Book The Marriage of Sense and Soul

Download or read book The Marriage of Sense and Soul written by Ken Wilber and published by Random House. This book was released on 2011-08-03 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is arguably no more critical and pressing topic than the relation of science and religion in the modern world. Science has given us the methods for discovering truth, while religion remains the single greatest force for generating meaning. Yet the two are seen as mutually exclusive, with wrenching consequences for humanity. In The Marriage of Sense and Soul, one of today's most important philosophers brilliantly articulates how we might begin to think about science and religion in ways that allow for their reconciliation and union, on terms that will be acceptable to both camps. Ken Wilber is widely acclaimed as the foremost thinker in integrating Western psychology and the Eastern spiritual traditions. His many books have reached across disciplines and synthesized the teachings of religion, psychology, physics, mysticism, sociology, and anthropology, earning him a devoted international following. The Marriage of Sense and Soul is his most accessible work yet, aimed at guiding a general audience to the mutual accord between the spiritual, subjective world of ancient wisdom and the objective, empirical world of modern knowledge. Wilber clearly and succinctly explores the schism between science and religion, and the impact of this "philosophical Cold War" on the fate of humanity. He systematically reviews previous attempts at integration, explaining why romantic, idealistic, and postmodern theories failed. And he demonstrates how science is compatible with certain deep features common to all of the world's major religious traditions. In pointing the way to a union between truth and meaning, Ken Wilber has created an elegant and accessible book that is breathtaking in its scope.

Individually and together, the essays show how the study of ourselves, our planet, and the universe helps us understand our place as spiritual beings within God’s universe. The book is a tribute to Sir John Templeton and his pioneering commitment toward new research that results in “one hundredfold more spiritual information than humankind has ever possessed before.” It begins with essays that reflect on Sir John’s principal domains of interest and expertise: free-enterprise based finance and accelerating spiritual progress. Themes of the sections are: •Science-Religion Dialogue •Cosmology, Physics, and Astronomy •Mathematics, Musicology, and Speculation •Biological Evolution—the Human Being •Social Evolution—the Human Mind and Heart •Religion and Health •The Nature of the Divine •Theology and Philosophy •Faith Traditions “Sir John’s leadership has enabled us to edge ever closer to the frontier where knowledge meets wisdom at the threshold of ‘ultimate reality,’” notes the editor in the preface to this volume. As Spiritual Information presents an overview of how far we have come in the science and religion dialogue, it also opens windows to the vast possibilities for additional research and further advances in spiritual information.

Download or read book Science Religion and Spirituality written by Sukhraj Dhillon and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2013-01-27 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "SCIENCE, RELIGION & SPIRITUALITY" arrives at a time when youth is returning to a kind of religion where spirituality is on the rise. There is no longer value in articles with titles such as "Is God Dead?" Today we are using science to complement our spirituality. This new notion prompted the writing of this book that combines Eastern religious traditions and Western scientific knowledge to develop practical spirituality. This guide teaches how to observe the mind, to live in gratitude, and to discard expectations. The benefits of focusing on our spiritual-self include tranquility, increased production and resurgence of vitality, mental clarity, and joy of living. There is even a test to know your spirituality level. This book is not about creating a new religion, sect or movement, but in fact is about loving every religion. There are books on god and religion, and on spirituality. But this is one book that presents reconciliation between science and god/religion. It brings science and spirituality together which are generally treated as oil and water. "Science, Religion & Spirituality" (Similar to Human Genome leader Collin's belief) explains that Science and God can co-exist. Truth cannot contradict itself. Truth from science and truth from God/Religion must eventually converge into one grand whole, a unified knowledge of the laws that govern our universe. Those who fight over superiority of one over the other are blinded by ignorance about both. In the past, East has lived religiously-- that is one pole-- and because it has lived religiously it has not been able to produce good science. The West has lived scientifically, and because of its science it has lost track of spirituality. Now for the first time in this space age and internet: the earth is becoming one global village. This is the time when the reconciliation between science and religion can be seen, can be understood. The book consists of nine chapters and each chapter starts with an appropriate quote by some famous spiritualist, divine personality, prophet, philosopher or by the author itself: Chapter 1, The Power of Spirituality; Chapter 2, Religious Practices and New Consciousness; Chapter 3, The Universal Divine Mind; Chapter 4, A Free Mind; Chapter 5, Spiritual Living I; Chapter 6, Spiritual Living II; Chapter 7, God and Spirit; Chapter 8, Evil-The Absence of Goodness; Chapter 9, Full Living. The chapters precede by 'A Word' of introduction, and are followed by 'Test of Your spirituality Level, ' and References. The book introduction starts with a popular quote by Albert Einstein: "Religion without science is blind. Science without religion is lame" However, Dr. Dhillon goes even further to prove reconciliation between science and religion. There are 3 chapters that describe: How concept of god and spirituality help us coping with stress. These describe virtues such as surrender, forgiveness, prayer, positive thinking, and control over mind. There is information about relieving fear of death and disease, and creating a state of mind without fear. Concept of soul and reincarnation, evil, hell, and heaven are explained from both scientific and religious point of view. There is another chapter on: How our attitude and actions are related to pain and pleasure, love, friendship, and happiness. An understanding of science, religion, and spirituality will put us on a road to love and happiness irrespective of our faith.

