Book Some Practical Considerations of Coherence Estimation

Download or read book Some Practical Considerations of Coherence Estimation written by G. C. Carter and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given two processes the complex coherence spectrum is the complex cross spectral density function divided by the square root of the product of the two auto spectral density functions. Estimation of coherence in light of the fast Fourier transform (FFT) is investigated for synthetic data. The procedure used is to segment the given finite time histories to NSEG segments of size NNN. Each segment is multiplied by a weighting function (in this case a cosine bell) prior to computation of the FFT. Cross and Auto Spectra are then averaged over the NSEG segments prior to forming the coherence ratio. Practical conclusions drawn are that for non-flat auto spectrum, multiplication by a weighting function is necessary; that NSEG must be on the order of 64; that NNN must be large enough to insure sufficient spectral resolution.

Book Neuropsychological Evaluation of the Child

Download or read book Neuropsychological Evaluation of the Child written by Ida Sue Baron and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2003-10-02 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This essential desk reference will meet the demand for a broad and convenient collection of normative data in child neuropsychology. In a clearly written, well-organized manner, it compiles published and previously unpublished normative data for the neuropsychological tests that are most commonly used with children. Far from being a raw collection, however, it integrates concepts and models central to the neuropsychological assessment of children into the discussions of data. All these discussions have a practical, clinical focus. As background, the author considers the current status of child neuropsychology practice, test models, behavioral assessment techniques, observational data, procedures to optimize child evaluation, communication of results through the interpretive session and report writing, and preliminary assessment methods. Then she reviews the tests and data under the broad domains of intelligence, executive function, attention, language, motor and sensory-perceptual function, visuoperceptual, visuospatial and visuoconstructional function, and learning and memory. Written by a seasoned practitioner, this book will be an extraordinary resource for child and developmental neuropsychologists, clinical psychologists, child neurologists, and their students and trainees.

Book Epidemiology

    Book Details:
  • Author : Klaus Krickeberg
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2019-07-10
  • ISBN : 3030163687
  • Pages : 264 pages

Download or read book Epidemiology written by Klaus Krickeberg and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-10 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique textbook presents the field of modern epidemiology as a whole; it does not restrict itself to particular aspects. It stresses the fundamental ideas and their role in any situation of epidemiologic practice. Its structure is largely determined by didactic viewpoints. Epidemiology is the art of defining and investigating the influence of factors on the health of populations. Hence the book starts by sketching the role of epidemiology in public health. It then treats the epidemiology of many particular diseases; mathematical modelling of epidemics and immunity; health information systems; statistical methods and sample surveys; clinical epidemiology including clinical trials; nutritional, environmental, social, and genetic epidemiology; and the habitual tools of epidemiologic studies. The book also reexamines the basic difference between the epidemiology of infectious diseases and that of non-infectious ones. The organization of the topics by didactic aspects makes the book ideal for teaching. All examples and case studies are situated in a single country, namely Vietnam; this provides a particularly vivid picture of the role of epidemiology in shaping the health of a population. It can easily be adapted to other developing or transitioning countries. This volume is well suited for courses on epidemiology and public health at the upper undergraduate and graduate levels, while its specific examples make it appropriate for those who teach these fields in developing or emerging countries. New to this edition, in addition to minor revisions of almost all chapters: • Updated data about infectious and non-infectious diseases • An expanded discussion of genetic epidemiology • A new chapter, based on recent research of the authors, on how to build a coherent system of Public Health by using the insights provided by this volume.

Book Trends in Substance Abuse Research

Download or read book Trends in Substance Abuse Research written by Cailin R. McKenna and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Substance abuse is one of society's most serious problems. Drugs seem to be readily available even in elementary schools, which attests to the success of the drug purveyors and the failure of law enforcement officials, education administrators and parents. As an example, in the U.S. in 2003, there were nearly 1.7 million admissions to publicly funded substance abuse treatment programs. Most admissions (23.2 percent) were for alcohol treatment. Marijuana accounted for the largest percentage of illicit drug admissions (15.4 percent), followed by heroin (14.4 percent). This book presents new and important research dealing with treatments and treatment programs aimed at alleviating the misery and loses to society of this vicious behavioural disorder.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each year, over one and a half million children experience the divorce of their parents. The goal of this book is to contribute to the advancement of knowledge regarding children of divorce, especially the practice of evaluation as it pertains to child custody. The reality of custody evaluation work invokes a plethora of specific circumstances regarding each family that must be taken into consideration. To work towards this goal, the author integrates scientific findings, relevant theory, and professional experience in a manner that is conceptually sound and useful in practice. Each chapter begins with a Practice Checklist to emphasize what is needed to engage in careful deliberation. Major topics include: applications of game theory to child custody; uncertainty in judgment from Nobel Prize-winning research; time sharing; collecting information from parents and collaterals; observing parental interaction with children; parental alienation; research on strategic behavior in divorce disputes; and gatekeeping. In addition, domestic violence, child abuse, substance abuse, relocation, report writing, ethics, guidelines, risk management, and practice improvement are discussed. This book also contains important new research on the PAI, PCRI, and MMPI-2 specific to child custody evaluation. This well-written text is an excellent resource for domestic relations attorneys, judges, family counselors, child protection workers, human services, advocates, and mental health professionals.
