Book A Selection of Drawings by Old Masters in the Museum Collections

Download or read book A Selection of Drawings by Old Masters in the Museum Collections written by Museum of Victoria and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-10 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Selection of Drawings by Old Masters in the Museum Collections: With a Catalogue and Notes The present exhibition consists of drawings from all these sources. Captain H. Reitlinger kindly volunteered his services in helping to make a selection and in preparing the following catalogue, which is based mainly on that of'mr. Reid. The introductory notes to each section and the comments on individualdrawings have been written by Captain Reitlinger, not so much for the professed expert as for the general student, with the hope of fostering a wider interest in the Museum collections. If he has dwelt somewhat on the historical aspect of the drawings, it is With the belief that it is impossible to appreciate a drawing fully without some understanding of its relationship to the period and country of its production. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Want to paint more like Manet and less like Jackson Pollock? Students of art hailed Classical Drawing Atelier, Juliette Aristides’s first book, as a dynamic return to the atelier educational model. Ateliers, popular in the nineteenth century, teach emerging artists by pairing them with a master artist over a period of years. The educational process begins as students copy masterworks, then gradually progress to painting as their skills develop. The many artists at every level who learned from Classical Drawing Atelier have been clamoring for more of this sophisticated approach to teaching and learning. In Classical Painting Atelier, Aristides, a leader in the atelier movement, takes students step-by-step through the finest works of Old Masters and today’s most respected realist artists to reveal the principles of creating full-color realist still lifes, portraits, and figure paintings. Rich in tradition, yet practical for today’s artists, Classical Painting Atelier is ideal for serious art students seeking a timeless visual education.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Old Masters, Vol. 1: One Hundred Examples of Their Work Chosen From European Galleries and Reproduced in Colour With Notes on the Pictures HE object of these volumes is, so far as may be possible, to bring some of the I great pictures of the world into our houses that we may have them always with us. That even the best photographs fail to do this is obvious; for while they serve well enough as reminders and give indeed the outline of the picture accurately enough, all the colour and atmosphere is lost, in the sombre brown or grey monotone into which some wonder full of sunshine has passed. Here at least something of that glory of colour has been kept with a really wonderful success, as in the marvellous triptych of Perugino or the Corryfeld of Constable. And whilst it remains impossible to reproduce an exact replica of any picture, it may safely be said that, so far as human ingenuity at present goes, the reproductions of the Old Masters here shown will be found to be as near the originals as it is possible to bring them. The whole series of a hundred pictures comprises a careful selection from the Picture Galleries of the world and from the work of all schools of Painting. Each volume contains fifty works, twenty of which are from paintings in the National Gallery, whilst others are from works at Rome, Florence, Paris, St Petersburg, Berlin, Dresden, Munich, and Vienna. We may add that every effort has been made to do the fullest justice possible to the Old Masters. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
