Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Saint Bernards, the popular droopy-faced giants of the dog world that everyone loves. You’ve seen them in movies and commercials, and read about them in books. You’ve probably even seen their famous depiction as rescue dogs that carry a barrel around their neck. Saint Bernards have even been given the title “nanny dog.” What’s the truth behind all these depictions of the breed? Would trying to fit one of these giant dogs into your house be right for your family and lifestyle? Just how big can they get, and how much food does a dog this large consume? This breed has piqued the curiosity of dog lovers everywhere. While many find that large-breed dogs can be intimidating, Saint Bernards are one of the easiest large-breed dogs to care for. They aren’t picky eaters, they don’t require tons of exercise, and they are huge on cuddling. We get that navigating puppyhood can be tough. This is especially true when your new two-month-old puppy is already the size of a Shih Tzu! Maybe you’ve even gone the extra mile and decided to adopt an adult Saint Bernard. You’re probably wondering what all goes into caring for your giant new roommate. You’ve come to the right place to learn how to live with your very own Saint Bernard. These sweet-tempered dogs are much more than the movies depict. Like any breed, they come with their own complications, quirks, and slobbery kisses. In this book, you will learn about bringing a puppy home, dealing with an adult Saint Bernard, and even how to care for them into seniorhood. Whether you don’t know if your home is big enough or you’re trying to find the right food for your puppy, this guide will give you everything you ever wanted to know about Saint Bernards and more!

As African American men gained the right to vote, white Democrats of the parish feared losing their majority. Armed groups mobilized to suppress these recently emancipated voters in the hopes of regaining a way of life turned upside down by the Civil War and Reconstruction. Freedpeople were dragged from their homes and murdered in cold blood. Many fled to the cane fields to hide from their attackers. The reported number of those killed varies from 35 to 135. The tragedy was hidden, but implications reverberated throughout the South and lingered for generations. Book The Family that Overtook Christ

Download or read book The Family that Overtook Christ written by M. Raymond and published by IVE Press. This book was released on 2014-01-10 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the fascinating account of a family that took seriously the challenge to follow Christ… and to overtake Him. With warmth and realism, Venerable Tescelin, Blesseds Alice, Guy, Gerard, Humbeline, Andrew, Bartholomew, Nivard and St. Bernard step off these pages with the engaging naturalness that attracts imitation. Here is a book that makes centuries disappear, as each member of this unique family becomes an inspiration in our own quest of overtaking Christ. One of the Biggest figures in this book is Bernard of Clairvaux. He was called the man of his age, the voice of his century. His influence towered above that of his contemporaries, and his sanctity moved God Himself. Men flocked to him¬—some in wonder, others in curiosity, but all drawn by the magnetism of his spiritual giant hood. Bernard —who or what fashioned him to be suitable for his role of counseling Popes, healing schisms, battling errors and filling the world with holy religious and profound spiritual doctrine? Undoubtedly, Bernard is the product of God's grace. But it is hard to say whether this grace is more evident in Bernard himself or in the extraordinary family in which God chose to situate this dynamic personality.

Book Medical Genetic Behavioral Risk Factors of Saint Bernards

Download or read book Medical Genetic Behavioral Risk Factors of Saint Bernards written by Ross Clark and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-09-05 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book (Saint Bernards) provides you with a through description and positive attributes of this breed including origin, purpose, history, normal heights and weights, acceptable colors and behavioral traits. Our books differ from most books on dog breeds because this book also provides you with a comprehensive and authoritative source of all the known predisposed hereditary health syndromes for the breed. You will find extensive references for each problem described. We also provide the breed club address for this breed and a list of laboratories and organizations that can provide professional help and information. As a small animal veterinarian, I have always been intrigued by the way dogs have been bred to fill a purpose in life and further impressed that they also tend to love performing that service. Greyhounds and other sight hounds are built for speed with aerodynamic bodies consisting of small head, deep chest, narrow waist and large leg muscles. On the other hand Dachshunds take their name from German words meaning “badger dog” and they use their long nose, long body and short legs to both track, enter and dig into badger dens. After developing a practice that catered to clients with show dogs, my interest in each breed continued to grow as I studied and observed more and more about the unique predisposition and incidence of health problems in each breed. Breeders of purebred dogs for show were a challenge and inspirational for me to research and help them with their unique health problems. Historically references to hereditary problems are scattered throughout various Veterinary medical texts and journals such as ophthalmology, neurology, gastroenterology, cardiovascular and dermatology. This book, as well as the other books and articles I have written, is researched and compiled with the intention to provide both veterinarians and dog owners with comprehensive and authoritative predisposition information under the breed name. At the date of this publication, The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation and the The Kennel Club of England reports over 400 known hereditary health syndromes throughout the dog kingdom. At the writing of my first book in 1983, less than 50 hereditary issues are able to be predicted and or diagnosed. Sequencing of the canine genome, DNA tests, metabolic testing including blood tests and urine testing; plus, phenotypic examinations such as radiographs, ultrasound, and CERF or OFA eye registry exams by a Board Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist have advanced the science of breed related health and behavioral problems. This book will provide veterinarians, researchers, pet owners and breeders with a comprehensive guide to all the known problems veterinarians and dog owners should consider during pet selection and throughout each life stage of our canine friends.
