov processes, martingales or ergodic theory can be used directly to study the corresponding stochastic processes. Recent developments have shown that, instead of having ad-hoc methods, a better understanding of fundamental results on stochastic processes is crucial to study the complex behavior of stochastic networks. In this book, various aspects of these stochastic models are investigated in depth in an elementary way: Existence of equilibrium, characterization of stationary regimes, transient behaviors (rare events, hitting times) and critical regimes, etc. A simple presentation of stationary point processes and Palm measures is given. Scaling methods and functional limit theorems are a major theme of this book. In particular, a complete chapter is devoted to fluid limits of Markov processes.

Book Productivity Measurement in R D

Download or read book Productivity Measurement in R D written by John T. Hall and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes an experiment in productivity measurement conducted at the National Bureau of Standards. The experiment concludes that no matter how sophisticated the analysis and synthesis processes become, statistical counts of output media (e.g., publications, citations, invited talks) will not serve as reliable measures of R&D productivity. The conduct of the experiment included a work sampling study, a communications study, an output analysis, a value analysis approach to developing criteria for selection and evaluation of programs, construct of a rating system for evaluation of programs, and construction of a model of the R&D process.

Book Broadband Communications Networks

It is currently one of the most effective media that is shifting to reach into all areas in today's society. While we move into the next decade, the future of many emerging technologies (IoT, cloud solutions, automation and AI, big data, 5G and mobile technologies, smart cities, etc.) is highly dependent on Internet connectivity and broadband communications. The demand for mobile and faster Internet connectivity is on the rise as the voice, video, and data continue to converge to speed up business operations and to improve every aspect of human life. As a result, the broadband communication networks that connect everything on the Internet are now considered a complete ecosystem routing all Internet traffic and delivering Internet data faster and more flexibly than ever before. This book gives an insight into the latest research and practical aspects of the broadband communication networks in support of many emerging paradigms/applications of global Internet from the traditional architecture to the incorporation of smart applications. This book includes a preface and introduction by the editors, followed by 20 chapters written by leading international researchers, arranged in three parts. This book is recommended for researchers and professionals in the field and may be used as a reference book on broadband communication networks as well as on practical uses of wired/wireless broadband communications.
