Download or read book Matrix Completions Moments and Sums of Hermitian Squares written by Mihály Bakonyi and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2011-07-18 with total page 533 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intensive research in matrix completions, moments, and sums of Hermitian squares has yielded a multitude of results in recent decades. This book provides a comprehensive account of this quickly developing area of mathematics and applications and gives complete proofs of many recently solved problems. With MATLAB codes and more than 200 exercises, the book is ideal for a special topics course for graduate or advanced undergraduate students in mathematics or engineering, and will also be a valuable resource for researchers. Often driven by questions from signal processing, control theory, and quantum information, the subject of this book has inspired mathematicians from many subdisciplines, including linear algebra, operator theory, measure theory, and complex function theory. In turn, the applications are being pursued by researchers in areas such as electrical engineering, computer science, and physics. The book is self-contained, has many examples, and for the most part requires only a basic background in undergraduate mathematics, primarily linear algebra and some complex analysis. The book also includes an extensive discussion of the literature, with close to 600 references from books and journals from a wide variety of disciplines.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work initiates a systematic analysis of the representation of real forms of even degree as sums of powers of linear forms and the resulting implications in real algebraic geometry, number theory, combinatorics, functional analysis, and numerical analysis. Download or read book Flat Extensions of Positive Moment Matrices Recursively Generated Relations written by Raúl E. Curto and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the authors develop new computational tests for existence and uniqueness of representing measures $\mu$ in the Truncated Complex Moment Problem: $\gamma {ij}=\int \bar zizj\, d\mu$ $(0\le i+j\le 2n)$. Conditions for the existence of finitely atomic representing measures are expressed in terms of positivity and extension properties of the moment matrix $M(n)(\gamma )$ associated with $\gamma \equiv \gamma {(2n)}$: $\gamma {00}, \dots ,\gamma {0,2n},\dots ,\gamma {2n,0}$, $\gamma {00}>0$. This study includes new conditions for flat (i.e., rank-preserving) extensions $M(n+1)$ of $M(n)\ge 0$; each such extension corresponds to a distinct rank $M(n)$-atomic representing measure, and each such measure is minimal among representing measures in terms of the cardinality of its support. For a natural class of moment matrices satisfying the tests of recursive generation, recursive consistency, and normal consistency, the existence problem for minimal representing measures is reduced to the solubility of small systems of multivariable algebraic equations. In a variety of applications, including cases of the quartic moment problem ($n=2$), the text includes explicit contructions of minimal representing measures via the theory of flat extensions. Additional computational texts are used to prove non-existence of representing measures or the non-existence of minimal representing measures. These tests are used to illustrate, in very concrete terms, new phenomena, associated with higher-dimensional moment problems that do not appear in the classical one-dimensional moment problem.

Download or read book Indefinite Inner Product Spaces Schur Analysis and Differential Equations written by Daniel Alpay and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2018-01-30 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, which is dedicated to Heinz Langer, includes biographical material and carefully selected papers. Heinz Langer has made fundamental contributions to operator theory. In particular, he has studied the domains of operator pencils and nonlinear eigenvalue problems, the theory of indefinite inner product spaces, operator theory in Pontryagin and Krein spaces, and applications to mathematical physics. His works include studies on and applications of Schur analysis in the indefinite setting, where the factorization theorems put forward by Krein and Langer for generalized Schur functions, and by Dijksma-Langer-Luger-Shondin, play a key role. The contributions in this volume reflect Heinz Langer’s chief research interests and will appeal to a broad readership whose work involves operator theory.
Download or read book Understanding Henri Lefebvre written by Stuart Elden and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2004-03-01 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Henri Lefebvre has been celebrated as one of the most influential social theorists of the twentieth century. Understanding Henri Lefebvre places Lefebvre in his historical and intellectual context and analyzes the extraordinary range of his work, across politics, philosophy, history, literature and culture. Particular emphasis is given to Lefebvre's trilogy of inspirational thinkers—Hegel, Marx and Nietzsche; his links to contemporaries such as Heidegger, Axelos and the Situationalists; and his critiques of existentialism and structuralism. Analysis of his writings on cities are balanced with those on rural communities, the production of space connected to ideas of time and history, and everyday life linked to the festival and cultural revolution. Understanding Henri Lefebvre offers the most wide-ranging and reliable account of this central theorist available.

Based on a novel cartography and on detailed ethnographic and historical explorations, this book systematically analyses the diversity of responses to urgent contemporary urban challenges. It proposes a series of new concepts that allow us to assess the practical consequences of different urban strategies in everyday life. Essential book on urbanism New evaluation models for urbanisation processes Comprehensive analyses and illustrations of the urban patterns of international metropolises Comparison of urbanisation processes in eight metropolises around the world
Download or read book Probability Theory and Statistical Inference written by Aris Spanos and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2019-09-19 with total page 787 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Doubt over the trustworthiness of published empirical results is not unwarranted and is often a result of statistical mis-specification: invalid probabilistic assumptions imposed on data. Now in its second edition, this bestselling textbook offers a comprehensive course in empirical research methods, teaching the probabilistic and statistical foundations that enable the specification and validation of statistical models, providing the basis for an informed implementation of statistical procedure to secure the trustworthiness of evidence. Each chapter has been thoroughly updated, accounting for developments in the field and the author's own research. The comprehensive scope of the textbook has been expanded by the addition of a new chapter on the Linear Regression and related statistical models. This new edition is now more accessible to students of disciplines beyond economics and includes more pedagogical features, with an increased number of examples as well as review questions and exercises at the end of each chapter.
