Book Lewis Acids and Selectivity in Organic Synthesis

Download or read book Lewis Acids and Selectivity in Organic Synthesis written by M. Santelli and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-11-21 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lewis acids provide inexpensive access to elaborated molecules obtained with high selectivities (regio-, stereo-, and enantioselectivity). Lewis Acids and Selectivity in Organic Synthesis is the first book to deal with these new and promising roles of Lewis acids. The book begins with general considerations on Lewis acids and a description of Lewis acid-carbonyl complexes, which are involved in most of the reactions described: ene reactions, allylsilane and allyltin addition to carbonyl compounds, addition of nucleophiles to acetals, conjugated addition of allylsilanes and allyltins to unsaturated carbonyl compounds (Sakurai reaction), and Diels-Alder reaction. Subsequent chapters examine these issue in detail, with special attention given to the way Lewis acids induce diastereo- and enantioselectivity. The extensive use of schemes (approximately 1000) ensures rapid visual uptake of the information. Lewis Acids and Selectivity in Organic Synthesis serves as a valuable source of information for all who face the challenge of selectivity in organic synthesis.

Book Recent Experimental and Computational Advances in Molecular Spectroscopy

Download or read book Recent Experimental and Computational Advances in Molecular Spectroscopy written by Rui Fausto and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both molecular spectroscopy and computational chemistry have witnessed rapid significant progresses in recent years. On the one hand, it is nowadays possible to compute, to quite a reasonable degree of accuracy, almost all fundamental spectroscopic properties for small molecular systems. The theoretical approach is now properly considered to be of fundamental importance in attaining a high degree of understanding of spectroscopic information. Moreover, it may be also a great help in designing and planning experiments. On the other hand, new and very powerful experimental techniques have been developed. This book combines an advanced teaching standpoint with an emphasis on the interplay between theoretical and experimental molecular spectroscopy. It covers a wide range of topics (such as molecular dynamics and reactivity, conformational analysis, hydrogen bonding and solvent effects, spectroscopy of excited states, complex spectra interpretation and simulation, software development and biochemical applications of molecular spectroscopy) and considers a large variety of molecular spectroscopic techniques, either from an experimental or from a theoretical perspective. Book Organic Compounds of Sulphur Selenium and Tellurium

Download or read book Organic Compounds of Sulphur Selenium and Tellurium written by D H Reid and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. The current list of Specialist Periodical Reports can be seen on the inside flap of this volume.

Book Hypoxia and Cancer

    Book Details:
  • Author : Giovanni Melillo
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-11-09
  • ISBN : 1461491673
  • Pages : 362 pages

Download or read book Hypoxia and Cancer written by Giovanni Melillo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-09 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The imbalance between rapidly proliferating tumor cells and inadequate and inefficient tumor vasculature leads to a decrease in oxygen levels (hypoxia and/or anoxia) in tumor tissues. Intra-tumor hypoxia profoundly affects the biological behavior of cancer cells, which become resistant to conventional therapies and acquire a more invasive and metastatic phenotype. Hypoxia is a hallmark of the malignant phenotype and a key feature of the tumor microenvironment. Hypoxia Inducible Factor 1 (HIF-1) is a master regulator of the transcriptional response to oxygen deprivation. HIF triggers the expression of genes whose products induce angiogenesis, decrease oxygen consumption, switch metabolism to glycolysis, maintain a stem cell phenotype and select for more invasive and metastatic cells. Therapeutic approaches targeting HIF, directly or downstream mediators of its transcriptional activity, are being developed. Intra-tumor hypoxia is a topic has been gaining scientific interest over the last few years for its wide involvement in many physiological and pathological processes. This volume will cover the latest research and translational aspects associated with intra-tumor hypoxia, along with opportunities for drug development offered by this unique feature of the tumor microenvironment. The ongoing efforts to translate our understanding of the biology underlying intra-tumor hypoxia in viable therapeutic options face many challenges, but this book will provide an opportunity for an in-depth analysis of the fundamental mechanisms implicated in the adaption to low oxygen levels and will scrutinize the potential for opportunities that are being pursued in both research and the drug development industry.
