Book Sorption Properties of Sediments and Energy Related Pollutants Classic Reprint

Download or read book Sorption Properties of Sediments and Energy Related Pollutants Classic Reprint written by John J. Hassett and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-12 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Sorption Properties of Sediments and Energy-Related Pollutants Environmental protection efforts are increasingly directed towards prevention of adverse health and ecological effects associated with specific compounds of natural or human origin. As part of this Laboratory's research on the occurrence, movement, transformation, impact, and control of environ mental contaminants, the Environmental Processes Branch studies the micro biological, chemical, and physico - chemical processes that control the trans port, transformation, and impact of pollutants in soil and water. Efforts to achieve our national goal of energy independence will require increasing use of our country's vast domestic coal reserves. The combustion of coal or its conversion to a gaseous or liquid fuel, however, can release numerous organic compounds that are potentially toxic, carcinogenic, or muta genic. This report examines the sorption properties of several energy - rela ted pollutants ou sediments. Information on these properties is needed to predict the movement of the compounds in aquatic systems so that potential environmental problems can be anticipated. Book Sorption Properties of Sediments and Energy Related Pollutants

Download or read book Sorption Properties of Sediments and Energy Related Pollutants written by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and published by BiblioGov. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was introduced on December 2, 1970 by President Richard Nixon. The agency is charged with protecting human health and the environment, by writing and enforcing regulations based on laws passed by Congress. The EPA's struggle to protect health and the environment is seen through each of its official publications. These publications outline new policies, detail problems with enforcing laws, document the need for new legislation, and describe new tactics to use to solve these issues. This collection of publications ranges from historic documents to reports released in the new millennium, and features works like: Bicycle for a Better Environment, Health Effects of Increasing Sulfur Oxides Emissions Draft, and Women and Environmental Health.

Book Contaminants in Terrestrial Environments

Download or read book Contaminants in Terrestrial Environments written by Otto Fränzle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Defining ecology as a system-theory oriented synthesis of both earth and life sciences, the book aims at a novel co- herent understanding of chemicalimpact on the lower at- mosphere and characteristic types of terrestrial ecosystems. To this end comprehensive flux-analytical and hierarchical modelling approaches were developed and consulted, which in- clude a thorough consideration of the specific physical and geographic boundary conditions of the processes involved. The first part is devoted to fundamentals of environmental chemistry and ecology, while the second deals with the com- plex atmospheric pathways of anthropogenic chemicals. In the last part, the manifold interactions of these compounds or their metabolites with the soil-vegetation complex of eco- systems are described. Chapters on pollutant impact on mate- rials and a review of chemical fate modelling are included. Thus scientists and practitioners facing ecological projects may expect to obtain a deeper insight into landscape ecology from the impact point of view owing to the concise presenta- tion of complex mechanisms and the generalized modelling ap- proach.

Download or read book Remediation Engineering written by Suthan S. Suthersan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1996-10-24 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many cases, the application of in situ technologies evolved as a necessity from a cost perspective. However, the basic understanding of the mechanisms and theory behind these technologies was treated as a "black box." Although we have seen some tremendous successes in the application of remediation technologies over the past several years, we have also seen many cases in which a technology has been incorrectly or inappropriately applied. In most cases, this misapplication has been the result of a poor understanding of the basic concepts and mechanisms behind the technologies. Without proper understanding, the potential for misapplication of technologies remains a serious economic and technical threat.

Book Environmental Chemicals Desk Reference

Download or read book Environmental Chemicals Desk Reference written by John H. Montgomery and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-09-01 with total page 2616 pages.
