Du cote du midi, le Liban s'abaisse graduellement jusqu'au cap avance de Saide, autrefois Sidon; ses cimes ne por tent plus de neige que ca et la, sur deux ou trois cimes plus eloignees et plus elevees que les autres et que le reste de la chaine libanienne elles suivent, comme une mu raille de ville ruinee, tantot s'elevant, tantot s'abaissant, la ligne de la plaine et de la mer, et vont mourir dans la vapeur de l'occident, vers les montagnes de la Galilee, aux bords de la mer de Genesareth, autrement le lac de Tiberiade. Du cote du nord, vous apercevez un coin de la mer qui s'avance, comme un lac dormant, dans la plaine, cachee a demi par les verts massifs de la ravis sante colline de san-dimitri, la plus belle colline de lu.
