Book Spin Dependent Electron Proton Scattering in the Delta Excitation Region

Download or read book Spin Dependent Electron Proton Scattering in the Delta Excitation Region written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report on measurements of the cross section and provide first data on spin correlation parameters A{sub TT'} and A{sub TL'} in inclusive scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons from nuclear-polarized hydrogen. Polarized electrons were injected into an electron storage ring operated at a beam energy of 720 MeV. Polarized hydrogen was produced by an atomic beam source and injected into an open-ended cylindrical cell, located in the electron storage ring. The four-momentum transfer squared ranged from Q2 = 0.2 GeV2/c2 at the elastic scattering peak to Q2 = 0.11 GeV2/c2 at the Delta (1232) resonance. The data provide a stringent test of pion electroproduction models.

Book Internal Spin Structure of the Proton from High Energy Polarized E p Scattering

Download or read book Internal Spin Structure of the Proton from High Energy Polarized E p Scattering written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A review is given of experimental knowledge of the spin dependent structure functions of the proton, which is based on inclusive high energy scattering of longitudinal polarized electrons by longitudinally polarized protons in both the deep inelastic and resonance regions, and includes preliminary results from our most recent SLAC experiment. Implications for scaling, sum rules, models of proton structure, and the hyperfine structure interval in hydrogen are given. Possible future directions of research are indicated.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the "International Conference on Spin Excitations in Nuclei" held in Telluride, Colo rado, March 25-27, 1982. The motivation for the conference was, in a large part due to the recent development of new variable energy accelerators which produce high quality beams of electrons, protons, and pions that are providing the first precise information on spin excitations in nuclei over a large range of spin and mass. In the past such data had been restricted primarily to light nuclei and were generally resolution limited. Perhaps, the most exciting new result has been the clear observation of the elusive spin-dipole strength (Gamow Teller and Ml) in medium and heavy mass nuclei through the use of the (p,n) and (p,p') reactions at or near zero degrees with 100-200 MeV incident protons. Energy dependence in the isovector parts of the nucleon-nucleon interaction make the 100-200 MeV energy region particularly appropriate for such studies. The clean data from (e,e'), ('IT,'IT'), (p,p'), and (p,n) on high spin "stretched" states which have particularly simple structure has also been quite impor tant. The recent results contain important new information on the nature of the spin dependent forces in nuclei. These in turn are inherently related to the properties of the nuclear mesonic field and the underlying quantum chromodynamics.

Book Proton and Neutron Spin Structure Functions in and Near the Resonance Region

Download or read book Proton and Neutron Spin Structure Functions in and Near the Resonance Region written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 52303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present an overview of the measurements for polarized electron scattering from polarized NH_3, ND_3, and ^3He targets at JLab. All three experimental halls are involved in this program. The data span a range in Q^2 up to about 3.5 GeV^2 and a range in the gamma*N invariant mass W up to 3.5 GeV. The photon absorption function A_1 and the spin structure function g1 for the proton and deuteron have been extracted from data obtained with the CLAS spectrometer. The photon absorption functions, A_1 and A_2, and the spin structure functions g_1 and g_2 for ^3He have been obtained from Hall A data.

Book The Spin Structure of the Proton in the Resonance Region

Download or read book The Spin Structure of the Proton in the Resonance Region written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inclusive double spin asymmetries have been measured for $\vec{p}$($\vec{e}$,e') using the CLAS detector and a polarized 15NH3 target at Jefferson Lab in 1998. The virtual photon asymmetry A1, the longitudinal spin structure function, g1 (x, Q2), and the first moment [Gamma]$1\atop{p}$, have been extracted for a Q2 range of 0.15-2.0 GeV2. These results provide insight into the low Q2 evolution of spin dependent asymmetries and structure functions as well as the transition of [Gamma]$1\atop{p}$ from the photon point, where the Gerasimov, Drell and Hearn Sum Rule is expected to be satisfied, to the deep inelastic region.

Book Resonance Estimates for Single Spin Asymmetries in Elastic Electron nucleon Scattering

Download or read book Resonance Estimates for Single Spin Asymmetries in Elastic Electron nucleon Scattering written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We discuss the target and beam normal spin asymmetries in elastic electron-nucleon scattering which depend on the imaginary part of two-photon exchange processes between electron and nucleon. We express this imaginary part as a phase space integral over the doubly virtual Compton scattering tensor on the nucleon. We use unitarity to model the doubly virtual Compton scattering tensor in the resonance region in terms of [gamma]* N → [pi] N electroabsorption amplitudes. Taking those amplitudes from a phenomenological analysis of pion electroproduction observables, we present results for beam and target normal single spin asymmetries for elastic electron-nucleon scattering for beam energies below 1 GeV and in the 1-3 GeV region, where several experiments are performed or are in progress.
