Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My own private opinion is that there is no such thing as preaching Christ and him crucified, unless you preach what now-a-days is called Calvinism. It is a nickname to call it Calvinism; Calvinism is the gospel, and nothing else. I do not believe we can preach the gospel, if we do not preach justification by faith, without works; nor unless we preach the sovereignty of God in his dispensation of grace; nor unless we exalt the electing, unchangeable, eternal, immutable, conquering, love of Jehovah: nor do I think we can preach the gospel, unless we base it upon the peculiar redemption which Christ made for his elect and chosen people; nor can I comprehend a gospel which lets saints fall away after they are called, and suffers the children of God to be burned in the fires of damnation after having believed. Such a gospel I abhor. The gospel of the Bible is not such a gospel. We preach Christ crucified in a different fashion, and to all gainsayers we reply. "We have not so learned Christ." (Charles Spurgeon)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: EXPOSITION OF THE DOCTRINES OF GRACETHURSDAY, APRIL 11th, 1861.THE REV. C. H. SPURGEON TOOK THE CHAIR AT 3 o'clock. The REV. C. H. SPURGEON in opening the proceedings said, we have met together beneath this roof already to set forth most of those truths in which consists the peculiarity of this Church. Last evening we endeavoured to show to the world, that we heartily recognised the essential union of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. And now, this afternoon and evening, it is our intention, through the lips of our brethren, to set forth those things which are verily received among us, and especially those great points which have been so often attacked, but which are still upheld and maintained,--truths which we have proved in our experience to be full of grace and truth. My only business upon this occasion is to introduce the brethren who shall address you, and I shall do so as briefly as possible, making what I shall say a preface to their remarks. The controversy which has been carried on between the Calvinist and the Arminian is exceedingly important, but it does not so involve the vital point of personal godliness as to make eternal life depend upon our holding either system of theology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In What's So Great About the Doctrines of Grace?, the Rev. Richard D. "Rick" Phillips shows that "the doctrines of grace," those theological tenets more popularly known as "the five points of Calvinism," are comforting, faith-strengthening, and humbling teachings. In six short chapters, Rev. Phillips demonstrates conclusively from Scripture that this view of salvation exalts God and makes plain His great love for man, which drove Him to do all that was necessary to redeem a people for Himself. - Publisher.

Book Spurgeon and the Doctrines of Grace

Download or read book Spurgeon and the Doctrines of Grace written by Charles H. Spurgeon and published by . This book was released on 2014-10-15 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The old truth that Calvin preached, that Augustine preached, that Paul preached, is the truth that I must preach today, or else be false to my conscience and my God." The truth Charles Spurgeon was referring to was a system of beliefs known as "the doctrines of grace," or, more simply, "Calvinism." For Spurgeon, Calvinism was not some man-made concept foreign to the teachings of the Bible. Instead, it is the gospel message, the very teaching of holy Scripture. In this collection of sermons and writings, Spurgeon sets forth the biblical teaching of salvation and why it's important for us today.

By tracing this conflict, exploring the issues involved in it and showing what was at stake in them.

Download or read book Sovereign Grace Pulpit written by Charles H. Spurgeon and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-08-09 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 238-page book is a collection of Spurgeon's sermons (unabridged and modernized English) that cover all “five points” of the Doctrines of Grace. They were carefully selected to present Spurgeon's teaching accurately and succinctly so there won't be any misunderstanding or misrepresenting. We are deeply indebted to Larry Pierce (the developer of the classic Bible software program, The Online Bible) and his wife Marion for their diligent labor in modernizing Spurgeon's sermons, a task they began in 2008 and plan to complete in 2018. They graciously granted permission to use these modernized versions for this book. We have also added: more visible section headings and subheadings; additional paragraph breaks to split unusually long paragraphs; Scripture references in brackets so they can be listed in the “Scripture Index”; the occasional footnote to add helpful information or explanation; a four-page Publisher's Preface; and an eleven-page biogrpahical sketch of Spurgeon. Following an Introduction using Spurgeon's “A Defense of Calvinism,” this collection includes 12 of his sermons: “The Unconquerable King,” “Divine Sovereignty,” “Human Inability,” “Free Will a Slave,” “God's Will and Man's Will,” “Election,” “The Death Of Christ,” “Particular Redemption,” “Effectual Calling,” “The Security of Believers; or, Sheep Who Shall Never Perish,” “Perseverance of the Saints;” and “High Doctrine” (the Conclusion).

Book The Doctrines of Grace from the Lips of Our Lord

Download or read book The Doctrines of Grace from the Lips of Our Lord written by J. D. Watson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-07-18 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The doctrine of salvation is the watershed doctrine of Scripture. Flowing from that doctrine will be not only all other doctrine but also personal practice and Christian ministry. The major controversy concerning salvation is whether it is a result of the sovereign grace of God alone or a mixture of "God's part" and "man's part." Addressing that issue is absolutely critical to the very foundations of Christianity itself. Whichever one of those premises is correct, we should expect to find it everywhere we look in Scripture, and that is precisely what we find. There is no truth that permeates the Bible more than the doctrines of God's sovereign grace. From Genesis to Revelation, in literally hundreds of verses, these doctrines call, capture, and command our attention.Of the many books of the Bible we could choose, the Gospel of John is among the most compelling because of its foundational nature. It is there we find some of the most profound teaching on the Doctrines of Grace in all Scripture. Examining more than one hundred verses in John, this small volume presents these great biblical and historical doctrines directly from the lips of our Lord.

Book The Gospel Focus of Charles Spurgeon

Download or read book The Gospel Focus of Charles Spurgeon written by Steven J. Lawson and published by . This book was released on 2012-03 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charles Spurgeon, the great Baptist preacher of nineteenth-century London, is remembered today as "the prince of preachers." However, the strength of Spurgeon's ministry went far beyond simple rhetorical skill. In The Gospel Focus of Charles Spurgeon, new from Reformation Trust Publishing, author Steven J. Lawson shows that Spurgeon fearlessly taught the doctrines of grace and tirelessly held forth the free offer of salvation in Jesus Christ. In thirty-eight years as pastor of the congregation meeting at the New Park Street Chapel and later the Metropolitan Tabernacle, Spurgeon propounded Calvinistic theology with precision and clarity. Yet he always accompanied it with a passionate plea for sinners to come to Christ and be saved. Lawson traces these twin points of emphasis throughout Spurgeon's long, fruitful ministry, showing also that he preached Christ crucified without apology and looked to the Holy Spirit for success in all his endeavors.
