Book The Asymptotic Behaviour of Semigroups of Linear Operators

Download or read book The Asymptotic Behaviour of Semigroups of Linear Operators written by Jan van Neerven and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a systematic account of the theory of asymptotic behaviour of semigroups of linear operators acting in a Banach space. The focus is on the relationship between asymptotic behaviour of the semigroup and spectral properties of its infinitesimal generator. The most recent developments in the field are included, such as the Arendt-Batty-Lyubich-Vu theorem, the spectral mapp- ing theorem of Latushkin and Montgomery-Smith, Weis's theorem on stability of positive semigroup in Lp-spaces, the stability theorem for semigroups whose resolvent is bounded in a half-plane, and a systematic theory of individual stability. Addressed to researchers and graduate students with interest in the fields of operator semigroups and evolution equations, this book is self-contained and provides complete proofs.

Book Semigroups of Operators Theory and Applications

Download or read book Semigroups of Operators Theory and Applications written by Jacek Banasiak and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-12 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book features selected and peer-reviewed lectures presented at the 3rd Semigroups of Operators: Theory and Applications Conference, held in Kazimierz Dolny, Poland, in October 2018 to mark the 85th birthday of Jan Kisyński. Held every five years, the conference offers a forum for mathematicians using semigroup theory to discover what is happening outside their particular field of research and helps establish new links between various sub-disciplines of semigroup theory, stochastic processes, differential equations and the applied fields. The book is intended for researchers, postgraduate and senior students working in operator theory, partial differential equations, probability and stochastic processes, analytical methods in biology and other natural sciences, optimisation and optimal control. The theory of semigroups of operators is a well-developed branch of functional analysis. Its foundations were laid at the beginning of the 20th century, while Hille and Yosida’s fundamental generation theorem dates back to the forties. The theory was originally designed as a universal language for partial differential equations and stochastic processes but, at the same time, it started to become an independent branch of operator theory. Today, it still has the same distinctive character: it develops rapidly by posing new ‘internal’ questions and, in answering them, discovering new methods that can be used in applications. On the other hand, it is being influenced by questions from PDE’s and stochastic processes as well as from applied sciences such as mathematical biology and optimal control and, as a result, it continually gathers new momentum. However, many results, both from semigroup theory itself and the applied sciences, are phrased in discipline-specific languages and are hardly known to the broader community.

Book excerpt: Many results, both from semi group theory itself and from the applied sciences, are phrased in discipline-specific languages and hence are hardly known to a broader community. This volume contains a selection of lectures presented at a conference that was organised as a forum for all mathematicians using semi group theory to learn what is happening outside their own field of research. The collection will help to establish a number of new links between various sub-disciplines of semigroup theory, stochastic processes, differential equations and the applied fields. Book Semigroups of Linear and Nonlinear Operations and Applications

Download or read book Semigroups of Linear and Nonlinear Operations and Applications written by Gisèle Ruiz Goldstein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first publication which follows an agreement by Kluwer Publishers with the Caribbean Mathematics Foundation (CMF), to publish the proceedings of its mathematical activities. To which one should add a disclaimer of sorts, namely that this volume is not the first in a series, because it is not first, and be cause neither party to the agreement construes these publications as elements of a series. Like the work of CMF, the arrangement between it and Kluwer Publishers, evolved gradually, empirically. CMF was created in 1988, and inaugurated with a conference on Ordered Algebraic Structures. Every year since there have been gatherings on a variety of mathematical topics: Locales and Topological Groups in 1989; Positive Operators in 1990; Finite Geometry and Abelian Groups in 1991; Semigroups of Operators last year. It should be stressed, however that in preparing for the first conference, there was no plan which might have augured what came after. One could say that one thing led to another, and one would be right enough.

Book Evolution Semigroups in Dynamical Systems and Differential Equations

Download or read book Evolution Semigroups in Dynamical Systems and Differential Equations written by Carmen Chicone and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1999 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main theme of the book is the spectral theory for evolution operators and evolution semigroups, a subject tracing its origins to the classical results of J. Mather on hyperbolic dynamical systems and J. Howland on nonautonomous Cauchy problems. The authors use a wide range of methods and offer a unique presentation. The authors give a unifying approach for a study of infinite-dimensional nonautonomous problems, which is based on the consistent use of evolution semigroups. This unifying idea connects various questions in stability of semigroups, infinite-dimensional hyperbolic linear skew-product flows, translation Banach algebras, transfer operators, stability radii in control theory, Lyapunov exponents, magneto-dynamics and hydro-dynamics. Thus the book is much broader in scope than existing books on asymptotic behavior of semigroups. Included is a solid collection of examples from different areas of analysis, PDEs, and dynamical systems. This is the first monograph where the spectral theory of infinite dimensional linear skew-product flows is described together with its connection to the multiplicative ergodic theorem; the same technique is used to study evolution semigroups, kinematic dynamos, and Ruelle operators; the theory of stability radii, an important concept in control theory, is also presented. Examples are included and non-traditional applications are provided.

Book Stability and Stabilization of Infinite Dimensional Systems with Applications

Download or read book Stability and Stabilization of Infinite Dimensional Systems with Applications written by Zheng-Hua Luo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reports on recent achievements in stability and feedback stabilization of infinite systems. In particular emphasis is placed on second order partial differential equations, such as Euler-Bernoulli beam equations, which arise from vibration control of flexible robots arms and large space structures. Various control methods such as sensor feedback control and dynamic boundary control are applied to stabilize the equations. Many new theorems and methods are included in the book. Proof procedures of existing theorems are simplified, and detailed proofs have been given to most theorems. New results on semigroups and their stability are presented, and readers can learn several useful techniques for solving practical engineering problems. Until now, the recently obtained research results included in this book were unavailable in one volume. This self-contained book is an invaluable source of information for all those who are familiar with some basic theorems of functional analysis.

Book Stability of Finite and Infinite Dimensional Systems

Download or read book Stability of Finite and Infinite Dimensional Systems written by Michael I. Gil' and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of Stability of Finite and Infinite Dimensional Systems is to provide new tools for specialists in control system theory, stability theory of ordinary and partial differential equations, and differential-delay equations. Stability of Finite and Infinite Dimensional Systems is the first book that gives a systematic exposition of the approach to stability analysis which is based on estimates for matrix-valued and operator-valued functions, allowing us to investigate various classes of finite and infinite dimensional systems from the unified viewpoint. This book contains solutions to the problems connected with the Aizerman and generalized Aizerman conjectures and presents fundamental results by A. Yu. Levin for the stability of nonautonomous systems having variable real characteristic roots. Stability of Finite and Infinite Dimensional Systems is intended not only for specialists in stability theory, but for anyone interested in various applications who has had at least a first-year graduate-level course in analysis.
