Book Stability of Operators and Operator Semigroups

Download or read book Stability of Operators and Operator Semigroups written by Tanja Eisner and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2019-10-01 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The asymptotic behaviour, in particular "stability" in some sense, is studied systematically for discrete and for continuous linear dynamical systems on Banach spaces. Of particular concern is convergence to an equilibrium with respect to various topologies. Parallels and differences between the discrete and the continuous situation are emphasised.

Book Semigroups of Operators Theory and Applications

Download or read book Semigroups of Operators Theory and Applications written by A.V. Balakrishnan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2000-08 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These Proceedings comprise the bulk of the papers presented at the Inter national Conference on Semigroups of Opemtors: Theory and Contro~ held 14-18 December 1998, Newport Beach, California, U.S.A. The intent of the Conference was to highlight recent advances in the the ory of Semigroups of Operators which provides the abstract framework for the time-domain solutions of time-invariant boundary-value/initial-value problems of partial differential equations. There is of course a firewall between the ab stract theory and the applications and one of the Conference aims was to bring together both in the hope that it may be of value to both communities. In these days when all scientific activity is judged by its value on "dot com" it is not surprising that mathematical analysis that holds no promise of an immediate commercial product-line, or even a software tool-box, is not high in research priority. We are particularly pleased therefore that the National Science Foundation provided generous financial support without which this Conference would have been impossible to organize. Our special thanks to Dr. Kishan Baheti, Program Manager.

Book The Asymptotic Behaviour of Semigroups of Linear Operators

Download or read book The Asymptotic Behaviour of Semigroups of Linear Operators written by Jan van Neerven and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1996-07-30 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a systematic account of the theory of asymptotic behaviour of semigroups of linear operators acting in a Banach space. The focus is on the relationship between asymptotic behaviour of the semigroup and spectral properties of its infinitesimal generator. The most recent developments in the field are included, such as the Arendt-Batty-Lyubich-Vu theorem, the spectral mapp- ing theorem of Latushkin and Montgomery-Smith, Weis's theorem on stability of positive semigroup in Lp-spaces, the stability theorem for semigroups whose resolvent is bounded in a half-plane, and a systematic theory of individual stability. Addressed to researchers and graduate students with interest in the fields of operator semigroups and evolution equations, this book is self-contained and provides complete proofs.

Book Semigroups of Operators Theory and Applications

Download or read book Semigroups of Operators Theory and Applications written by Jacek Banasiak and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many results, both from semi group theory itself and from the applied sciences, are phrased in discipline-specific languages and hence are hardly known to a broader community. This volume contains a selection of lectures presented at a conference that was organised as a forum for all mathematicians using semi group theory to learn what is happening outside their own field of research. The collection will help to establish a number of new links between various sub-disciplines of semigroup theory, stochastic processes, differential equations and the applied fields. The theory of semigroups of operators is a well-developed branch of functional analysis. Its foundations were laid at the beginning of the 20th century, while the fundamental generation theorem of Hille and Yosida dates back to the forties. The theory was, from the very beginning, designed as a universal language for partial differential equations and stochastic processes, but at the same time it started to live as an independent branch of operator theory. Nowadays, it still has the same distinctive flavour: it develops rapidly by posing new ‘internal’ questions and in answering them, discovering new methods that can be used in applications. On the other hand, it is influenced by questions from PDEs and stochastic processes as well as from applied sciences such as mathematical biology and optimal control, and thus it continually gathers a new momentum. Researchers and postgraduate students working in operator theory, partial differential equations, probability and stochastic processes, analytical methods in biology and other natural sciences, optimization and optimal control will find this volume useful.

Book The Adjoint of a Semigroup of Linear Operators

Download or read book The Adjoint of a Semigroup of Linear Operators written by Jan van Neerven and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph provides a systematic treatment of the abstract theory of adjoint semigroups. After presenting the basic elementary results, the following topics are treated in detail: The sigma (X, X )-topology, -reflexivity, the Favard class, Hille-Yosida operators, interpolation and extrapolation, weak -continuous semigroups, the codimension of X in X , adjoint semigroups and the Radon-Nikodym property, tensor products of semigroups and duality, positive semigroups and multiplication semigroups. The major part of the material is reasonably self-contained and is accessible to anyone with basic knowledge of semi- group theory and Banach space theory. Most of the results are proved in detail. The book is addressed primarily to researchers working in semigroup theory, but in view of the "Banach space theory" flavour of many of the results, it will also be of interest to Banach space geometers and operator theorists.

Book Semigroups of Operators and Spectral Theory

Download or read book Semigroups of Operators and Spectral Theory written by S Kantorovitz and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-06-19 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents some aspects of the theory of semigroups of operators, mostly from the point of view of its interaction withspectral theory. In order to make it self-contained, a concise description of the basic theory of semigroups, with complete proofs, is included in Part I. Some of the author's recent results, such as the construction of the Hille-Yosida space for general operators, the semi-simplicity manifold, and a Taylor formula for semigroups as functions of their generator, are also included in Part I. Part II describes recent generalizations (most of them in bookform for the first time), including pre-semigroups, semi-simplicity manifolds in situations more general than that considered in Part I, semigroups of unbounded symmetric operators, and an analogous result on "local cosine families" and semi-analytic vectors. It is hoped that this book will inspire more research in this field. This book will be of particular interest to graduate students and researchers working operator theory and its applications.

Book Some Results on Operator Semigroups and Evolution Problems

Download or read book Some Results on Operator Semigroups and Evolution Problems written by Andr S Ser Ny and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-03 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis we address certain questions arising in the functional analytic study of dynamical systems and differential equations. First, we discuss the operator theoretic counterparts of the central ergodic theoretical notions of strong and weak mixing. These concepts correspond to particular types of asymptotic behaviour of operator semigroups in the weak operator topology. In particular, we carry over classical theorems of Halmos and Rohlin for measure preserving transformations to the Hilbert space operator setting. Further, we illustrate operator semigroup methods and results on a class of telegraph systems with various boundary conditions. We study both linear and nonlinear boundary value problems. The stability of linear telegraph systems is discussed by applying theorems from the previous chapters. For the existence of solutions, we are particularly interested in time-dependent boundary conditions, since this case has little been investigated so far.

Book Positive Operator Semigroups

Download or read book Positive Operator Semigroups written by András Bátkai and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2017-02-13 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a gentle but up-to-date introduction into the theory of operator semigroups (or linear dynamical systems), which can be used with great success to describe the dynamics of complicated phenomena arising in many applications. Positivity is a property which naturally appears in physical, chemical, biological or economic processes. It adds a beautiful and far reaching mathematical structure to the dynamical systems and operators describing these processes. In the first part, the finite dimensional theory in a coordinate-free way is developed, which is difficult to find in literature. This is a good opportunity to present the main ideas of the Perron-Frobenius theory in a way which can be used in the infinite dimensional situation. Applications to graph matrices, age structured population models and economic models are discussed. The infinite dimensional theory of positive operator semigroups with their spectral and asymptotic theory is developed in the second part. Recent applications illustrate the theory, like population equations, neutron transport theory, delay equations or flows in networks. Each chapter is accompanied by a large set of exercises. An up-to-date bibliography and a detailed subject index help the interested reader. The book is intended primarily for graduate and master students. The finite dimensional part, however, can be followed by an advanced bachelor with a solid knowledge of linear algebra and calculus.
