Book Stimulated Brillouin Scattering

Download or read book Stimulated Brillouin Scattering written by M J Damzen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-09-01 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is the most important example of a stimulated scattering process-light scattering that occurs when the intensity of the light field itself affects the propagating medium. A phenomenon that has been known of for some 35 years in solid state laser research, it has recently become relevant in the optical fiber ind

Book Stimulated Brillouin Scattering

Download or read book Stimulated Brillouin Scattering written by Jules Walder and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The characteristics of the Stokes light and the hypersound generated by the stimulated Brillouin scattering of ruby laser light in various liquids and fused quartz at room temperature are studied in detail experimentally. In the case of nonfocusing liquids such as n-hexane, methanol, and carbon tetrachloride, it is found that at room temperature the measured characteristics of the Stokes light agree well with calculated results obtained on the basis of the steady-state theory; all the constants needed in the calculation are available from completely independent measurements. A similar study is made of fused quartz at room temperature. The results on the Stokes intensity is also used to estimate the attenuation constant of the 24 GHz hypersound in fused quartz at room temperature; it is 280/cm. In addition, the hypersound is detected and the spatial distribution of its intensity is measured by means of Bragg-diffraction of a He-Ne laser beam. In addition, a brief review of the steady-state theory of the stimulated Brillouin process is also given. (Author).

Book The Airborne Microparticle

  • Release : 2002
  • ISBN : 9783540433644
  • Pages : 852 pages

Download or read book The Airborne Microparticle written by E. James Davis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002 with total page 852 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an extensive yet self-contained reference of single microparticle studies as they have been performed for many years by the authors. With the range of theoretical and experimental tools available it has become possible to use the many unique properties of droplets and small particles to investigate phenomena as diverse as, linear and nonlinear optics, solution thermodynamics, gas/solid and gas/liquid chemical reactions, transport properties such as gas phase diffusion coefficients, rate processes in the continuum and non-continuum regimes, trace gas uptake by aerosol droplets related to atmospheric chemistry and ozone depletion, phoretic phenomena, Raman spectroscopy, particle charge, evaporation and condensation processes. Throughout the book the main concern of the authors was to provide the reader with a visualization of the significance and application of the theory by experimental results.

Book Laser Stimulated Scattering and Multiphoton Excitation

Download or read book Laser Stimulated Scattering and Multiphoton Excitation written by Guang S. He and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-02-25 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Laser stimulated scattering and multiphoton excitation is the first book to comprehensively cover laser stimulated scattering studies and laser multiphoton excitation-related studies. It is essential reading for academics, research scientists, and students working or interested in the areas of nonlinear optics, nonlinear photonics, laser spectroscopy, physical optics, physical chemistry, and optoelectronic engineering. Featuring cutting-edge discussions of new discoveries in the field, including stimulated Rayleigh-Bragg scattering (SRBS) and stimulated Mie scattering (SMS), the book also examines multiphoton excitation-based nonlinear optical effects, photoelectric effects, atomic and molecular ionizatoin effects, and molecular dissociation effects. Each major stimulated scattering effect is presented in its own chapter, alongside a description of the key concepts and mechanisms, as well as the necessary theoretical formulations. Furthermore, this is an engaging text that explains the latest experimental research achievements and their scientific and technological applications."--Back cover

Book Brillouin Scattering in Aqueous Glycerol Solutions

Download or read book Brillouin Scattering in Aqueous Glycerol Solutions written by Charles Edward Bell and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements of the frequency shift of scattered 0.6328 micron laser light in glycerol-water mixtures are presented as a function of concentration and temperature. Measurements were made in mixtures containing up to 74 mole percent water over the temperature range +107C to -118C. The results confirm the existence of low and high frequency limiting longitudinal moduli. Calculations of the structural relaxation time of the glycerol-water mixtures at 0.0C are presented, and from these an estimate of the structural relaxation time of pure water is obtained. (Author).
