Book New Horizons in Time Domain Diffuse Optical Spectroscopy and Imaging

Download or read book New Horizons in Time Domain Diffuse Optical Spectroscopy and Imaging written by Yoko Hoshi and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-06-23 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jöbsis was the first to describe the in vivo application of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), also called diffuse optical spectroscopy (DOS). NIRS was originally designed for the clinical monitoring of tissue oxygenation, and today it has also become a useful tool for neuroimaging studies (functional near-infrared spectroscopy, fNIRS). However, difficulties in the selective and quantitative measurements of tissue hemoglobin (Hb), which have been central in the NIRS field for over 40 years, remain to be solved. To overcome these problems, time-domain (TD) and frequency-domain (FD) measurements have been tried. Presently, a wide range of NIRS instruments are available, including commonly available commercial instruments for continuous wave (CW) measurements, based on the modified Beer–Lambert law (steady-state domain measurements). Among these measurements, the TD measurement is the most promising approach, although compared with CW and FD measurements, TD measurements are less common, due to the need for large and expensive instruments with poor temporal resolution and limited dynamic range. However, thanks to technological developments, TD measurements are increasingly being used in research, and also in various clinical settings. This Special Issue highlights issues at the cutting edge of TD DOS and diffuse optical tomography (DOT). It covers all aspects related to TD measurements, including advances in hardware, methodology, the theory of light propagation, and clinical applications.

Book Principles and Applications of Time Domain Electrometry in Geoenvironmental Engineering

Download or read book Principles and Applications of Time Domain Electrometry in Geoenvironmental Engineering written by A.M.O. Mohamed and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-07-27 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Time domain electrometry (TDE) is a general term which includes time domain reflectrometry and time domain transmissiometry. It is a commercially-viable technique for leak detection, contaminant monitoring, and moisture content determination in contaminant transport modelling. Under demographic pressure, contaminated sites are increasingly being re-developed for domestic and industrial use; and this presents an urgent need for reliable, non-intrusive and integrated methods of subsurface characterization, detection and monitoring of organic and inorganic pollutants, soil moisture content and salinity. This book provides an overview of the potential application of TDE in geoenvironmental engineering and describes the geophysical methods used.

Book Monitoring Groundwater Levels Using a Time domain Reflectometry TDR Pulser

Download or read book Monitoring Groundwater Levels Using a Time domain Reflectometry TDR Pulser written by Glenn A. Nicholson and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rugged, self-calibrating, time-domain reflectometer (TDR) device for monitoring groundwater elevations in piezometers was developed and demonstrated. The primary advantage of the TDR device over conventional downhole transducer technology is that the electronics are fixed at the surface where they are accessible and easy to maintain. The TDR instrumentation is also simple to install and does not require field calibration.

Book High Frequency Characterization of Electronic Packaging

Download or read book High Frequency Characterization of Electronic Packaging written by Luc Martens and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-Frequency Characterization of Electronic Packaging will be of interest to researchers and designers of high-frequency electronic packaging. Understanding high-frequency behavior of packaging is of growing importance due to higher clock-speeds in computers and higher data transmission rates in broadband telecommunication systems. Basic knowledge of the high-frequency behavior of packaging and interconnects is, therefore, indispensable for the design of future telecommunication and computer systems. High-Frequency Characterization of Electronic Packaging gives the reader an insight into how high-frequency characterization of electronic packaging should be done and describes the problems that have to be tackled, especially in performing accurate measurements on modern IC-packages and in determination of circuit models. High-Frequency Characterization of Electronic Packaging is conceived as a comprehensive guide for the start of research and to help in performing high-frequency measurements. Important notions in high- frequency characterization such as S-parameters, calibration, probing, de-embedding and measurement-based modeling are explained. The described techniques are illustrated with several up-to-date examples.

Book Frequency Stability

Download or read book Frequency Stability written by Venceslav F. Kroupa and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-09-19 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An in-depth look at the theory and applications of frequency stability An understanding of the acquisition of stable frequency is essential for anyone who needs to solve noise problems in wireless communications. This book offers a thorough introduction to the principles and applications of frequency stability, arming practicing engineers with the tools they need to minimize noise in systems and devices that affect everyday communications for millions of people. With an emphasis on both practical and scientific points of view, Frequency Stability: Introduction and Applications examines frequency and time fluctuations in resonators, as well as the stability of both standard and practical microwave oscillators.
