Book Specific Heat Jump in High Tc Superconductors

Download or read book Specific Heat Jump in High Tc Superconductors written by P. W. O. Nyawere and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-07 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Superconductivity of high-Tc cuprates and their transition temperature is strongly dependent on the content and ordering of oxygen deficiencies. It is not clear how pairing of oxygen atoms occur in these structures, but it is believed that the existence of several equivalent positions of oxygen atoms causes a strong anharmonic perturbation. In this work we seek to confirm that BCS theory is insufficient in explaining the electron-electron pairing in high-Tc superconductors and that the type of pairing is exotic as has been reported in (18). The nature of characteristic curves are similar confirming that this exotic pairing applies to all materials which have high-Tc. The transition is smooth and not abrupt jump as is known in normal superconductors. We report various values of specific heat jump and various ratios between normal state and superconducting states. These values are close to the experimental values so far reported though in some few cases their are divergence from the expected values. These values can be used to explain the thermodynamic characteristics of high-Tc superconductors.

Book Electronic Specific Heat Discontinuity at Critical Temperature of High Tc Superconductors

Download or read book Electronic Specific Heat Discontinuity at Critical Temperature of High Tc Superconductors written by Suchat Kaskamalas and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the specific heat jump at the critical temperature of high-Tc superconductor having the constant and the Van Hove Singularity density of states. By using the theory of Bardeen, Cooper, and Schrieffer (BCS) and considering the pairing states to be isotropic s-wave and anisotropic d-wave, we calculate the ratio between the jump in the specific heat and the normal phase specific heat at the critical temperature as a function of the debye frequency, the critical temperature, and the fermi energy, the results show significant deviations from the BCS value of 1.43.

Book High Tc Superconductors

Download or read book High Tc Superconductors written by Harald W. Weber and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past two years conferences on superconductivity have been characterized by the attendance of hundreds of scientists. Consequently, the organizers were forced to schedule numerous parallel sessions and poster presentations with an almost unsurveyable amount of information. It was, therefore, felt that a more informal get-together, providing ample time for a thourough discussion of some topics of current interest in high-temperature superconductivity, was timely and benefitial for leading scientists as well as for newcomers in the field. The present volume contains the majority of papers presented at the International Discussion Meeting on High-Tc Superconductors held at the Mauterndorf Castle in the Austrian Alps from February 7 to 11, 1988. Each subject was introduced in review form by a few invited speakers and then discussed together with the contributed poster presentations. These discussion sessions chaired by selected scientists turned out to be the highlights of the meeting, not only because all the participants truly appreciated the possibility of an information exchange, but mainly because of the magnificent job done by the discussion chairmen, John A. Mydosh (Leiden), Martin Peter (Geneva) and Ken E. Gray (Argonne). First results on the just discovered Bi-superconductors and the clarification of electron resonance experiments on (123)-compounds should be mentioned in particular. The relaxed atomosphere favoring free discussions was certainly promoted by the surroundings offered in the Mauterndorf Castle, which dates back to 1253. Poster presentations and a conference banquet in historic knight's halls are certainly not found everyday in conference routines.

Book Specific Heat of Unconventional Superconductors

Download or read book Specific Heat of Unconventional Superconductors written by Borko Djurkovic and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PrOs4Sb12 is the first known heavy fermion superconductor containing Pr. Many experiments show results indicating unconventional superconductivity in this system. Most notably, PrOs4Sb12 exhibits two superconducting transitions. The upper transition occurs at Tc1 ≈ 1.89 K and the lower transition occurs at Tc2 ≈ 1.72 K. There are many features of this system that are not understood and do not have a unifi ed consensus among researchers. Many issues remain unanswered, such as the origin of superconductivity, symmetry of the superconducting energy gap, and the nature of the two superconducting transitions. We present specific heat data for a single PrOs4Sb12 crystal. The data show two superconducting transitions. Variance in the lower superconducting transition (among various samples) suggests multiple superconducting phases. Power law dependence of the low temperature specific heat is indicative of asymmetric energy gap. Cuprates are unconventional high temperature superconductors. The theory on origin and characteristics of superconductivity in these systems is still a debated issue. Experiments indicate presence of a phase in these systems that occurs above the superconducting transition temperature which exhibits some common characteristics with the superconducting state. An important issue is the nature of this so-called "pseudogap" phase and its relationship to the superconducting state. We have developed an experimental apparatus and procedure for measuring the specific heat of a high temperature superconductor and demonstrated it by measuring the heat capacity of a YBCO high-Tc superconductor sample.

Book Physical Properties Of High Temperature Superconductors Iv

Download or read book Physical Properties Of High Temperature Superconductors Iv written by Donald M Ginsberg and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-04-13 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains two chapters of direct interest for applications: The magnetic vortex states and transformations and the effects of c-axis coupling on the transport properties. In addition, the isotope effect is reviewed, since reliable data on ultra-pure samples are now available. The lattice vibrations (phonons) have been explored extensively by inelastic neutron scattering and infrared absorption and these types of data are reviewed as well. The interesting properties of the superconducting doped fullerenes are described; some of their most fundamental properties are shared by the superconducting cuprates. This book with its subject index, like the earlier three volumes in this series, will be found useful both by people entering the field and by workers who are already active in it.
