Book Esoteric Medicine and Practical Magic

Download or read book Esoteric Medicine and Practical Magic written by Samael Aun Weor and published by Glorian Publishing. This book was released on 2013-07-22 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In ancient times, only the wisest were trusted with medical knowledge, for it bears power over life and death. The remedies and methods of those seers may have been abandoned by modern civilization, but they have been preserved, and retain their power. Throughout all of our most sacred traditions, it is known that Nature is the source for all genuine medicine. The teachings of Paracelsus, Galen, Tibetan tantras, and others all agree that a properly prepared individual can use Nature to cure any illness. Magic:derived from the ancient word "mag" that means "priest" (from magos "one of the members of the learned and priestly class," from O.Pers. magush). Thus, genuine magic is the power of a priest or holy person to help others. Samael Aun Weor, founder of the International Gnostic Movement and author of more than sixty books about practical spirituality, lived in close contact with the mysterious natives of the Sierra Nevada of South America, who have been in self-imposed isolation from the rest of the world for hundreds of years. The priests and doctors of that region taught him and his wife Litelantes their system of training and many of their healing methods, revealed here to the public for the first time. Perhaps most astonishing is that the philosophy and spiritual concepts are fundamentally the same as the ancient knowledge of Kabbalah, the Greeks, Tibetans, and others. This collection of hundreds of techniques and practices will guide you to awaken consciousness, perform healing for yourself and others, and return to the core natural medical knowledge of the ages. Includes more than 300 remedies Explains the training and preparation of the true healer Provides an overview of the causes of illness

Book excerpt: Completely revised and updated, this new edition provides a readable, beautifully illustrated journey through world cultures and the vibrant array of sky mythology, creation stories, models of the universe, temples and skyscrapers that each culture has created to celebrate and respond to the power of the night sky. Sections on the archaeoastronomy of South Asia and South East Asia have been expanded, with original photography and new research on temple alignments in Southern India, and new material describing the astronomical practices of Indonesia, Malaysia and other Southeast Asian countries. Beautiful photographs of temples in India and Asia have been added, as well as new diagrams explaining the alignment of these structures and the astronomical underpinnings of temples within the Pallava and Chola cultures. From new fieldwork in the Four Corners region of North America, Dr. Penprase has included accounts of Pueblo skywatching and photographs of ceremonial kivas that help elucidate the rich astronomical knowledge of the Pueblo people. The popular “Archaeoastronomy of Skyscrapers” section of the book has been updated as well, with new interpretations of skyscrapers in Indonesia, Taiwan and China. With the rapid pace of discovery in astronomy and astrophysics, entirely new perspectives are emerging about dark matter, inflation and the future of the universe. The Power of Stars puts these discoveries in context and describes how they fit into the modern perspective of cosmology, which has arisen from the universal human response to the sky that has inspired both ancient and modern cultures.

Book excerpt: Ever since Homo sapiens first looked up at the stars, we as a species have been looking for meaning in the mysteries of the night sky. Over the millennia, as our knowledge, science, and technology developed, the stories we told ourselves about the universe and our place in it developed as well. In The Night Sky, Richard Grossinger traces those developments, covering multiple aspects of humanity's complex relationship to the cosmos. Covering not only astronomy but also cosmology, cosmogony, astrology, and science fiction, he offers us a revelatory look at the firmament through his own telescope, fitted with an anthropological lens. Throughout his explorations, Grossinger continually reflects on the deeper meaning of our changing concepts about the universe and creation, offering insight into how each new discovery causes us to redefine the values, moralities, and aesthetics by which we live. He also calls into question the self-aggrandizing notion that humanity can and will conquer all, and injects our strident confidence in science with a healthy dose of humility and wonder. Filled with poetic observation and profound questions, The Night Sky is a brilliant reflection of humanity's relationship with the cosmos--a relationship fed by longing, doubt, and awe.

Book Shattered Dreams

Download or read book Shattered Dreams written by Colin Burgess and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2019-05-01 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shattered Dreams delves into the personal stories and recollections of several men and women who were in line to fly a specific or future space mission but lost that opportunity due to personal reasons, mission cancellations, or even tragedies. While some of the subjects are familiar names in spaceflight history, the accounts of others are told here for the first time. Colin Burgess features spaceflight candidates from the United States, Russia, Indonesia, Australia, and Great Britain. Shattered Dreams brings to new life such episodes and upheavals in spaceflight history as the saga of the three Apollo missions that were cancelled due to budgetary constraints and never flew; NASA astronaut Patricia Hilliard Robertson, who died of burn injuries after her airplane crashed before she had a chance to fly into space; and a female cosmonaut who might have become the first journalist to fly in space. Another NASA astronaut was preparing to fly an Apollo mission before he was diagnosed with a disqualifying illness. There is also the amazing story of the pilot who could have bailed out of his damaged aircraft but held off while heroically avoiding a populated area and later applied to NASA to fulfill his cherished dream of becoming an astronaut despite having lost both legs in the accident. These are the incredibly human stories of competitive realists fired with an unquenchable passion. Their accounts reveal in their own words—and those of others close to them—how their shared ambition would go awry through personal accidents, illness, the Challenger disaster, death, or other circumstances.

Book Professor Hein J J Wellens 33 Years of Cardiology and Arrhythmology

Download or read book Professor Hein J J Wellens 33 Years of Cardiology and Arrhythmology written by J. Smeets and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2000-03-31 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first invasive evaluation of cardiac arrhythmias in humans was performed in 1967 in Paris (Prof. P. Coumel) and Amsterdam (Prof. D. Durrer). This was the start of a rapid increase in our knowledge of the diagnosis, mechanism and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. In that same year Prof. Hein J.J. Wellens became cardiologist in the Wilhelmina Gasthuis in Amsterdam. Initially in Amsterdam (1967-1977) and later on in Maastricht (from 1977), he was the driving force for many breakthroughs in clinical cardiac electrophysiology. With an active interplay between the knowledge derived from the 12-lead electrocardiogram and the recordings made with invasive electrophysiology, he composed new ideas leading to major contributions in clinical cardiac electrophysiology and, more generally, in arrhythmology. He published over 650 scientific papers and 14 books, and had numerous functions within scientific boards of prestigious journals. In addition he trained more than 120 cardiologists in clinical cardiac electrophysiology. On the occasion of the congress `2000, Future of Arrhythmology: Lessons From the Past, Promises For Tomorrow', we highlight the scientific work of Prof. Hein J.J. Wellens. A selection of more than 60 articles over the whole time span has been selected. These articles are accompanied by comments from an expert, co-worker and/or former fellow in order to place the paper in a scientific time frame, including the relationship of the author with Prof. Hein J.J. Wellens.
