War Paul Laband bisher für seine epochemachende Auslegung der Reichsverfassung bekannt, so erschließen die Vorlesungen den eigentlichen staatstheoretischen Hintergrund, ja die gesellschaftspolitische Grundkonzeption seiner staatsrechtlichen Dogmatik. Je größer die rechtsformende Kraft der Wissenschaft ist, desto wichtiger werden die Fragen nach der staatsrechtlichen Methodik und mehr noch nach den staatstheoretischen und rechtsphilosophischen Grundlagen des Staatsdenkens. Mit der Herausgabe dieses Bandes wird ein lange bestehendes Desiderat erfüllt: Die Vorlesungen Paul Labands sind Standardtexte der staatsrechtlichen, staatstheoretischen und rechtshistorischen Quellen.
