Book Catalytic Aerobic Oxidations

Download or read book Catalytic Aerobic Oxidations written by Esteban Mejía and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2020-07-14 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oxidation reactions are an important chemical transformation in both academia and industry. Among the major advances in the field has been the development of catalytic processes, which are not only selective and efficient, but also allow the replacement of common stoichiometric oxidants with molecular oxygen, ideally from air at atmospheric pressure. This results in processes with higher atom efficiency, where water is the only side product in line with the principles of green chemistry. Focusing on the use of molecular oxygen as the terminal oxidant, this book covers recent advances in both heterogeneous and homogeneous systems, with and without metals and on the “taming” of the highly reactive oxygen gas by use of micro-flow reactors and membranes. A useful reference for industrial and academic chemists working on oxidation processes, as well as green chemists.

Book Free Radicals in Chemistry and Biology

Download or read book Free Radicals in Chemistry and Biology written by Milan Lazar and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1989-03-31 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elementary radical reactions are described in terms of fundamental knowledge of organic chemistry and chemical physics in this valuable reference text. The complex radical processes of nonchain and chain mechanisms, such as dimerization, alkylation, polymerization, telomerization, halogenation pyrolysis, oxidation and combustion, are complemented by reactions in chemical lasers and in the cosmos, as well as by reactions in biological objects under normal or pathological metabolism. The text also provides the synthesis of facts from various fields of research and involves mechanisms where free radicals appear either as main or side intermediates in one of the several alternatives of the reaction pathway. Highlights include 38 tables and 39 figures.

Book Free Radicals in Biology and Environment

Download or read book Free Radicals in Biology and Environment written by F. Minisci and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1997-03-31 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our understanding of the quantitative aspects of free radical chemistry and the involvement of radicals in such areas as biology, medicine, the environment, etc., has developed spectacularly over recent years, yet the various topics are commonly discussed separately, in specific meetings and specialised publications. Free Radicals in Biology and Environment draws together two important areas of free radical chemistry, using as a bridge the fundamental physical chemistry of free radicals (spectroscopic detection of free radicals, evaluation of absolute rate constants, elucidation of mechanisms of free radical reactions and catalysis, photochemical and radiation processes, etc.). The most relevant topics covered are the EPR detection of radicals in biochemical systems and in pollutant formation and degradation, oxidation processes in biology and in the troposphere, radiation and induced damage, and atmospheric pollutants arising from incomplete combustion. Also covered are the chemistry and biochemistry of nitric oxide and peroxynitrite, the chemistry and biochemistry of DNA radicals, the role of radicals in myeloperoxidase, lignineperoxidase, radicals and cardiovascular injury, radiation and the fragmentation of cells and tissues.

Book Radical Polymerization

Download or read book Radical Polymerization written by Michael Buback and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2007-06-27 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume from the successful Macromolecular Symposia series presents the contributions from the IUPAC-sponsored International Symposium on "Radical Polymerization: Kinetics and Mechanism", held in Il Ciocco, Italy, in September, 2006. This was the fourth within the series of so-called SML conferences, which are the major scientific forum for addressing kinetic and mechanistic aspects of free-radical polymerization and controlled radical polymerization. SML IV again marked an important step forward toward the better understanding of the kinetics and mechanism of radical polymerization, which is extremely relevant for both conventional and controlled radical polymerization and for people in academia as well as in industry. Here, top international authors, such as K. Matyjaszewski, T. P. Davis and T. Fukuda, present their latest research. The five major themes covered were: Fundamentals of free-radical polymerization, heterogeneous polymerization, controlled radical polymerization, polymer reaction engineering, and polymer characterization.

Book Free Nitroxyl Radicals

    Book Details:
  • Author : E. Rozantsev
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-12-14
  • ISBN : 147570710X
  • Pages : 257 pages

Download or read book Free Nitroxyl Radicals written by E. Rozantsev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-14 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the short time since the first nitroxyl radical was obtained in 1959, a new branch of chemical science has arisen and taken shape-the chemistry of stable nitroxyl radicals. The present book was written by E. G. Rozantsev, one of the pioneers in this field and a prominent specialist on stable radicals at the Division of Chemical and Biological Processes of the Institute of Chemical Physics, Academy of Sciences of the USSR. His numerous papers have contributed greatly to the present situation, wherein nitroxyl radicals have acquired unusually wide popularity, including the fields of biology, medicine, chemis try, physics, biophysics, and instrument construction. A clear illustration of the astonishingly vigorous development of this new field of chemistry can be given by the enormous flow of information on the synthesis and use of nitroxyl radicals. There is no doubt that this monograph, which in part generalizes the results of many workers studying these radicals, will be received with interest by specialists working in this field. The author has not attempted to give an exhaustive account of the material. His aim is to introduce the reader to this new field and to show the wide possibilities for using radicals in scientific experiment. The voluminous bibliography, including many papers by the author himself which may not be well enough known to the American reader, will undoubtedly contribute to the usefulness of the monograph.

Book Free Radicals in Diagnostic Medicine

Download or read book Free Radicals in Diagnostic Medicine written by Donald Armstrong and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An International Syaposiua on Free Radicals in Diagnostic Medicine was co-sponsored by the state University of New York at Buffalo, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, and the Upstate NY Section of the American Association of Clinical Chemistry. The theme was "A Systems Approach To Laboratory Technology, Clinical Correlations And Antioxidant Therapy." The symposium was held on October 7-8, 1993 at the Hyatt Hotel and on October 9 at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, New York. This proceedings volume contains chapters from platform presentations, poster sessions and from invited special lectures in the areas of basic science, clinical applications and efficacy of treatment. A Special Lecture on the relevance of free radical analysis to clinical medicine was presented by Professor Kunio Yagi of Japan. The Yagi procedure to measure thiobarbituric acid (TBA) reaction reflects the amount of reactive substances, lipid peroxides and aldehydes, in the sample. For example, normal subjects will have less than 4 nmol/ml of serum lipid peroxides, while a person with diabetes generally has equal or greater than 5.0 and a diabetic person with vascular complications often exceeds 7.5 nmol/ml. Serum TBA is a clinically important measure that relates to aging, gender and estrogen as an antioxidant, in the prognosis for vascular disorders, and in pathological conditions relative to the amount of lipid peroxidation. The BASIC SCIENCES portion of the program examined: "Mechanisms of Action, Pathophysiology and Laboratory Tests" in six presentations.