Book Science and Spirituality

Download or read book Science and Spirituality written by David Knight and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-04-14 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until the end of the eighteenth century, almost everyone believed that the empirical world of science could produce evidence for a wise and loving God. By the twenty-first century this comforting certainty has almost vanished. What caused such a cataclysmic change in attitudes to science and to the world? Science and Spirituality offers a new history of the interaction between Western science and faith, which explores their volatile connection, and challenges the myth of their being locked in inevitable conflict. Journeying from the French Revolution to the present day, and taking in such figures as Francis Bacon, René Descartes, Charles Darwin, Immanuel Kant, Albert Einstein, Mary Shelley and Stephen Hawking, David Knight shows how science evolved from medieval and Renaissance forms of natural theology into the empirical discipline we know today. Focusing on the overthrow of Church and State in revolutionary France, and on the crucial nineteenth century period when a newly emerging scientific community rendered science culturally accessible, Science and Spirituality shows how scientific disenchantment has provided some of our most flexible and powerful metaphors for God, such as the hidden puppet-master and the blind watchmaker, and illustrates how questions of moral and spiritual value continue to intervene in scientific endeavour.

Book Nature s Hidden Force

  • Author : George Land
  • Publisher : Humanist Press

Download or read book Nature s Hidden Force written by George Land and published by Humanist Press. This book was released on 2014-07-30 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A stunning new take on the old science vs. spirituality debate. Land and Jarman begin by demolishing one of the sacred cows of physics: “entropy,” the idea that the universe is irreversibly headed toward a whimpering “heat death.” Using rigorous scientific methods, they show that the universe isn’t falling apart after all – it’s getting better, all the time! They next take on Einstein’s theory of relativity, explaining in simple terms how quantum mechanics describes a universe that isn’t a giant clockwork, but something far more profound – a combination of past cause and “Future Pull.” What does all this science have to do with spirituality? Everything! Land and Jarman label nature’s impulse for overcoming entropy and pulling us into the future “Creative Connecting.” A force as scientifically real and demonstrable as gravity, and far more worthy of “reverence” than any ghost dreamed up by an ancient religion. Think of your most memorable moments of deep spirituality: watching a sunset, being moved by music … That powerful feeling you experience is “being at one with the universe.” In other words, a sense of “connecting.” What’s the best part of religious teaching? “Love thy neighbor” – more “connecting.” Land and Jarman prove that you don’t have to give up on science to be truly spiritual – you just have to get it right. And you don’t have to be ashamed of your spiritual side if you want to live your life according to empirical reality – you just have to revere the force in nature that really exists.

Book Logical Faith

Download or read book Logical Faith written by Joseph P. Provenzano and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2007-07-30 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science has failed to develop ethical guidelines or a path to personal fulfillment as previously expected. Religious differences continue to be a source of friction, threatening world peace. But now a new, more encompassing vision of reality-a vision that offers new ways to address these problems-is emerging. This evolutionary view, presented by authors Joseph P. Provenzano and Richard W. Kropf, builds on the findings of modern science, but also touches on personal fulfillment and spiritual values. In our worldwide, computerized information age, we have seen an unprecedented clash of moral values, scientific pursuits, religions, spiritual movements, and cultures. Provenzano and Kropf explain how it is possible to have a religious faith consistent with the understanding of matter and energy as studied by contemporary science-logical faith. Logical Faith: Introducing a Scientific View of Spirituality and Religion presents a clear, down-to-earth formulation of an emerging vision. Provenzano and Kropf show how their viewpoint can be used as a bridge between science and spirituality and as a base to develop a new path to tolerance among the world's great religions and spiritual movements.

Book The Beautiful Scientist

  • Author : Corrado Ghinamo
  • Publisher : Tate Publishing
  • Release : 2013-02-05
  • ISBN : 1621474623
  • Pages : 190 pages

Download or read book The Beautiful Scientist written by Corrado Ghinamo and published by Tate Publishing. This book was released on 2013-02-05 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are science and faith antithetic? Are the new discoveries in science making faith in God totter? Or can science be the basis for strong faith and the belief in a Creator? Discover how. The Beautiful Scientist takes an interesting look at science and faith, and how the two can work together to prove there is a Creator. Corrado Ghinamo believes it is the very existence of the universe that allows people to see there is a super-entity, there is a God. He uses scientific evidence, like the Big Bang Theory, the smallest particles of the universe, the galaxies, and what he calls the Super-Force to prove just that—God does exist. Creation and evolution are not two separate ideals; rather evolution is one of the means that God used and still uses in creating and governing the universe. Ghinamo shows that God is a logical necessity to complete the vision of scientist's universe. The same goes for people of faith; there is scientific evidence that can further the existence of a Creator. The Beautiful Scientist: A Spiritual Approach to Science uses easy-to-understand language, examples from everyday life, and an easy-to-follow structure to prove that the universe, far more beautiful and complex than people can imagine, was in fact created by God, and that evidence and rationality in science can lead to the belief in God.
