Book Innovation Capabilities Affirming an Oxymoron

Download or read book Innovation Capabilities Affirming an Oxymoron written by Tor Helge Aas and published by Cognitione Foundation for the Dissemination of Knowledge and Science. This book was released on 2017-01-01 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relationship between resources and capabilities and performance has been discussed since Edith Penrose addressed the mechanisms behind the growth of the firm (Penrose, 1959). Early contributions to this area of research suggest that valuable and inimitable resources and capabilities are the primary sources of superior performance and sustained competitive advantage (Barney, 1991; Wernerfelt, 1984), while more recent contributions suggest that the ability to change and re-configure resources and capabilities (dynamic capabilities) are the most important for performance, especially when the market is unstable (Teece, 2014; Teece, Pisano & Shuen, 1997). It has also been argued that firms may utilize their resources and capabilities through the development of innovations in the form of new products, services or processes (Hill, Brandeau, Truelove & Lineback, 2015), and empirical research has confirmed that there is a positive relationship between the implementation of innovation activities and the future performance of firms (Bowen, Rostami & Steel, 2010; Rubera & Kirca, 2012). However, innovation as a phenomenon entails change, as opposed to resources and capabilities that represents a firm’s ability to reproduce a certain performance – and as such involves stability. Viewed in this way the very term innovation capability can constitute an oxymoron. The study of innovation capabilities is therefore a complex field of study that is emerging. The topic has already attracted interest from a number of scholars (e.g. Forsman, 2011; Guan & Ma, 2003; Hertog, van der Aa & de Jong, 2010; Wang, Lu & Chen, 2008; Yam, Lo, Tang & Lau, 2011), but despite these important advances there is still a lack of consensus in the literature and a pressing need to clarify what type of resources and capabilities drive innovation in different contexts (Lidija & Robert, 2014), and how these capabilities are developed and utilized (Helfat & Peteraf, 2003).

Book Accelerating Global Supply Chains with IT Innovation

Download or read book Accelerating Global Supply Chains with IT Innovation written by Yao-Hua Tan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-22 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the major challenges for European governments is to solve the dilemma of increasing the security and reducing fraud in international trade, while at the same time reducing the administrative burden for commercial as well as public administration organisations. To address these conflicting demands, the ITAIDE project has developed a large set of innovative IT-related tools and methods that enable companies to be better in control of their business operations. These tools and methods have been integrated in the ITAIDE Information Infrastructure (I3) framework. By using the I3 framework, companies are better positioned to apply for the Trusted Trader status, and enjoy trade facilitation benefits such as simplified customs procedures and fewer inspections of their goods. Hence, the I3 framework can contribute to making global supply chains faster, cheaper, and more secure. The I3 framework has been tested and validated in five real-life Living Labs, spanning four different sectors of industry, and conducted in five different EU countries. National Tax & Customs organizations from various European countries have actively participated in the Living Labs. The United Nations CEFACT group, experts from the World Customs Organization and representatives of key industry associations have also provided valuable feedback and ideas for the Living Labs and the project in general. www.itaide.org

Book The Silicon Valley Model

Download or read book The Silicon Valley Model written by Annika Steiber and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024-01-15 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of The Silicon Valley Model, published in 2016, addresses the need for a fundamentally new approach to managing and developing large firms with an emphasis on entrepreneurship. This second edition validates, extends, and updates these original findings. While still encompassing the observations and analysis featured in the first edition, this new edition addresses new developments in management and in the global business environment. Further, it presents Dr. Steiber’s research identifying more companies in Asia, Europe, and the USA that are implementing management approaches that parallels the Silicon Valley Model, and in some respects, advanced upon it. New material, appearing mainly in the “Recent Developments” sections in each chapter, includes both real-life events and new research findings related to the management principles for entrepreneurship. In some cases, elements of innovation and development of the Silicon Valley Model have taken new forms in response to changing times or the desires of the companies involved. The Silicon Valley Model, Second Edition is beneficial to executives from the board and CEO level on down, consultants, researchers, and others who study or work with new developments in management.
