Book excerpt: "Still Unhealed follows from Healing the Church, though not as a workbook. The book has a pastoral approach, still using a medical diagnosis model, but with a new diagnosis, one that sees the sexual abuse crisis as endemic and, therefore, requiring a different prescription, along with a consultation with experts in the field of theology and business organizational management. As lead practitioner, Sr. Nuala brings her 'patient' to specialists who she consults, much like a family doctor would send their patient suffering from cancer to an oncologist: the family doctor is still overseeing her patient's care."--

Book excerpt: My reasons for writing this book are rather complex because I have seen no other books on the shelves that were comprehensive enough to interest the straight population as well. This book is as much for them as it is for gay people because it I believe it provides important information for them to help them understand us better and why many gay men may behave the way they do. Gay culture to the straight culture as always seemed mysterious as if we were hiding something. Perhaps we have been, so I hope this book helps them understand better the gay culture and hopefully it may help them better understand how certain behaviors may have developed and a bit of a history lesson on how gay culture originally came to be. My greatest hope is that this book will cause the much need discussion about why many of us behave the way we do. My thoughts are that the high school girly behaviors are the manifestations of unhealed wound, that I refer to as ghost wounds, that are a direct result of the damage that has been done during the very critical school age years when many of us were trying to find out who were and develop some self esteem. Unfortunately for most gay men that I have spoken to had very lonely childhoods, where they felt isolated, picked on at school, and they most often felt like outsiders. I believe these experiences have done more damage to gay people than we have ever given credit to. As a result these ghost wounds have never been healed and follow them around for a lifetime unless addressed and will influence much of your behaviors and most importantly your ability to understand and really feel the beauty and deliciousness of true intimacy whether it be with friends or lifepartners. Frequent sexual encounters are not intimacy. It's devoid of intimacy and often leads to a deeper feeling of isolation, loneliness and depression. The last of what I want to say is good luck in your que

Book The End of the Peace Process

Download or read book The End of the Peace Process written by Edward W. Said and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2007-12-18 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soon after the Oslo accords were signed in September 1993 by Israel and Palestinian Liberation Organization, Edward Said predicted that they could not lead to real peace. In these essays, most written for Arab and European newspapers, Said uncovers the political mechanism that advertises reconciliation in the Middle East while keeping peace out of the picture. Said argues that the imbalance in power that forces Palestinians and Arab states to accept the concessions of the United States and Israel prohibits real negotiations and promotes the second-class treatment of Palestinians. He documents what has really gone on in the occupied territories since the signing. He reports worsening conditions for the Palestinians critiques Yasir Arafat's self-interested and oppressive leadership, denounces Israel's refusal to recognize Palestine's past, and—in essays new to this edition—addresses the resulting unrest. In this unflinching cry for civic justice and self-determination, Said promotes not a political agenda but a transcendent alternative: the peaceful coexistence of Arabs and Jews enjoying equal rights and shared citizenship.

Book excerpt: Stolen Childhood is the story of what happened to some 380,000 Polish children who, with their families, were rounded up by Stalin's orders in 1939 and deported into Asiatic Russia. Lucjan Krolikowski, a young seminarian also deported there, shared and witnessed the suffering of his fellow Poles. Freed by an "amnesty," he joined the Polish Army, and when it moved to the Middle East, Lucjan resumed his theology studies, pronounced his vows, and became a chaplain to a Polish military hospital in Egypt. Reassigned to refugee camps in East Africa, Fr. Lucjan and the wandering Polish children met again in 1947 — a meeting that began a long and loving relationship. In 1949 when the Warsaw Communists claimed guardianship of the Polish orphans in Africa and demanded their repatriation, Fr. Lucjan was forced into a world of international intrigue. Called by the Communists "a kidnapper on an international scale," to his orphans, he was the good shepherd who led them to Canada, where he helped his charges overcome the theft of their childhood and become secure adults in a new world. Stolen Childhood is the book of memories he wrote for them, and a cautionary history for people of good will.
