Book excerpt: Standing Tall: Challenges of Faith, Hope, and Love This story and/or narrative depicts the life of a young African American couple with twelve children who supported its self by sharecropping and whatever means possible to survive. The contents of this offering is based on the lives of Theodore Hayden, Sr. and Christine Massey Hayden. Beginning in the late eighteen hundreds it spans well into the latter part of the twentieth century. Each chapter describe events or circumstances that had a direct impact upon the making and survival of this family revealing it struggles and triumphs. It paints a loving mother possessing an unwavering faith and tenacity who propelled her family to make remarkable strides in a no win situation. The portrayal of family life and its unselfish rendering of self for the sake of family is uncanny. The family unit is strong and its members accept their responsibilities with pleasure. The opening of the story begins with the birth of John (Theodore) and the familys subsequent escape from slavery. It moves swiftly to the courtship and marriage of John and Sarah and the development of their family consisting of seven boys and five girls. The remaining of the story deals with the familys relationship to itself and varying aspects of other influences that affected the familys life and survival. The story ends with the death of Sarah and the familys struggle to try to begin again. Sarah had given her all to family and without her was unbearable.
Download or read book Standing Tall written by Nkere K. Ebube and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-10 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is not simply a narrative about the struggles that we go through in life, geared towards making the reader feel good or evoke a sense of self-pity. It is an inspirational book based strictly on sound biblical principles. The underlying message is that trial in the life of a Christian is not an extraordinary event, but that God does extraordinary things in our lives through it, particularly as we get His attention through our obedience, humility, steadfast faith and unwavering belief in His promises. This book contains numerous biblical references to strengthen you, whether you are currently experiencing a storm, in a period of calm or just stepping into the chaos. God can meet you at any point in your life. He is the only one who is capable of changing your circumstances or turning any broken vessel into a masterpiece for His glory. You do not need to explain to Him where you are for He already knows. Christ is our perfect intercessor. He has cleansed our ugly past with His blood, and our salvation is secure. There is no type of trial that is new before the Lord. He would make a way of escape according to His will. Seek His face diligently in prayer, and do not let the circumstances of life overwhelm you. Remain strong in your faith, and continue to stand by His promises. Our Lord is a faithful God. He would grant you peace and strength in your adversity.

Download or read book Bonshe written by Coral Anika Theill and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-03-29 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just when you thought you knew what was going on in your community, here comes a story that just may shatter the security of your American Dream. This is a story about abuse, survival, false religion and dubious court systems in a state that may be advanced on some levels, but sometimes proves to be a miserable failure in terms of equity and fairness and conventional thinking. – Tim King, Editor/Salem-News.com, War Correspondent, Author, “BETRAYAL: Toxic Exposure of U.S. Marines, Murder and Cover-Up” BONSHEÁ pierces through the darkness that hides the legal system’s routine abuse of mothers and children. It is a work of immense courage, a true tale of heartbreak and salvation. Not a single particle of the wisdom Coral shares misses the mark. - Maureen T. Hannah, Ph.D., Chair, Battered Mother’s Custody Conference, Albany, New York BONSHEÁ illustrates the degree to which the legal system can also be used as a vehicle to further perpetuate abuse even after the victim has chosen to take a stand against the abuse. – John Haroldson, District Attorney, Benton County District Attorney’s Office, Corvallis, Oregon Coral Theill’s BONSHEÁ is intense in its effort to “open the doors” behind which many domestic violence perpetrators have stood for so long in the name of “privacy.” At every level, family and friends, key people in her community, the health care system, the legal and judicial system, and the culture which socializes us all, she met with adversity and re-victimization. In the telling of her recovery, which is truly remarkable given her circumstances, the reader gets a vivid sense of the indominability of her spirit and light. I recommend this book for health care providers, those in the criminal justice system, and volunteers or helpers of any kind to get insights and clarity about the complex dynamics of domestic violence and its toxic effects to individuals and society---and what needs to be done to eradicate this pandemic problem.” – Barbara A. Download or read book Standing Tall While Facing the Trials That Come Into Your Life written by Job Titus Cannon and published by Author House. This book was released on 2006-07-11 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “From the Book of Job to the Life of Job Titus Cannon: Standing Tall While Facing the Trials That Come Into Your Life,” written by Job Titus Cannon, is an inspiring faith based work which shares with the reader the personal challenges and struggles the author and many Christians encounter in everyday life while eventually prospering. Furthermore, this book encourages Christian believers that faith