Download or read book Pistis Sophia written by John van den Berg and published by Setheus. This book was released on 2021-12-11 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Coptic manuscript from late antiquity is known by the scientific name Codex Askewianus, attributed to Anthony Askew. He acquired it at a London market in 1785. His heirs later entrusted it to the curators of the British Museum. At the end of the nineteenth century, the manuscript was translated and from then on became known as the Gospel of the Pistis Sophia. The German translation by Carl Schmitt from 1905 is the basis for the later English translations by G.R.S Mead from 1921 and that by Violet MacDermot from 1978. This completely revised English translation is also based on the work of Carl Schmitt. To make reading easier, titles have been given to the chapters and the codex is treated as one scripture where a thematic distinction in six themes is added. Recent research by Erin Evans has made it very plausible that the scripture originates from a congregation once active in Egypt. It contains part of their teachings from the third to the fourth century of our era. An older scripture by them is known as the books of Jeu. Both scriptures are written in Coptic, most likely based on an unknown Greek original. Coptic is a language that came into vogue in ancient Egypt. It is Old Egyptian, called Demotic, written with Greek characters, supplemented with seven extra characters. A word that occurs frequently in this English version is the word repent. The original Greek word for it is metanoia, which literally means meta-thought or beyond-thought. Thus repentance has the meaning of a state of consciousness beyond the human thought. To repent, then, is to come to an awareness of what is beyond the world of thought, beyond the human mind. The repentance of the Pistis Sophia thus takes her beyond the spiritual powers of the darkness, with their archons and emanations of Authades, the mighty human willpower. Through consciousness she enters the thirteenth eon, after an outpouring of light has taken her there, as if she has grown wings and no longer needs to touch the darkness. From then on she brings back to mankind the wisdom from beyond the human mind, which once had become forgotten. What this scripture wants to tell the reader in our modern times is that on the basis of the inner intention to truly get to know the mysteries, a power appears to help in this process. The myth tells us the story of Jesus with his disciples on the Mount of Olives after the crucifixion; after the power of Jesus connected itself with mankind. The disciples are the people who start becoming conscious of this liberating power. For it is the act from true awareness that makes all the powers of the saviour active in the human life in the world of space and time. As soon as someone decides to be a disciple, there is a readiness to let the saviour guide this inner life. This is why the entire scripture is written as a dialogue between Jesus and his disciples. This dialogue begins on the Mount of Olives. From this place the holy city of Jerusalem can be seen. It is the state of consciousness of the disciples who are preparing themselves to enter into the holy city: Jerusalem, the treasury of the light. When Jesus has spoken the first words in the midst of the disciples and the disciples understand their privileged position, Jesus ascends, surrounded by a threefold light. He comes back with his garments of light from the treasury of the light. These garments of light contain all the mysteries, that is, all the hidden knowledge that need to be revealed to the disciples in order to enable them to enter the treasury of light themselves. Thus they gain a higher level of consciousness, beyond thought.

Book excerpt: In these days of the " higher criticism," with its merciless analysis of original Scripture, much light would doubtless be thrown on the New Testament by an unprejudiced study of Gnosticism. This philosophy, which reached a flourishing maturity in the second century of the Christian era, but became virtually extinct in the sixth, taught that all natures — intellectual, moral, spiritual, and material—are successive emanations from Deity. Its professors claimed to have an esoteric and philosophic knowledge of Christian doctrines, and some modern scholars assert that the Gospels are replete with allusions to the Gnostic teaching. Although it is now fashionable to dismiss the Syrian and Egyptian schools as a fantastic combination of Oriental mysticism, Greek philosophy, and Christian theology, yet it is probable that a profound interest will be awakened among reasoning Christians by " Pistis Sophia."

Book excerpt: The resurrection teachings Jesus taught to his disciple. Matthew 13:10 confirms the separate teachings: The disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?” He replied, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them. This is why I speak to them in parables: Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: “ ‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.’ ” But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it. " – Matthew 13:10-16 It is not only important to fully understand all of the knowledge within Jesus' teachings, the level within the heavens you will inherit, after your life, depends upon it.

Book The True Message of Jesus Christ

Download or read book The True Message of Jesus Christ written by Various Authors and published by e-artnow. This book was released on 2021-11-26 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our image of Jesus Christ is mostly based upon the tradition which can be found in the New Tes-tament. The four canonical gospels share the same basic outline of the life of Jesus. Preached for centuries by priests, monks, theologians, etc. biblical image of Jesus is deeply incised into the col-lective memory through out the Christian world and beyond._x000D_ Bearing this in mind, it should be noted however, that most of the testimonies regarding Jesus' life and work written by his contemporaries or persons who lived immediately after his death, never made it to the New Testament. These texts compose the so called New Testament apocrypha. Those are writings by early Christians that give accounts of Jesus and his teachings, the nature of God, or the teachings of his apostles and of their lives. _x000D_ The New Testament apocrypha offer a somewhat different image of Jesus from the one that is fa-miliar to the most of us. Most of these texts are not opposed to the canonical gospels but they pro-vide additional information regarding Jesus' life. Therefore, the best way to observe the New Tes-tament apocrypha is to observe them as a missing puzzle. Jointly, with the canonical gospels they will help us fully to perceive Jesus and to get closer to his human nature. _x000D_ Content:_x000D_ Infancy Gospels_x000D_ The Gospel of the Birth of Mary_x000D_ The Gospel Called the Protevangelion _x000D_ The First Gospel of the Infancy of Jesus Christ _x000D_ The Second, or St. Thomas's Gospel of the Infancy of Jesus Christ _x000D_ The History of Joseph the Carpenter_x000D_ Passion Gospels_x000D_ The Gospel of Nicodemus, Formerly Called the Acts of Pontius Pilate_x000D_ The Gospel of Peter_x000D_ Dialogues With Jesus_x000D_ The Gospel of the Egyptians_x000D_ General Texts Concerning Jesus_x000D_ The Letter of Lentulus_x000D_ Pistis Sophia
