This book was released on 1964 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twelve papers are presented on the problems of space simulation. Following an introduction (1), the topics duscussed include: (2) the over-all problem of the design and operation of space chambers, (3) the parameters to be considered in simulating a space environment, (4) the simulation of thermal radiation and (5) the heat-sink effect of space, (6) the various types of vacuum pumps, (7) the technique of 'cryopumping', (8) the analysis of the vibrations encountered in space flight, (9) a general program for the detection of leaks, (10) the state-of-the-art of the instrumentation of space chambers, (11) the status of a space-environment simulation chamber in which manned spacecraft will be tested, and (12) the system design of space simulation chambers. This book was released on 1965 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The program encompassed an analytical and experimental investigation of the application of passive thermal control techniques to extravehicular flexible space garments in 300 nautical mile earth orbits. Results indicate that passive thermal control by varying the absorptance and emittance of the outer surface of the garment is not possible when internal heat generated is in excess of 1500 Btu/hr. For all conditions, the suit's solar absorptance should be as small as possible and its emittance as large as possible. By controlling the conductance of the space suit wall, internal heating rates to 2000 Btu/hr are achievable when the space suit has an absorptance of 0.17 and an emittance of 0.85. A solar parasol with selected radiating properties on each side allows for higher internal heating rates. Experiments were made in a simulated noon orbit with a cylindrical section of a space suit which was first tested with an evacuated insulation and then with a helium-fillable insulation. The range of average conductance for these insulations was 0.3 to 4.0 Btu/sq ft hr F.A range of internal heat generation from 600 to 2100 Btu/hr was achieved when the evacuated insulation was filled with helium.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Market: Those involved in vacuum technology and complex vacuum facilities. While specific projects have changed in the 30 years since this book was first published, the need for large complex vacuum facilities has not. And despite new developments in pumping, measurement, and outgassing, this book will remain for many years to come the standard of practical vacuum operation.
Download or read book Design Methodologies for Space Transportation Systems written by Walter Edward Hammond and published by AIAA. This book was released on 2001 with total page 906 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation "Design Methodologies for Space Transportation Systems is a sequel to the author's earlier text, "Space Transportation: A Systems Approach to Analysis and Design. Both texts represent the most comprehensive exposition of the existing knowledge and practice in the design and project management of space transportation systems, and they reflect a wealth of experience by the author with the design and management of space systems. The text discusses new conceptual changes in the design philosophy away from multistage expendable vehicles to winged, reusable launch vehicles and presents an overview of the systems engineering and vehicle design process as well as systems trades and analysis. Individual chapters are devoted to specific disciplines such as aerodynamics, aerothermal analysis, structures, materials, propulsion, flight mechanics and trajectories, avionics and computers, and control systems. The final chapters deal with human factors, payload, launch and mission operations, safety, and mission assurance. The two texts by the author provide a valuable source of information for the space transportation community of designers, operators, and managers. A companion CD-ROM succinctly packages some oversized figures and tables, resources for systems engineering and launch ranges, and a compendium of software programs. The computer programs include the USAF AIRPLANE AND MISSILE DATCOM CODES (with extensive documentation); COSTMODL for software costing; OPGUID launch vehicle trajectory generator; SUPERFLO-a series of 11 programs intended for solving compressible flow problems in ducts and pipes found in industrial facilities; and a wealth of Microsoft Excel spreadsheet programs covering thedisciplines of statistics, vehicle trajectories, propulsion performance, math utilities,

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1965 Transactions of the Third International Vacuum Congress, Volume 1: Invited Papers is the first of two-volumes that review the state of knowledge in vacuum technology. The present volume comprises the opening address by Prof Auwárter and the twelve comprehensive main lectures. In keeping with the purpose of an international congress, the organizers took great pains to ensure that the choice of topics for the main lectures not only covered the scientific fundamentals as a whole, but also gave appropriate consideration to the technical applications. An analysis of the submitted topics shows that the strong points of research and development lie in the fields of ""Coating and Thin Layers"", ""Adsorption and Desorption,"" and ""Pressure Measurement and Leak Detection"". In the fields of application, ""Vacuum Metallurgy"" ranks highly. The papers published in the transactions originate from many European and overseas countries, proof that vacuum science is not only keenly pursued in all major industrial countries, but also that the new organizational form of the IUVSTA is capable of winning the services of all these countries for fruitful international cooperation in the vacuum field.
