Book excerpt: It is quite studied the correlation of education on inequality in countries by economist as the effects differ from developed to developing countries. This papers analysis data from 1990-2019 across 25 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean to analyze the effects of tertiary education in the Gini Coefficient Index. The results from the panel analysis show that Gini Coefficient is related to some explanatory variables. The results found that tertiary education, gross domestic product per capita, population growth rate and poverty ratio were significant in affecting inequality in the Latin American and Caribbean countries across the 20 years. However, unemployment was not significant to the Gini Coefficient Index.

In the last years it seems that adult education has become a kind of provider of diplomas, skills and competences and has forgotten its role to enlighten individuals and help them to share their community life with an abundance of richness, diversity, sadness and happiness. Adult Education is intrinsically connected to daily life, and the life that individuals constantly edify in their interactions. If adult education is connected to daily life, one of the major tasks is to recover this feeling and to link daily life and education. I think that at present time, in a moment of intense reductionism, reality is usually presented as very plain, losing its complexity and diversity that are related to the fact that life is being lived everyday by men and women as creators and relational beings.

The topic has experienced a revival of interest since recent "Make Poverty History Campaigns" have brought the stark realities of world inequalities to the fore. However, public policy documents rarely highlight the contribution that adult education can make towards poverty reduction. This omission perhaps reflects, in part, a lack of understanding of the nature of adult education as a tool for development. This book attempts to plug some of those omissions in understanding for policy makers, practitioners and researchers alike. Beginning with a conceptual analysis of poverty and its relationship to adult education, subsequent chapters offer a variety of international perspectives on issues related to adult education policy, research and practice for poverty reduction. They address one or more cross cutting themes of empowerment/consciousness raising, targeted community participation, sustainability, gender inequalities, social capital, multi-sectoral approaches, and context-based literacies education. These themes all share a common commitment to holistic, pro-poor interpretations of poverty. Some chapters highlight concerns and issues, others demonstrate what can be done if the commitment and political will to make a difference are present. A concluding chapter looks at future research agendas and possibilities.
