Book Stable Parametric Programming

Download or read book Stable Parametric Programming written by S. Zlobec and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimality and stability are two important notions in applied mathematics. This book is a study of these notions and their relationship in linear and convex parametric programming models. It begins with a survey of basic optimality conditions in nonlinear programming. Then new results in convex programming, using LFS functions, for single-objective, multi-objective, differentiable and non-smooth programs are introduced. Parametric programming models are studied using basic tools of point-to-set topology. Stability of the models is introduced, essentially, as continuity of the feasible set of decision variables under continuous perturbations of the parameters. Perturbations that preserve this continuity are regions of stability. It is shown how these regions can be identified. The main results on stability are characterizations of locally and globally optimal parameters for stable and also for unstable perturbations. The results are straightened for linear models and bi-level programs. Some of the results are extended to abstract spaces after considering parameters as `controls'. Illustrations from diverse fields, such as data envelopment analysis, management, von Stackelberg games of market economy, and navigation problems are given and several case studies are solved by finding optimal parameters. The book has been written in an analytic spirit. Many results appear here for the first time in book form. Audience: The book is written at the level of a first-year graduate course in optimization for students with varied backgrounds interested in modeling of real-life problems. It is expected that the reader has been exposed to a prior elementary course in optimization, such as linear or non-linear programming. The last section of the book requires some knowledge of functional analysis.

Book Uncertainty aware Integration of Control with Process Operations and Multi parametric Programming Under Global Uncertainty

Download or read book Uncertainty aware Integration of Control with Process Operations and Multi parametric Programming Under Global Uncertainty written by Vassilis M. Charitopoulos and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-05 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces models and methodologies that can be employed towards making the Industry 4.0 vision a reality within the process industries, and at the same time investigates the impact of uncertainties in such highly integrated settings. Advances in computing power along with the widespread availability of data have led process industries to consider a new paradigm for automated and more efficient operations. The book presents a theoretically proven optimal solution to multi-parametric linear and mixed-integer linear programs and efficient solutions to problems such as process scheduling and design under global uncertainty. It also proposes a systematic framework for the uncertainty-aware integration of planning, scheduling and control, based on the judicious coupling of reactive and proactive methods. Using these developments, the book demonstrates how the integration of different decision-making layers and their simultaneous optimisation can enhance industrial process operations and their economic resilience in the face of uncertainty.

Book Aeroballistic Evaluation and Computer Stability Analysis of the U S Navy 20 millimeter General Purpose Projectile

Download or read book Aeroballistic Evaluation and Computer Stability Analysis of the U S Navy 20 millimeter General Purpose Projectile written by Frank J. Regan and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents the results of ballistics range and wind-tunnel measurements of the static force and moment and the pitch-damping, roll-damping and Magnus moments for a General Purpose 20-Millimeter Projectile. Data are presented for a Smooth and Basic configuration. These aerodynamic data are used in a special digital computer program to rapidly assess the stability of the projectiles over various mission profiles. The normal-force and pitching-moment derivatives are evaluated, theoretically, by Wood's method and compared with the measurements.

Book Robustness of Dynamic Systems with Parameter Uncertainties

Download or read book Robustness of Dynamic Systems with Parameter Uncertainties written by Mohamed Mansour and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robust Control is one of the fastest growing and promising areas of research today. In many practical systems there exist uncertainties which have to be considered in the analysis and design of control systems. In the last decade methods were developed for dealing with dynamic systems with unstructured uncertainties such as HOO_ and £I-optimal control. For systems with parameter uncertainties, the seminal paper of V. L. Kharitonov has triggered a large amount of very promising research. An international workshop dealing with all aspects of robust control was successfully organized by S. P. Bhattacharyya and L. H. Keel in San Antonio, Texas, USA in March 1991. We organized the second international workshop in this area in Ascona, Switzer land in April 1992. However, this second workshop was restricted to robust control of dynamic systems with parameter uncertainties with the objective to concentrate on some aspects of robust control. This book contains a collection of papers presented at the International Workshop on Robust Control held at the Centro Stefano Franscini, Monte Verita, Ascona, Switzer land on April 12-17, 1992 as well as a list of open problems presented during a dis cussion session at the workshop. Thirtyfive leading researchers from all over the world working in the area of robust control of dynamic systems with parameter uncertainties were invited to present their recent results and to discuss with their colleagues the recent advances in this field.

Book Applied Mathematics and Parallel Computing

Download or read book Applied Mathematics and Parallel Computing written by Herbert Fischer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors of this Festschrift prepared these papers to honour and express their friendship to Klaus Ritter on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday. Be cause of Ritter's many friends and his international reputation among math ematicians, finding contributors was easy. In fact, constraints on the size of the book required us to limit the number of papers. Klaus Ritter has done important work in a variety of areas, especially in var ious applications of linear and nonlinear optimization and also in connection with statistics and parallel computing. For the latter we have to mention Rit ter's development of transputer workstation hardware. The wide scope of his research is reflected by the breadth of the contributions in this Festschrift. After several years of scientific research in the U.S., Klaus Ritter was ap pointed as full professor at the University of Stuttgart. Since then, his name has become inextricably connected with the regularly scheduled conferences on optimization in Oberwolfach. In 1981 he became full professor of Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics at the Technical University of Mu nich. In addition to his university teaching duties, he has made the activity of applying mathematical methods to problems of industry to be centrally important.
