Book excerpt: The book Still Trudging is a follow-up of the book I Trudged and is a continuation of stories describing the author's life going from a path of almost certain death to a life without complaints or regrets. Changing the word trudged to trudging implies that the journey is an ongoing adventure, with still much to do. He describes a long process of recovery; for him, recovery was not a "one-and-done" event. The author paints a picture of his progress through a series of short stories. He ties together his personal experiences with the principles of recovery taught to him by those he met along the way.

Book Trudging Towards the Truth

Download or read book Trudging Towards the Truth written by Renee Wolf-Crow DeNunez and published by Manda Publishers. This book was released on 2023-07-15 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dear reader, You may have opened this book and began to read this page wondering; why is it titled “Trudging toward the Truth”? You may be wondering what this book is about, and why you should continue to read on... Well, I will say this, we have all battled darkness in our lives, in one way or another, we have all longed for the truth, and to say finding it isn’t painful, would be a lie. I believe that reading this collection of poems will, at the very least, help you begin your journey toward the truth and away from darkness and pain. If anything; you’ll read words that relate to how you’ve felt in some way, but could not even begin to express...Renee has been through more than anyone I know, and if I were asked to describe her, the first words that come to mind are “resilient” and “relentless.” Darkness casted its shadow upon her like a permanent jumbo umbrella before she could talk. Her mother gave her own life for Renee--I believe in a poor attempt--to make Renee’s better. And ever since then, the search for truth was nothing short of essencial. There’s a quote from a song that I think truly resonates with Renee. It's excerpt says; *"I'll tell the moon, take this weapon forged in darkness, some see a pen, I see a Harpoon.”(excerpt from the song "ode to sleep" by 21 pilots ) This quote resonates with Renee, because she has fought lies, pain, loss, and especially darkness through her writing. A woman who’s lost so much, been deceived by many, hurt by more, been stricken with illness after illness has effortlessly, gracefully, used her pens, paper, and her words as a weapon to fight back whatever evil that’s come her way, and with every word she’s written, I believe she wins a little every time. I also believe that her search for truth, and long lasting battle with darkness has made this sometimes dismal world, a lot brighter. In my honest opinion, To not buy this book, to not turn the page and read on would be a mistake. Because if there’s anyone who can relate to your pain, and help you make peace with it, it’s Renee Wolf- Crow De Nunez.

Book The Power of the Paddle

Download or read book The Power of the Paddle written by Jordan Wylie and published by Biteback Publishing. This book was released on 2021-11-09 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sunday Times Bestseller 'His name was Ibrahim. He was about five years old and the thing he wanted most in the world was to go to school.' In a tiny country on the Horn of Africa, extreme adventurer, former soldier and star of Channel 4's Hunted Jordan Wylie made an extraordinary promise to a remarkable young boy. Ibrahim's home Djibouti is a refuge from neighbouring war zones, playing host to children excluded from the basic privileges we take for granted in the West. So, armed with skills learned from a lifetime of adventures, Wylie vowed to raise funds to build a new school for those children. And thus began a series of exceptional challenges, seeing Wylie row solo across the pirate-infested Bab el-Mandeb Strait in a world first and run extreme marathons in ice-cold climates. To cap it off, he embarked on a journey stand-up paddleboarding around mainland Great Britain, along the way facing military firing ranges, crazy teenagers on jet-skis, psychotic jellyfish and, finally, Covid-19. This is the inspirational true story of the lengths one man went to fulfil a young boy's dream – and of the good that can be achieved even in the hardest of times.

Book excerpt: In 1962 the poet, musician, and performer Maya Angelou claimed another piece of her identity by moving to Ghana, joining a community of "Revolutionist Returnees" inspired by the promise of pan-Africanism. All God's Children Need Walking Shoes is her lyrical and acutely perceptive exploration of what it means to be an African American on the mother continent, where color no longer matters but where American-ness keeps asserting itself in ways both puzzling and heartbreaking. As it builds on the personal narrative of I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and Gather Together in My Name, this book confirms Maya Angelou’s stature as one of the most gifted autobiographers of our time.

Book In the Line of Fire

Download or read book In the Line of Fire written by Pervez Musharraf and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2006-09-26 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to Time magazine, Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf holds "the world's most dangerous job." He has twice come within inches of assassination. His forces have caught more than 670 members of al Qaeda in the mountains and cities, yet many others remain at large and active, including Osama bin Laden and Ayman Al Zawahiri. Long locked in a deadly embrace with its nuclear neighbor India, Pakistan has come close to full-scale war on two occasions since it first exploded a nuclear bomb in 1998. As President Musharraf struggles for the security and political future of his nation, the stakes could not be higher for the world at large. It is unprecedented for a sitting head of state to write a memoir as revelatory, detailed, and gripping as In the Line of Fire. Here, for the first time, readers can get a firsthand view of the war on terror in its central theater. President Musharraf details the manhunts for Osama and Zawahiri and their top lieutenants, complete with harrowing cat-and-mouse games, informants, interceptions, and bloody firefights. He tells the stories of the near-miss assassination attempts, not only against himself but against Shaukut Aziz (later elected prime minister) and one of his top army officers (later the vice chief of army staff), and of the abduction and beheading of Daniel Pearl -- as well as the forensic and shoe-leather investigations that uncovered the perpetrators. He details the army's mountain operations that have swept several valleys clean, and he talks about the areas of North Waziristan where al Qaeda is still operating. Yet the war on terror is just one of the many headline-making subjects in In the Line of Fire. The full story of the events that brought President Musharraf to power in 1999 is told for the first time. He reveals new details of the 1999 confrontation with India in Kashmir (the Kargil conflict) and offers a proposal for resolving the Kashmir dispute. He offers a portrait of Mullah Omar, with stories of Pakistan's attempts to negotiate with him. Concerning A. Q. Khan and his proliferation network, he explains what the government knew and when it knew it, and he reveals fascinating details of Khan's operations and the investigations into them. In addition, President Musharraf takes many stances that will make news. He calls for the Muslim world to recognize Israel once a viable Palestinian state is created. He urges the repeal of Pakistan's 1979 Hudood law. He calls for the emancipation of women and for their full political equality with men. He tells the sad story of Pakistan's experience with democracy and what he has done to make it workable.

Book excerpt: ‘The author is a sympathetic narrator and he has told his story… with genuine verve and style… [His] South Tyrolean origins, and his role in the Brandenburg Division make the book very distinctive.’ Roger Moorhouse. The Brandenburgers were Hitler’s Special Forces, a band of mainly foreign German nationals who used disguise and fluency in other languages to complete daring missions into enemy territory. Overshadowed by stories of their Allied equivalents, their history has largely been ignored, making this memoir all the more extraordinary. First published in German in 1984, de Giampietro's highly personal and eloquent memoir is a vivid account of his experiences. In astonishing detail, he delves into the reality of life in the unit from everyday concerns and politics to training and involvement in Brandenburg missions. He details the often foolhardy missions undertaken under the command of Theodor von Hippel including the June 1941 seizure of the Duna bridges in Dunaburg and the attempted capture of the bridge at Bataisk where half of his unit were killed. Translated into English for the first time, this is a unique insight into a fascinating slice of German wartime history, both as an account of the Brandenburgers and within the very particular context of the author’s South Tyrolean origins. Given the very perilous nature of their missions very few of these specially trained soldiers survived the Second World War and much knowledge of the unit has been lost forever. Widely regarded as the predecessor of today’s special forces units, this fascinating account brings to life the Brandenburger Division and its part in history in vivid and compelling detail.
