He leads an army of automatons. He can control lightning itself. And now, Rose Calder is his prisoner of war. All Rose has ever known is fighting. When the invading forces of the East Wind Dominion steals her friends, her family, and her home, she takes to the skies to battle for her freedom. For hope. When the war comes to a sudden end at the hands of commander Viktor Lang, she is certain she is about to die. When he discovers her impossible secret, she becomes a mystery he is desperate to solve, and that may be worse. But something about him draws her closer, no matter how wrong it may seem. The war may be over, but now she stands to lose much, much more. Her heart. _____________ Authors Note: This story contains sexual scenes that involve power exchange and some BDSM. "Steel Rose" is what I consider to be a villain romance. My male characters are often not very kind or gentle. This story has a HEA, but it may be a tough ride getting there. This story has mature themes and content.

Your wisdom is what has kept me going each and every day. For as long as I can remember, the many things that you have taught me are now helping me as a grown man. There were many times you both would pull me aside to show me love and remind me that I can do great things, because it's not where you came from but where you are going that makes the difference. You have instilled so many values, which I could never have gotten in the classroom. You were a true example of the values you taught. As much as it was hard, it kept me focused. Oftentimes, I would have to reach to find it.

Book Duquesne and the Rise of Steel Unionism

Download or read book Duquesne and the Rise of Steel Unionism written by James Douglas Rose and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not all workers' needs were served by the union. Focusing on the steel works at Duquesne, Pennsylvania, a linchpin of the old Carnegie Steel Company empire and then of U.S. Steel, James D. Rose demonstrates the pivotal role played by a nonunion form of employee representation usually dismissed as a flimsy front for management interests. The early New Deal set in motion two versions of workplace representation that battled for supremacy: company-sponsored employee representation plans (ERPs) and independent trade unionism. At Duquesne, the cause of the unskilled, hourly workers, mostly eastern and southern Europeans as well as blacks, was taken up by the union -- the Fort Dukane Lodge of the Amalgamated Association of Iron, Steel, and Tin Workers. For skilled tonnage workers and skilled tradesmen, mainly U.S.-born and of northern and western European extraction, ERPs offered a better solution. Initially little more than a crude antiunion device, ERPs matured from tools of the company into semi-independent, worker-led organizations. Isolated from the union movement through the mid-1930s, ERP representatives and management nonetheless created a sophisticated bargaining structure that represented the shop-floor interests of the mill's skilled workforce. Meanwhile, the Amalgamated gave way to the Steel Workers Organizing Committee, a professionalized and tightly organized affiliate of John L. Lewis's CIO that expended huge resources trying to gain companywide unionization. Even when the SWOC secured a collective bargaining agreement with U.S. Steel in 1937, however, the Union was still unable to sign up a majority of the workforce at Duquesne. A sophisticated study of the forces that shaped and responded to workers' interests, Duquesne and the Rise of Steel Unionism confirms that what people did on the shop floor was as critical to the course of steel unionism as were corporate decision making and shifts in government policy.

Book The History of Stainless Steel

Download or read book The History of Stainless Steel written by Harold M. Cobb and published by ASM International. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The History of Stainless Steel provides a fascinating glimpse into a vital material that we may take for granted today. Stainless steel, called "the miracle metal" and "the crowning achievement of metallurgy" by the prominent metallurgist Carl Zapffe, is a material marvel with an equally fascinating history of people, places, and technology. As stainless steel nears the hundredth anniversary of its discovery, The History of Stainless Steel by Harold Cobb is a fitting perspective on a vital material of our modern life. Aptly called the miracle metal by the renowned metallurgist Carl Zapffe, stainless steel is not only a metallurgical marvel, but its history provides an equally fascinating story of curiosity, competitive persistence, and entrepreneurial spirit. The History of Stainless Steel is the world's first book that captures the unfolding excitement and innovations of stainless steel pioneers and entrepreneurs. Many new insights are given into the work of famous pioneers like Harry Brearley, Elwood Haynes, and Benno Strauss, including significant technical contributions of lesser known figures like William Krivsky. This fascinating history of stainless steel exemplifies the great push of progress in the 20th Century. From the stainless steel cutlery of Brearley in 1913, stainless steel burst on the modern scene in many tangible ways. Excerpted text by William Van Alen, architect of the Chrysler Building, describes the early architectural use of stainless steel. Another historic application of stainless steel is the revolution in rail travel by the Edward G. Budd Company, which built the first light-weight stainless steel passenger trains--with an astounding 90% reduction in fuel costs. This remains recognized today as one of the technological marvels of the modern world. Harold Cobb, a metallurgist who has spent much of his career in the stainless steel industry, uncovers many interesting stories and insights, including a special perspective on the prominent role of stainless steel in the activities of emerging technical societies such as the American Society for Metals and the American Society for Testing and Materials. Amply illustrated and with a 78-page timeline, this publication truly evokes the inspirations created by and from stainless steel.
