Book Please Lord Spare Me the Full Moon

Download or read book Please Lord Spare Me the Full Moon written by Deborah Hendricks Pierce and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2009-08-13 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I began teaching in the early seventies, I knew I was in it for the long haul. I knew this was my career, my calling, the fulfillment of a childhood dream. From as far back as my memory will take me, I had a longing to be a teacher. It never entered my mind to spend my life in any other way than in front of a classroom. This was cemented with I entered the first grade and loved my teacher so much I wanted to be just like her. Im sure I lost no time telling this teacher what I wanted to be when I grew up. So she gave me little opportunities to practice teaching. When someone couldnt tie his shoes, she would ask me to teach him how. If a student was struggling, shed place me beside him to help. I was so proud! Any opportunity to teach was just taking me one inch nearer my destination. As I progressed through my school years, being assigned to help one of the slower students was an honor for me. I was fortunate that those were the years teachers were absolutely dedicated to their calling and to their students. Those were the days when teaching was one of the few professions women could enter. And to get there usually meant someone was sacrificing for them to attend school. Completing their education was a culmination of hard work and determination. Teachers were respected and highly regarded by the public. All that combined, produced good teachers who were extremely proud to stand before children and be the planters of knowledge. As a child, to be like any one of them was my burning desire. Never losing sight of my goal, I progressed through the grades. I may not have been the most academic kid on the block, but I was responsible. Teachers entrusted me with duties, jobs, and tutoring. In twelfth grade I was put in charge of a study hall! Upon graduation, I was one step closer to being a teacher. I finished college early, and finally was a teacher. From the beginning of my days in the classroom, I wrote down funny things kids would say and do, because I just didnt want to forget them. As I moved from pre-school to kindergarten, then middle or high school, I had quite a treasure trove. After retiring, I reflected upon my time in the classroom and decided maybe my friends were right in telling me I should write a book. I knew it would be fun to share my stories and experiences. From time to time, I would get out my old brown tattered notebook and write. And as I got older and older, I decided if I am going to ever write a book, I need to get moving. I knew Id rather write it myself, than to die and have someone run across my notebook and try to write my story. Thus, a book was born! I delight in telling my story. Some pages will make you cry. Others will make you laugh. I dont begin to pretend I was the perfect teacher. This book does not allude to that. It paints a portrait of the inner workings of a classroom in todays world. It conveys the fact that when teaching children with special needs, subject matter sometimes takes a back seat. They came to us with such baggage. When I stop and think about the troubles those children carried on their shoulders, I marvel at how they managed to rise in the mornings and get to school. As teachers, we had to look beyond the language and behavior in order to help these people. Our role as teachers extended way beyond our training. These were not the children of yesteryear. Most of them were products of drug-ridden homes and streets, absentee parents, video games, violence on television and movies, and absolute poverty. These influences rode on the bus with them and traveled right into the classroom where we were expected to teach, counsel, and police. That may not have been the teaching of my childhood dreams, but somehow I saw the need to know what my priorities had to be each and every day. Given all the things I saw, heard, and dealt with, I dont believe I could ever have returned to a regular classroom. It woul

Blood Brothers: A Liverpudlian West Side Story, this is the story of twin brothers separated at birth because their mother cannot afford to keep them both. Book Shirley Valentine One For The Road

Download or read book Shirley Valentine One For The Road written by Willy Russell and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2014-01-08 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shirley Valentine, 42-year-old put-upon mother and housewife, leaves the drudgery of cooking dinner for her husband, packs her bags and heads for the sun. The note on the kitchen table reads "Gone to Greece back in two weeks." "It is a simple and brilliant idea...the profound and perennial point of the comedy is the problem we seem to have contemplating the idea of a woman alone - in a pub, on a beach, in a restaurant. This is what Shirley learns to combat as she unravels her own sexual and social identity. The play is not only funny, it is also moving." (Michael Coveney, Financial Times) One for the Road "starts...with the mid-life hero torn between the security of married life in a dormer bungalow on a northern housing estate and dreams of being a rucksacked super-tramp. Mr Russell writes with knowledgeable venom about a world where Beethoven Underpass leads to Wagner Walkway and where anyone who doesn't join Weight Watchers or the Ramblers Club is regarded as a social deviant." (Francis King, Sunday Telegraph)

