Download or read book Formal Foundations for Software Engineering Methods written by Heinrich Hußmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1997-09-23 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Hussmann builds a bridge between the pragmatic methods for the design of information systems and the formal, mathematical background. Firstly, the principal feasibility of an integration of the different methods is demonstrated. Secondly, the formalism is used as a systematic semantic analysis of the concepts in SSADM, a British standard structured software engineering method. Thirdly, a way of obtaining a hybrid formal-pragmatic specification using a combination of SSADM notations and formal (SPECTRUM) specifications is shown. This well-written book encourages scientists and software engineers to apply formal methods to practical software development problems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the late 1980s, the CAiSE conferences have provided a forum for the p- sentation and exchange of research results and practical experiences within the ?eld of Information Systems Engineering. CAiSE 2001 was the 13th conference in this series and was held from 4th to 8th June 2001 in the resort of Int- laken located near the three famous Swiss mountains – the Eiger, M ̈ onch, and Jungfrau. The ?rst two days consisted of pre-conference workshops and tutorials. The workshop themes included requirements engineering, evaluation of modeling methods, data integration over the Web, agent-oriented information systems, and the design and management of data warehouses. Continuing the tradition of recent CAiSE conferences, there was also a doctoral consortium. The p- conference tutorials were on the themes of e-business models and XML appli- tion development. The main conference program included three invited speakers, two tuto- als, and a panel discussion in addition to presentations of the papers in these proceedings. We also included a special ‘practice and experience’ session to give presentersanopportunitytoreportonanddiscussexperiencesandinvestigations on the use of methods and technologies in practice. Weextendourthankstothemembersoftheprogramcommitteeandallother referees without whom such conferences would not be possible. The program committee, whose members came from 20 di?erent countries, selected 27 hi- quality research papers and 3 experience reports from a total of 97 submissions. The topics of these papers span the wide-range of topics relevant to information systems engineering – from requirements and design through to implementation and operation of complex and dynamic systems.

Download or read book The Evolving Landscape of Ethical Digital Technology written by Simon Rogerson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-09-16 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a world that is awash in ubiquitous technology, even the least tech-savvy know that we must take care how that technology affects individuals and society. That governments and organizations around the world now focus on these issues, that universities and research institutes in many different languages dedicate significant resources to study the issues, and that international professional organizations have adopted standards and directed resources toward ethical issues in technology is in no small part the result of the work of Simon Rogerson. – Chuck Huff, Professor of Social Psychology at Saint Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota In 1995, Apple launched its first WWW server, Quick Time On-line. It was the year Microsoft released Internet Explorer and sold 7 million copies of Windows 95 in just 2 months. In March 1995, the author Simon Rogerson opened the first ETHICOMP conference with these words: We live in a turbulent society where there is social, political, economic and technological turbulence ... it is causing a vast amount of restructuring within all these organisations which impacts on individuals, which impacts on the way departments are set up, organisational hierarchies, job content, span of control, social interaction and so on and so forth. ... Information is very much the fuel of modern technological change. Almost anything now can be represented by the technology and transported to somewhere else. It's a situation where the more information a computer can process, the more of the world it can actually turn into information. That may well be very exciting, but it is also very concerning. That could be describing today. More than 25 years later, these issues are still at the forefront of how ethical digital technology can be developed and utilised. This book is an anthology of the author’s work over the past 25 years of pioneering research in digital ethics. It is structured into five themes: Journey, Process, Product, Future and Education. Each theme commences with an introductory explanation of the papers, their relevance and their interrelationship. The anthology finishes with a concluding chapter which summarises the key messages and suggests what might happen in the future. Included in this chapter are insights from some younger leading academics who are part of the community charged with ensuring that ethical digital technology is realised.

Download or read book Measuring Intangible Value written by David Ivor William Taylor and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2008 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurement of intangible benefits is a major problem for governments, commercial organizations, academics, and professionals involved in such disciplines as accountancy and economics. But it doesn't have to be difficult. Measuring Intangible Value brings clarity and understanding to this complex issue. Utilizing more than seven years of research into the concept of intangible value measurement, David I.W. Taylor attempts to bring two theories of intangible measurement together through the application of a redefined concept of value. These two theories include Michael Porter's value chain research and Thomas Saaty's structured decision-making method, analytical hierarchic process, and analytical network process. This study also develops the use of Porter's value chain theory to develop a process by which value can be categorized and then measured, and also considers identification of intangible benefits through categorization. These categories are then formulated as to the least amount of groupings necessary to assist in the options appraisal of project outcomes through the quantification of structured decision-making. Measuring Intangible Value brilliantly forges a relationship between academic theories to create a practical business model perfect for those in any type of organization!
