Download or read book Alphonsus de Liguori written by Frederick M. Jones and published by Liguori Publications. This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With great devotion to his subject, yet with the critical eye of a researcher & historian, Frederick M. Jones, C.Ss.R., brings Saint Alphonsus Liguori to life in this biographical & historical story of the Neapolitan nobleman turned priest, Redemptorist founder, bishop, & moral theologian. Capturing the personality & achievement of Alphonsus de Liguori, while refusing to gloss over numerous flaws in the saint's character, Father Jones depicts a zealous priest, a learned theologian, & the founder of an order that has brought great honor to the Church. In a work of careful scholarship that scours the breadth & width of the existing Alphonsian & Redemptorist archives, Father Jones displays a strong devotion to the Redemptorist founder without compromising his critical, historian's eye.

Whoever reads them with the proper dispositions will discover in them an indefinable something that appeals to the heart and stirs it to its very depths. We imagine we see the loving personality of the holy Bishop before us, and hear the words of eternal life from his very lips. The present volume is made up of choice selections from the various ascetical writings of the Saint. The order of virtues considered is that followed by the spiritual sons of St. Alphonsus in the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer. For each month of the year is assigned a particular virtue to which they are to devote their especial attention. Download or read book The Life of St Alphonsus Liguori written by Austin Carroll and published by . This book was released on 2020-08-02 with total page 729 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori (1696-1787) was an Italian bishop, one of the chief 18th-century moral theologians, and founder of the Redemptorists, a congregation dedicated primarily to parish and foreign missions. In 1871 he was named a Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius IX. In 1950 he was named patron saint of moralists and confessors by Pope Pius XII. Saint Alphonsus was known above all as a practical man who dealt in the concrete rather than the abstract. His life is indeed a practical model for the everyday Christian who has difficulty recognizing the dignity of Christian life amid the swirl of problems, pain, misunderstanding and failure. Alphonsus suffered all these things. He is a saint because he was able to maintain an intimate sense of the presence of the suffering Christ through it all.