Based on autobiographies of the Reagan family, Cabinet, and White House Staff, the 650-page book includes a 250-page epilog of documentation and a 50-pg researchers' index, footnotes, and an extensive appendix including charts from: Staff Report, Committee on Banking, Currency & Housing, House of Representatives, 94th Congress, 2d session, Aug. 1976 -- Federal Reserve Directors, a Study of Corporate & Banking Influence. The charts trace from 1913 to present the family dynasties of the private owners and interlocking directorate of the Federal Reserve Bank and other G-8 central banks (the World Order and New World Order) whom Bill Casey, George Shultz, the Bushes, bin Ladens, Thyssens, Rockefellers, Rothschilds, Browns, Harrimans and Reinhard Gehlen worked for and against whose family ancestors the American Revolution was fought and whose family decendents today continue to dominate the financial, political, economic, and bailout and foreclosure landscape with financial terrorism. Additionally, the historical novel follows the family dynasties of the private owners of the interlocking directorate of the Fed/G8 including Bank of England and Bundesbank and other central banks involved in the American Revolution of 1776, the American Civil War, the depressions in the late 1800s and early 1900s, the founding of the privately owned Federal Reserve Bank in 1913, WWI, the financing of the Bolshevik party from New York and thru Ruskombank which supplied U.S. technology and weapons and military vehicles to communist Russia who supplied them to the Viet Cong to kill Americans. Appendices also document the previously hypothesized money-issuing class that prints and owns our money that rules the upper class, middle class, working class, and unemployed classes. The appendix also includes documentation of the Clinton-era involvement with HUD corruption when Bill was Governor and Hillary was a HUD attorney. HUD sold billions of dollars of foreclosed properties in East L.A. at ten cents on the dollar to the Fed-founded Dillion-Read bank. Ronnie was advised about the marriage of the oil and illegal drug industries, and the case by the European Union and Central and South American countries against Reynolds Tobacco for laundering heroin and cocaine profits with Camel Cigarettes.

Book Phaedra Cooper and the Half Boy

Download or read book Phaedra Cooper and the Half Boy written by Paul Drisgula and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2020-04-21 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1962, Mother Earth sent fourteen-year-old Xander Gadeski to a small village in Upstate New York to uncover the truth behind the suspicious death of a Seneca girl, Pretty Flower. At least, that's what Pretty's girlfriend, Phaedra Cooper, comes to believe when she meets the minor seminarian at Pretty's grave. She notices an odd connection between Xander and Skagedi, an ancient Seneca legend, who used an array of unusual powers, including splitting himself in half, to defeat evildoers. The relationship between this naive boy, sheltered by a close Polish Catholic family, and a girl nurtured by her Seneca culture yet isolated on the fringe of white entitlement and intolerance forms the heart of the story in Paul Drisgula's debut coming-of-age mystery novel. Xander is an unlikely and unwilling recruit to Phaedra's cause. His father, Stary, just died. His immature brain still can't wrap itself around God letting the Dodgers slip out of Brooklyn. Before meeting Phaedra, he is bullied continually and suffers a vicious sexual assault at his new school. The supernatural and natural worlds flow together like hot and cold from a tap as Phaedra and Xander forge an uneasy alliance to disprove the findings of the village police that Pretty's death was a suicide. Phaedra suspects boys from Xander's school murdered the love of her life. Pretty Flower communicates with the two amateur detectives through dreams as they forge a dangerous plan climaxing in an outdoor trial on the bridge where death found Pretty Flower and where Xander must use his new powers if he's to avoid a similar fate. In Drisgula's novel, Xander tells his own story, often with a lighter touch, softening some of its harsher themes by unmasking the dark humor skulking in the shadows behind forbidden sex, bullying, death, rape, murder, and sin.
