Book excerpt: This writing is not meant to replace any legitimate doctors care, and you are free to share this information with any professional that you feel has not been so energetically affected by alien spirit to where their judgment would be too compromised to benefit you. Surely a doctor can find even more possibilities other than what I have found helpful to work with consistency in this writing; otherwise, this writing could prove to be a beneficial supplemental aid to the unusual energetic alien operations happening among us and hopefully help bring more of a balanced (or removal to any imbalanced) energy trying to engage you with the ability to ritually cause sickness and/or disease.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unspeakable probes the relationship between trauma theory and Christian theology in order to support preachers in the task of crafting sermons that adequately respond to trauma in the pews and the world at large. How might sermons contribute to resiliency and the repairing of wounds caused by traumatic experiences? This book seeks to provide a theological lens for preachers who wonder how their ‘beautiful words’ can address suffering amid traumatic wounding. Preaching is a healing discourse that proclaims gospel, or good news. Gospel is a complicated reality, especially in the face of trauma. Drawing on various theologies and insights from trauma theory, Unspeakable challenges the notion of a triumphant gospel, seeking an in-between perspective that honors both resurrection and the trauma that remains despite our desire to get to the good news. It builds on images of the preacher as witness and midwife in order to develop homiletical practices that acknowledge the limitations of language and imagination experienced by traumatized individuals.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the mind is to create self. The purpose of the renewed mind is to create self in the image and likeness of God in both form and function. The mind is not in the brain. The mind is born in darkness. It has to learn everything. The mind/spirit is a mirror image of the body/brain. A mind-body marriage. The mind answers the brain's what, when, and where questions with the how, who, and most importantly, why answers. The mind is a prosecutorial tool, always seeking after the truth. The mind must have a reason for the behavior of the body. Trust is the movement of faith. Revelation is experiential knowledge imprinted within our being.

  • Publisher : University of Virginia Press
  • Release : 2023-03-24

Download or read book Spirit Deep written by Tisha M. Brooks and published by University of Virginia Press. This book was released on 2023-03-24 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What would it mean for American and African American literary studies if readers took the spirituality and travel of Black women seriously? With Spirit Deep: Recovering the Sacred in Black Women’s Travel, Tisha Brooks addresses this question by focusing on three nineteenth-century Black women writers who merged the spiritual and travel narrative genres: Zilpha Elaw, Amanda Smith, and Nancy Prince. Brooks hereby challenges the divides between religious and literary studies, and between coerced and "free" passages within travel writing studies to reveal meaningful new connections in Black women’s writings. Bringing together both sacred and secular texts, Spirit Deep uncovers an enduring spiritual legacy of movement and power that Black women have claimed for themselves in opposition to the single story of the Black (female) body as captive, monstrous, and strange. Spirit Deep thus addresses the marginalization of Black women from larger conversations about travel writing, demonstrating the continuing impact of their spirituality and movements in our present world.

Download or read book Night Vision written by Mariana Alessandri and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2023-05-09 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The state of the world makes it difficult to look on the bright side. If there is a bright side perhaps it is that we have come to see the virtues of previously taboo emotions such as anger, sadness, anguish, anxiety, and grief. According to philosopher Mariana Alessandri, we're beginning to see that they are not evils to be avoided but valuable and sometimes even productive states. Many of us are coming to see that our darker feelings have something to teach us about ourselves, others, and what it is to be human. However, many of us don't know how to feel about what we're beginning to let ourselves feel. She asks: Is it (still) wrong for women to be angry? Is anxiety something we talk about openly now? Can we cry without apologizing yet? Our emotional landscape has been shifting, but no one's guiding us. As Alessandri says, "we need someone to help us grope around in the dark until our eyes adjust." In this book, Alessandri aims to explore these emotions and use philosophy to remove the stigma that still attaches to dark feelings. When we embrace our difficult feelings, she argues, we realize that hidden within them can be found wit and humor, closeness and warmth, connection and purpose, mission and motivation, empathy and self-knowledge, accuracy and communion. Drawing on philosophers and thinkers from Aristotle to Kierkegaard and Miguel de Unamuno to C.S. Lewis as well as contemporary philosophers such as Gloria Anzaldúa, Maria Lugones and bell hooks (as well as Fred "Mister" Rogers; more below!), Alessandri aims show how these thinkers helped to restore dignity to these feelings. Like them her aim is not to correct us but to help us feel, understand, and honor our sometimes painful emotions"--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first comparative history of African American and Black British artists, artworks, and art movements, Stick to the Skin traces the lives and works of over fifty painters, photographers, sculptors, and mixed-media, assemblage, installation, video, and performance artists working in the United States and Britain from 1965 to 2015. The artists featured in this book cut to the heart of hidden histories, untold narratives, and missing memories to tell stories that "stick to the skin" and arrive at a new "Black lexicon of liberation." Informed by extensive research and invaluable oral testimonies, Celeste-Marie Bernier’s remarkable text forcibly asserts the originality and importance of Black artists’ work and emphasizes the need to understand Black art as a distinctive category of cultural production. She launches an important intervention into European histories of modern and contemporary art and visual culture as well as into debates within African American studies, African diasporic studies, and Black British studies. Among the artists included are Benny Andrews, Bessie Harvey, Lubaina Himid, Claudette Johnson, Noah Purifoy, Faith Ringgold, Betye Saar, Joyce J. Scott, Maud Sulter, and Barbara Walker.

Book Human Survival and Consciousness Evolution

Download or read book Human Survival and Consciousness Evolution written by Stanislav Grof and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1988-01-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In addition to the apocalyptic prospect of global nuclear destruction, there are other dismal scenarios involving resource and environmental issues that are less imminent but still serious in the long term. Past analyses, seeking remedies, have focused on symptoms rather than causes. They represent extensions and expressions of the same philosophies and strategies that created these situations. This book brings a fresh and optimistic perspective to the problem area. It explores modern consciousness research and transpersonal psychology for practices that accelerate the development of consciousness. It covers a wide range from laboratory techniques of experimental psychiatry, transpersonal psychotherapies, and Jungian psychology to the Oriental and Western mystical traditions.

Book From Earth Spirits to Sky Gods

Download or read book From Earth Spirits to Sky Gods written by Bruce Lerro and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2000 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thought-provoking new book, Bruce Lerro offers a speculative reconstruction of the sacred beliefs and practices of cultures existing between 30,000 and 500 B.C.E. Lerro describes how material changes in various social formations--including hunting-gathering bands and horticulturalists in villages--were responsible for the shift from magic to realism, from the belief in earth spirits to faith in sky gods. Drawing from such diverse theorists as Marx and Engels, Vygotsky, Piaget, and George Herbert Mead, Lerro critiques and transforms mechanical, humanistic, new age, and countercultural perspectives on the history of sacred traditions. This study of comparative religion and mythology has important applications for the fields of archaeology, evolutionary anthropology, sociology, political science, and comparative psychology.
