This book was released on 2019-01-16 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document establishes the structural requirements for human-rated spaceflight hardware including launch vehicles, spacecraft and payloads. These requirements are applicable to Government Furnished Equipment activities as well as all related contractor, subcontractor and commercial efforts. These requirements are not imposed on systems other than human-rated spacecraft, such as ground test articles, but may be tailored for use in specific cases where it is prudent to do so such as for personnel safety or when assets are at risk. The requirements in this document are focused on design rather than verification. Implementation of the requirements is expected to be described in a Structural Verification Plan (SVP), which should describe the verification of each structural item for the applicable requirements. Book Structural Design and Test Factors of Safety for Spaceflight Hardware

Download or read book Structural Design and Test Factors of Safety for Spaceflight Hardware written by NASA and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-02 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural Design and Test Factors of Safety for Spaceflight Hardware NASA-STD-5001B We print NASA's handbooks and standards for the convenience of those that use them on a daily basis. We print all of these a full 8 1/2 by 11 with large text so they are easy to read. Yes, color books are expensive to print so unless the information relies on the use of color for proper interpretation or understanding, we print most books in black and white to keep the cost down. All these documents are available for download for free from NASA, however printing them all over a network printer would take days. Why buy a book you can download free? We print this so you don't have to. All these books are available for free download from the government web site. Some are available only in electronic media. Some online docs are missing pages or barely legible. We at 4th Watch Publishing are former government employees, so we know how government employees actually use the standards. When a new standard is released, an engineer prints it out, punches holes and puts it in a 3-ring binder. While this is not a big deal for a 5 or 10-page document, many NIST documents are over 100 pages and printing a large document is a time- consuming effort. So, an engineer that's paid $75 an hour is spending hours simply printing out the tools needed to do the job. That's time that could be better spent doing engineering. We publish these documents so engineers can focus on what they were hired to do - engineering. It's much more cost-effective to just order the latest version from Amazon.com If there is a standard you would like published, let us know. Our web site is www.usgovpub.com

Book Safety Design for Space Systems

Download or read book Safety Design for Space Systems written by Tommaso Sgobba and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-07-25 with total page 1190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lack of widespread education in space safety engineering and management has profound effects on project team effectiveness in integrating safety during design. On one side, it slows down the professional development of junior safety engineers, while on the other side it creates a sectarian attitude that isolates safety engineers from the rest of the project team. To speed up professional development, bridge the gap within the team, and prevent hampered communication and missed feedback, the entire project team needs to acquire and develop a shared culture of space safety principles and techniques. The second edition of Safety Design for Space Systems continues to address these issues with substantial updates to chapters such as battery safety, life support systems, robotic systems safety, and fire safety. This book also features new chapters on crew survivability design and nuclear space systems safety. Finally, the discussion of human rating concepts, safety-by-design principles, and safety management practices have also been revised and improved. With contributions from leading experts worldwide, this second edition represents an essential educational resource and reference tool for engineers and managers working on space projects. Provides basic multidisciplinary knowledge on space systems safety design Addresses how space safety engineering and management can be implemented in practice Includes new chapters on crew survivability design and nuclear space systems safety Fully revised and updated to reflect the latest developments in the field

Book Simulation of Thermoelastic Behaviour of Spacecraft Structures

Download or read book Simulation of Thermoelastic Behaviour of Spacecraft Structures written by Simon Appel and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-08-31 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides recommendations for thermal and structural modelling of spacecraft structures for predicting thermoelastic responses. It touches upon the related aspects of the finite element and thermal lumped parameter method. A mix of theoretical and practical examples supports the modelling guidelines. Starting from the system needs of instruments of spacecraft, the reader is supported with the development of the practical requirements for the joint development of the thermal and structural models. It provides points of attention and suggestions to check the quality of the models. The temperature mapping problem, typical for spacecraft thermoelastic analysis, is addressed. The principles of various temperature mapping methods are presented. The prescribed average temperature method, co-developed by the authors, is discussed in detail together with its spin-off to provide high quality conductors for thermal models. The book concludes with the discussion of the application of uncertainty assessment methods. The thermoelastic analysis chain is computationally expensive. Therefore, the 2k+1 point estimate method of Rosenblueth is presented as an alternative for the Monte Carlo Simuation method, bringing stochastic uncertainty analysis in reach for large thermoelastic problems.

Download or read book NASA System Safety Handbook written by Homayoon Dezfuli and published by . This book was released on 2012-02-27 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: System safety is the application of engineering and management principles, criteria, and techniques to optimize safety within the constraints of operational effectiveness, time, and cost throughout all phases of the system life cycle. System safety is to safety as systems engineering is to engineering. When performing appropriate analysis, the evaluation is performed holistically by tying into systems engineering practices and ensuring that system safety has an integrated system-level perspective. The NASA System Safety Handbook presents the overall framework for System Safety and provides the general concepts needed to implement the framework. The treatment addresses activities throughout the system life cycle to assure that the system meets safety performance requirements and is as safe as reasonably practicable. This handbook is intended for project management and engineering teams and for those with review and oversight responsibilities. It can be used both in a forward-thinking mode to promote the development of safe systems, and in a retrospective mode to determine whether desired safety objectives have been achieved. The topics covered in this volume include general approaches for formulating a hierarchy of safety objectives, generating a corresponding hierarchical set of safety claims, characterizing the system safety activities needed to provide supporting evidence, and presenting a risk-informed safety case that validates the claims. Volume 2, to be completed in 2012, will provide specific guidance on the conduct of the major system safety activities and the development of the evidence.

The NASA Space Flight Program and Project Management Handbook (NASA/SP-2014-3705) is the companion document to NPR 7120.5E and represents the accumulation of knowledge NASA gleaned on managing program and projects coming out of NASA's human, robotic, and scientific missions of the last decade. At the end of the historic Shuttle program, the United States entered a new era that includes commercial missions to low-earth orbit as well as new multi-national exploration missions deeper into space. This handbook is a codification of the "corporate knowledge" for existing and future NASA space flight programs and projects. These practices have evolved as a function of NASA's core values on safety, integrity, team work, and excellence, and may also prove a resource for other agencies, the private sector, and academia. The knowledge gained from the victories and defeats of that era, including the checks and balances and initiatives to better control cost and risk, provides a foundation to launch us into an exciting and healthy space program of the future.