and a love for God can allow you (and any other believer) to overcome struggles that may come into your everyday life. The Book of Job is one of the truly amazing stories in the Holy Bible. It is a great place to find encouragement when experiencing difficulties and dilemmas. We all face personal problems in our lives. But more importantly, the Book of Job also gives us an example of how to handle great challenges in our lives. Job (the Bible patriarch) is wealthy, successful, and highly respected. He is a man of God and a man of family. But life happens and calamity comes. Everything that Job has and everything that he knows is destroyed. Job’s faith is challenged. As a result of Job’s challenges, he is forced to reevaluate everything he thought he was. He realized that it was easy to be faithful and strong when everything was going well, but when he was stripped of everything...... Job never cursed God, but he questioned God. In the end, Job realized that suffering is a part of the Christian walk, and eventually he was not only restored of all he lost, but the Holy Bible tells that he received twice as much as he had before. In “From the Book of Job to the Life of Job Titus Cannon: Standing Tall While Facing the Trials that Come into Your Life”, each chapter begins with thought provoking questions. These questions encourage the reader to look to the Holy Bible while using the life of Job as a reference, along with interspersing Job Titus Cannon’s own experiences. Among the issues the author confronts are: God’s ability to make an example out of one’s life, our ability to react positively to life’s negative moments, can a person ever be ready to handle really bad occurrences?, do we have an effective support staff of loving friends and family to surround us in our time of need?, our attitude towards the response of God in our time of need, and our ability to properly handle the bestowed blessings following the turbulent storm. This book gives examples of how the bible patriarch Job handled his numerous storms. This book also gives perspective and scriptural references to help the modern day Christian overcome the many trials that they may face. Job Titus Cannon’s ability to convey his own experiences along with relating them to biblical teachings further enhances the appeal of the book. This book is not only personable but practical because we all struggle with standing tall while facing trials. Book excerpt: A leader must stand tall enough for his followers to find him. "As the God-appointed captain of his family," says Steve Farrar, "a man faces the challenge of spying out the social territory, marking danger zones, and taking stands to protect those in his charge." It's an active leadership role -- and Farrar's been training men to succeed in it for over ten years. In this paperback rerelease of his popular Standing Tall, the men's ministries leader "walks tall" through America -- observing politics, abortion, the gay movement, media trends, and the loss of our "moral boundaries." Farrar offers men sure biblical foundations on which to stand for faith-based living -- closing with "Seven Ways to Help Your Kids Stand Tall." Download or read book Why I Stand written by Jonathan Isaac and published by DW Books. This book was released on 2022-05-17 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Facing public criticism, peer hostility, and widespread disapproval, would you compromise your principles to blend in with the crowd, or would you stand for what you believe? On July 31, 2020, the Orlando Magic starting forward Jonathan Isaac was the lone NBA player not to kneel for the national anthem amid a league-wide demonstration in support of Black Lives Matter. Standing alone, knowing the scrutiny to come, Jonathan had a peace he at one time never could have imagined possible. In Why I Stand, Jonathan shares the journey of how—through a series of divine connections and a willingness to follow Christ—his fear and insecurity-driven life was transformed into one of confidence and purpose. From his childhood in the Bronx to his high school years in Florida, from rail-skinny freshman at FSU to top draft pick in the NBA, Jonathan uses his life story to illuminate the freedom and peace found in the love of Jesus Christ. More than the story of an NBA player’s transformation from man on the court to man of God, Why I Stand is a testament to His love, power, and grace that extends to us all. This book is a discovery that no matter your level of confidence today, God’s strength will develop in your weakness. That courage is found in trusting that God is greater than your fears. As Jonathan takes you through the experiences that drove his decisions, he offers insight and inspiration to help you to grow to a point where standing alone is better than not standing at all.

Having lived in the foster care system for ten years, he has been a ward of the state, of his foster family, of those who would make decisions for him. And so the arrival of his 18th birthday must be a symbol of freedom--and yet--it is only the beginning… Forced out by those who once gave him shelter, Christian steps into a brand new life in more ways than one. His life hasn’t just changed--he has. Abilities of great power and potential flood him with fear and a growing sense of dread for things to come. Suddenly a captive of the military and under the control of Dr. Rodriguez, a sinister man with a plan for Christian, life becomes bleak and treacherous for the young man who wishes harm to none. With Christian under the Doctor’s control, there is no telling what destruction and death will rain down on all those whom Christian meets, befriends, fears, and even loves. For obedience does not rise from complicity--and Christian would rather die than submit to the whims of evil men.
