Book An Open Systems Approach to Quantum Optics

Download or read book An Open Systems Approach to Quantum Optics written by Howard Carmichael and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-02-17 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains ten lectures presented in the series ULB Lectures in Nonlinear Optics at the Universite Libre de Bruxelles during the period October 28 to November 4, 1991. A large part of the first six lectures is taken from material prepared for a book of somewhat larger scope which will be published,by Springer under the title Quantum Statistical Methods in Quantum Optics. The principal reason for the early publication of the present volume concerns the material contained in the last four lectures. Here I have put together, in a more or less systematic way, some ideas about the use of stochastic wavefunctions in the theory of open quantum optical systems. These ideas were developed with the help of two of my students, Murray Wolinsky and Liguang Tian, over a period of approximately two years. They are built on a foundation laid down in a paper written with Surendra Singh, Reeta Vyas, and Perry Rice on waiting-time distributions and wavefunction collapse in resonance fluorescence [Phys. Rev. A, 39, 1200 (1989)]. The ULB lecture notes contain my first serious atte~pt to give a complete account of the ideas and their potential applications. I am grateful to Professor Paul Mandel who, through his invitation to give the lectures, stimulated me to organize something useful out of work that may, otherwise, have waited considerably longer to be brought together.

Book Scaling Limits in Statistical Mechanics and Microstructures in Continuum Mechanics

Download or read book Scaling Limits in Statistical Mechanics and Microstructures in Continuum Mechanics written by Errico Presutti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-11-01 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collective behavior in systems with many components, blow-ups with emergence of microstructures are proofs of the double, continuum and atomistic, nature of macroscopic systems, an issue which has always intrigued scientists and philosophers. Modern technologies have made the question more actual and concrete with recent, remarkable progresses also from a mathematical point of view. The book focuses on the links connecting statistical and continuum mechanics and, starting from elementary introductions to both theories, it leads to actual research themes. Mathematical techniques and methods from probability, calculus of variations and PDE are discussed at length.

Book Entangled State Representations in Quantum Optics

Download or read book Entangled State Representations in Quantum Optics written by Xiang-Guo Meng and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-07-17 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the applications of continuous-variable entangled state representations in the research areas of quantum optics via the integration method within an ordered product of operators (IWOP). As a way to develop the Dirac’s symbolic method, the IWOP method has made the integration of non-commutative operators possible by arranging non-commutable operators within an ordered product symbol. It not only deals with many existent quantum optics problems but also explores new research fields. The book also establishes a theoretical framework for solving important quantum optics subjects by taking full advantage of the entangled state representations. With original methods and detailed descriptions, the book is suitable for researchers, instructors, and students interested in quantum mechanics, quantum optics, and quantum information science.

Book Statistical Structure of Quantum Theory

Book excerpt: New ideas on the mathematical foundations of quantum mechanics, related to the theory of quantum measurement, as well as the emergence of quantum optics, quantum electronics and optical communications have shown that the statistical structure of quantum mechanics deserves special investigation. In the meantime it has become a mature subject. In this book, the author, himself a leading researcher in this field, surveys the basic principles and results of the theory, concentrating on mathematically precise formulations. Special attention is given to the measurement dynamics. The presentation is pragmatic, concentrating on the ideas and their motivation. For detailed proofs, the readers, researchers and graduate students, are referred to the extensively documented literature.
