Book The Art of Song A Master of Music Collection of Original Songs and Their Recordings

Download or read book The Art of Song A Master of Music Collection of Original Songs and Their Recordings written by Kelly Nicole Jones and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The art of songwriting is a mysterious thing. Why some songs consistently inspire great emotion and others fade into a sea of ambiguity is difficult to understand. Scholars have tried to lift the veil by summarizing the common qualities of hit songs through the years, but hit songs come in all shapes and sizes from "Maybellene" to "Fire and Rain." In my study and experience, a great song can be built with three things: 1) An original idea, 2) a memorable melody and 3) persistent, hard work to get it right. If these things are present from the start, one will begin to feel less like a wandering stranger and more like Sherlock Holmes. For my final project, I will write and record 10 new songs (music and lyrics) exploring varying subgenres of Pop. In the process, I will document my work methods, challenges and found solutions and choose an appropriate producer as a collaborator. Together we will determine the arrangement style that will best support the songs. Some additional factors that will be considered throughout the process are: song form, lyrical vitality and clarity, strength and memorability of melody, and harmonic support. My hope for this body of work and the submission of my final project is to present a collection of timeless songs that, with accompanying documentation, may provide inspiration and a map of sorts for other working songwriters. The art of songwriting will always be a mystery, but with a little attention we might find some clues to help us along the way.
