Download or read book Geothermal Power Plants Around the World A Sourcebook on the Production of Electricity from Geothermal Energy Draft of written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report constitutes a consolidation and a condensation of several individual topical reports dealing with the geothermal electric power stations around the world. An introduction is given to various types of energy conversion systems for use with geothermal resouces. Power plant performance and operating factors are defined and discussed. Existing geothermal plants in the following countries are covered: China, El Salvador, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, the Philippines, Turkey, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and the United States. In each case, the geological setting is outlined, the geothermal fluid characteristics are given, the gathering system, energy conversion system, and fluid disposal method are described, and the environmental impact is discussed. In some cases the economics of power generation are also presented. Plans for future usage of geothermal energy are described for the above-mentioned countries and the following additional ones: the Azores (Portugal), Chile, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya, Nicaragua, and Panama. Technical data is presented in twenty-two tables; forty-one figures, including eleven photographs, are also included to illustrate the text. A comprehensive list of references is provided for the reader who wishes to make an in-depth study of any of the topics mentioned.

Download or read book Sourcebook on the Production of Electricity from Geothermal Energy Chapter 2 draft Resource Characteristics written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is a preliminary version of material assembled for insertion in the Sourcebook on the Production of Electricity from Geothermal Energy currently being composed under ERDA (now DOE). An attempt has been made to develop the theory of the geothermal well in an ordered stepwise manner beginning from the three basic continuities and introducing each new idea systematically. A formal textbook approach is used.

Download or read book Geothermal Energy written by Elizabeth Lachner and published by Britannica Educational Publishing. This book was released on 2018-12-15 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many people associate geothermal energy with watching dramatic geyser eruptions or relaxing in a steaming natural hot spring. However, heat from within the Earth can also be used to generate electricity and heat buildings. Readers learn about the past, present, and future of geothermal power through this informative book. Topics covered include how geothermal heat is created and brought up to Earth's surface, the surface features, such as lava flows, hot springs, geysers, and fumaroles, that are signs of it, and how geothermal heat pumps and geothermal power plants work. The need for renewable energy sources such as geothermal energy is addressed, as is the need to manage geothermal resources sustainably.

Book Powering Our Future

Download or read book Powering Our Future written by Alternative Energy Institute and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With nearly all of the world's energy consumption dependent on non-renewable resources, Powering Our Future challenges consumers to support changes that will create sustainable energy in the future. The four biggest energy sources--oil, natural gas, coal, and uranium--currently power our earth. What would happen to our society if we experienced severe shortages of one or more of these resources? Such a glimpse into the future may become reality sooner than we think. Oil production is soon expected to begin a rapid descent, with natural gas in close pursuit. Powering Our Future is an educational tool that opens the door to a future fueled by sustainable, renewable energy. Consumers will learn: - How our world has become dependent on four nonrenewable resources. - How each resource impacts us politically, economically, and environmentally. - How renewable resources such as hydrogen, fuel cells, wind power, solar energy, hydropower, and more are waiting in the wings. - How the transition to renewable resources will take place, offering economically stable and environmentally safe choices. Powering Our Future is a solution-oriented guide that will empower you to make more informed choices as a voter, a contributor to a global economy, and a citizen of the earth.

Book Perspectives For Geothermal Energy In Europe

Download or read book Perspectives For Geothermal Energy In Europe written by Ruggero Bertani and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2017-03-24 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The potential for energy transformation from geothermal heat is limitless. For millennia natural sources of this energy, in the form of thermal springs, have been used by populations for heating, cooking and bathing. Modern-day usage has been extended to electricity generation from binary cycle power plants, heat extraction from geothermal heat pumps and use in greenhouses for industrial crop growing. Perspectives for Geothermal Energy in Europe highlights the status of geothermal energy in countries where natural sources of this energy are available. It concludes with a presentation of current geothermal policy and regulations within Europe, and discussion of how this fits in with the EU Energy and Climate Framework.Suitable for students, academics and practitioners in the fields of energy studies, geology and the earth sciences, electrical engineering and environmental economics, this book is the first comprehensive review of the practicalities of geothermal extraction and use in Europe.
