Book Materials Degradation and Its Control by Surface Engineering

Download or read book Materials Degradation and Its Control by Surface Engineering written by Andrew W. Batchelor and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2011 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a general holistic view of materials degradation without undue emphasis on aqueous corrosion with the neglect of other important topics such as liquid metal corrosion. Discussion of materials degradation is balanced by detailed description and evaluation of surface engineering as a means of managing materials degradation. Thus, the trainee engineer is presented with a comprehensive view of the problem rather than just a part of the problem. The control or management of materials degradation is not only discussed in scientific terms, but the economics or financial aspects of materials degradation and surface engineering is also discussed in detail with the help of analytical models.

Book Metallized and Magnetic Polymers

Download or read book Metallized and Magnetic Polymers written by Johannes Karl Fink and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-02-29 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the chemistry of metallized and magnetic polymers, as well as the special applications of these materials. After an introductory section on the general aspects of the field, the types and uses of these polymers are detailed, followed by an overview of the testing methods. The book is divided equally into two parts – metallized polymers and magnetic polymers – and both parts follow the same structure: All methods of fabrication Properties and methods of measurement including standard test methods and interface properties Fields of applications Environmental issues including recycling and biodegradable polymers

Book Roll to Roll Vacuum Deposition of Barrier Coatings

Download or read book Roll to Roll Vacuum Deposition of Barrier Coatings written by Charles A. Bishop and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-12-17 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A practical, working guide to producing high quality barrier coatings Roll-to-Roll Vacuum Deposition of Barrier Coatings is a practical guide, providing the reader with basic information to help them understand what is necessary in order to produce a good barrier coated web or to improve the quality of an existing barrier product. Keeping mathematics to a minimum, the terminology and science is introduced, and includes descriptions about barrier testing methods and the vacuum deposition process. The book looks at the whole process from the source materials through to the post deposition handling of the coated material. This holistic view of the vacuum coating process provides a description of the common sources of defects and includes the possible methods of limiting these defects. This enables readers to decide where their development efforts and money can best be used to improve the barrier performance of their own process or materials. Roll-to-Roll Vacuum Deposition of Barrier Coatings: Specifies the benefits and problems of producing vacuum deposited barrier coatings Explains why products designed by system operators might vary and how they can improve the quality and reproducibility of their products Describes the basic deposition process, limitations that may arise, and how they may be overcome Details why current barrier materials have limited performance and why it is so difficult and expensive to make improvements or to produce ultra barrier materials. This practical reference is invaluable to all readers using the roll-to-roll vacuum coating technology, including R&D scientists and engineers (process; product and process design), operators, technicians, line managers involved in producing vacuum deposited barrier coatings. It also serves the food packaging and medical packaging industries, along with any industry using Organic Light Emitting Devices (OLEDs) such as electronics, solar energy and photovoltaics (PVs), thin film battery as well as vacuum insulation panels.

Book X Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy for Laboratory Applications

Book excerpt: Provides comprehensive coverage on using X-ray fluorescence for laboratory applications This book focuses on the practical aspects of X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy and discusses the requirements for a successful sample analysis, such as sample preparation, measurement techniques and calibration, as well as the quality of the analysis results. X-Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy for Laboratory Applications begins with a short overview of the physical fundamentals of the generation of X-rays and their interaction with the sample material, followed by a presentation of the different methods of sample preparation in dependence on the quality of the source material and the objective of the measurement. After a short description of the different available equipment types and their respective performance, the book provides in-depth information on the choice of the optimal measurement conditions and the processing of the measurement results. It covers instrument types for XRF; acquisition and evaluation of X-Ray spectra; analytical errors; analysis of homogeneous materials, powders, and liquids; special applications of XRF; process control and automation. An important resource for the analytical chemist, providing concrete guidelines and support for everyday analyses Focuses on daily laboratory work with commercially available devices Offers a unique compilation of knowledge and best practices from equipment manufacturers and users Covers the entire work process: sample preparation, the actual measurement, data processing, assessment of uncertainty, and accuracy of the obtained results X-Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy for Laboratory Applications appeals to analytical chemists, analytical laboratories, materials scientists, environmental chemists, chemical engineers, biotechnologists, and pharma engineers.

Book Technical Overview on Mechanical and Physical Property Measurements on Coatings

Download or read book Technical Overview on Mechanical and Physical Property Measurements on Coatings written by GA. Di Bari and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurement of the mechanical and physical properties of metallic and inorganic coatings presents difficulties. The difficulties arise because coatings are often thin, and they are by definition attached to substrates. The expediency of separating the coating from its substrate to measure certain characteristics may be resorted to. Although this technique may provide useful information, a doubt may linger as to whether the coatings on a particular batch of production parts have identical properties as those measured on separately prepared specimens. The coating may present handling problems even when it is detached if it is brittle and extemely thin. The properties may be dependent on thickness; studying the properties of thick coatings to deduce the properties of thinner ones may not be worthwhile.
