Book Things I ve Said to My Children

Download or read book Things I ve Said to My Children written by Nathan Ripperger and published by Ten Speed Press. This book was released on 2015-09-15 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An illustrated gift book that brings to life the universal parenting experience of saying strange and hilarious things to one's kids. As the father of five boys (all under age 10), graphic designer Nathan Ripperger has found himself saying some rather funny, absurd, and downright bizarre things to his children, from "Stop riding that penguin, we're leaving" to "I am NOT talking to you until you are wearing underwear." He created poster-like images for each and posted them online. The response from other parents was overwhelming. With Things I've Said to My Children, Ripperger has assembled around 80 of the funniest, weirdest, and most amusing sayings and paired them with full-color, designed images that bring these outrageously hysterical quotes to life. Covering the essential parenting topics like food, animals, don'ts, and of course, bodily functions, Things I've Said to My Children is a light-hearted illustrated reminder of the shared absurdity of parenthood. Especially for those parents who've ever found themselves uttering some variation of the line, "Please don't eat the goldfish crackers you've put in your butt."

Book The New Better Off

Download or read book The New Better Off written by Courtney E. Martin and published by Seal Press. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are we living the good life—and what defines 'good', anyway? Americans today are constructing a completely different framework for success than their parents' generation, using new metrics that TEDWomen speaker and columnist Courtney Martin has termed collectively the "New Better Off". The New Better Offputs a name to the American phenomenon of rejecting the traditional dream of a 9-to-5 job, home ownership, and a nuclear family structure, illuminating the alternate ways Americans are seeking happiness and success. Including commentary on recent changes in how we view work, customs and community, marriage, rituals, money, living arrangements, and spirituality, The New Better Off uses personal stories and social analysis to explore the trends shaping our country today. Martin covers growing topics such as freelancing, collaborative consumption, communal living, and the breaking down of gender roles. The New Better Offis about the creative choices individuals are making in their vocational and personal lives, but it's also about the movements, formal and informal, that are coalescing around the "New Better Off" idea-people who are reinventing the social safety net and figuring out how to truly better their own communities.

Book Regretting Motherhood

Download or read book Regretting Motherhood written by Orna Donath and published by North Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2017-07-11 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A provocative and deeply important study of women’s lives, women’s choices—and an ‘unspoken taboo’—that questions the societal pressures forcing women into motherhood Women who opt not to be mothers are frequently warned that they will regret their decision later in life, yet we rarely talk about the possibility that the opposite might also be true—that women who have children might regret it. Drawing on years of research interviewing women from a variety of socioeconomic, educational, and professional backgrounds, sociologist Orna Donath treats regret as a feminist issue: as regret marks the road not taken, we need to consider whether alternative paths for women currently are blocked off. She asks that we pay attention to what is forbidden by rules governing motherhood, time, and emotion, including the cultural assumption that motherhood is a “natural” role for women—for the sake of all women, not just those who regret becoming mothers. If we are disturbed by the idea that a woman might regret becoming a mother, Donath says, our response should not be to silence and shame these women; rather, we need to ask honest and difficult questions about how society pushes women into motherhood and why those who reconsider it are still seen as a danger to the status quo. Groundbreaking, thoughtful, and provocative, this is an especially needed book in our current political climate, as women's reproductive rights continue to be at the forefront of national debates.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reaching across the chasm of his bipolar disorder and separation from his children, Chad shares with us his deepest and most intimate thoughts for his childrens spiritual future. Sometimes using his own experiences to model a lesson and at other times clearly relying on spiritual depths, Chad teaches his children those life lessons that were missing from his life as he grew up, lessons he has learned in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. With an unfathomable love for his children, his teachings range from the simple, such as faith and hope, to the more complex and controversial, such as how Christians and the LGBT community should treat each other and the role of just governments in our lives. Chad leaves almost nothing out with regards to how Christians should behave and what their ultimate relationship to Deity will be if they will hearken to the Gospel. Thoughtfully looking into basic Christian Doctrines and the potential of humanity, To My Children: Love, Dad puts you into a position to explore your own relationship with Deity and encourages you to bring the family along the path to Heaven beginning today.

Book Thoughts for My Children

Download or read book Thoughts for My Children written by Frank Sanders and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-12-07 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My purpose in writing this short book is to share my thoughts with my loved ones, especially the children in my life. I hope these words will be a lasting legacy to my children and grandchildren as they grow up and after I am gone. None of these thoughts are original or insightful. They are simple truths and ideas. But young people seldom take the time to sit down and think about basic things. As people like me get older, we see young people make mistakes or suffer or destroy relationships and friendships over simple and obvious issues. I have often looked back and wished I had made some small things part of my approach much earlier in my life. I still often wish I could impart some time-gathered wisdom to my children and grandchildren to smooth their path, allow them to avoid mistakes, and give them a long-term perspective in this short-term, short-sighted world. This book is my effort to share some of what I have learned. These short chapters are not an exhaustive examination of the topics under discussion. Rather they are straight to the point and simple as a grandfather would make the point to a young person who is not excited about sitting down for a long discussion about "meaning of life" issues with Granddad. I hope the young people who read these words will get the gist. For those who need more depth, hopefully, these words will get the discussion started. I plan to share this book with my grandkids. I hope it will be of interest to them. But just as important, I hope this book will be read and appreciated by many grandparents who love their grandchildren. Maybe my words will give them a chance to have a short discussion with their own loved ones. They can share all or some of the points as they see fit. They can share my thoughts and add to them their own take. If they agree with me, this may be an easy way to share some truth and advice. If they disagree, this will be a good place to begin the conversation. I pray that once the habit of discussion with their grandchildren is established, they can share other thoughts that are important to them. God speed, Frank Sanders
