En effet, le " secret " que la Vierge aurait confié aux enfants était brûlant, tant sur le plan politique qu'en ce qui concernait la hiérarchie religieuse. La Salette devint donc rapidement l'enjeu d'un conflit entre traditionalistes et progressistes, compliqué par l'intervention d'écrivains aussi exaltés que Léon Bloy.
