Book How the Chinese See the Europeans

Download or read book How the Chinese See the Europeans written by Li-Hua Zheng and published by Éditions Le Manuscrit. This book was released on 2016-03-08T00:00:00+01:00 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of a study carried out in Guangzhou (Canton), financed by the European Union and focusing on the perceptions that the Chinese have of Europe and Europeans. The perceptions tell us nothing or little about the social reality and the real behaviour of others. They are above all an implicit confrontation with the values of those who pronounce them. They act as a projection. Here, they express the framework of thought and implicit values of the Chinese, at the same time as they give a true idea of what the Chinese think of Europeans. It is the role of the social sciences to deconstruct these perceptions in order to objectivize them, that is to say put into perspective their link with the reality described. This done, it is possible to create a certain distance in relation to what is expressed, a certain relativism, the existence of which is necessary in an intercultural perspective.

Book Historical Dictionary of Science and Technology in Modern China

Download or read book Historical Dictionary of Science and Technology in Modern China written by Lawrence R. Sullivan and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2015-03-19 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Historical Dictionary of Science and Technology in Modern China provides the most up-to-date information on science and technology in China from the late nineteenth century to the present. Special attention is given to the historical factors, scientists, and historical figures behind each scientific development. In particular, this book pays attention to the scientists who were persecuted to death or tortured during the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976), and whose scientific research was therefore tragically cut short. The historical dictionary provides information on science and technology in China from the late nineteenth century to the present including: a chronology; introduction; extensive bibliography; over 700 cross-referenced dictionary entries on major scientific and technological fields and sub-fields; entries on western scholars and educators who also impacted scientific achievements in China. This book is an excellent access point for students, researchers, and anyone wanting to know more about the science and technology in China.

Book Economics and Politics of Energy

Download or read book Economics and Politics of Energy written by Behram N. Kursunogammalu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-11-23 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1995 conference was organized around two closely related themes and focused on the two pivotal aspects of energy, that is, economics and politics, both of which are decisive in providing long-term national and international strategies for the next century. Originally the program was going to include the participants from the new oil powers in Central Asia and Caucasus, newly independent from the former U.S.S.R. However, probably both economics and politics prevented their participation. Global energy projections, technological changes such as nuclear power and the fuel geopolitics of the coming century will be the basis for political and strategic planning. Based on the scenarios of likely global economic and population growth and of new energy technologies, what are foreseeable scenarios for the geopolitics of energy a half century ahead? What fresh worldwide systems should we start now? The political problems with profound economic impact could include, for example, the significance of the continuing worldwide growth of nuclear power, with such issues as the use of Highly Enriched Uranium (HEU) and Plutonium obtained from the dismantling of U.S. and former U.S.S.R. nuclear weapons; the urgency of nonproliferation; the disposal of civilian and military nuclear waste; and, nuclear power alternatives. In spite of U.S. reluctance, the increasing role of nuclear power is becoming apparent in several countries, and its potential has become an important political factor today.

Book The Making of an Alienated Generation

Download or read book The Making of an Alienated Generation written by Sai-Wing Leung and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-23 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1997, this volume examines the political apathy of the Hong Kong Chinese, with a particular focus on children in secondary schools. While most previous studies have been of adults, Leung’s approach exposes a generation who are politically uninvolved and disenchanted. He examines teacher-student encounters in a depoliticized school context and through a curriculum in which explicit political content is absent. The study throws light both on Chinese youths and the interaction of older and younger generations, and its macroscopic implications are distinctly ominous, suggesting trouble ahead for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Book Neutrino Models and Baryogenesis

Download or read book Neutrino Models and Baryogenesis written by Ng. K. Francis and published by Scientific Research Publishing, Inc. USA. This book was released on 2018-03-30 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Undeniably, today Neutrino Physics has become an important and emerging new field of intense research in Physics around the globe. The accolades received by the Neutrino Physicists speak volume about it. Besides, numerous other prizes, there have been four Nobel Prizes to its credit. The latest being the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physics to Professor TakaakiKajita and Professor Arthur B. Mcdonald for discovery of neutrino oscillations. This important breakthrough discovery which was first declared by Super-KamioKande at the Takayama Conference-NEUTRINO’98, can be termed as the watershed moment in the history of neutrino physics. With this discovery the study of neutrino physics has established a firm foundation. And matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe is one of the open problems in cosmology. Thus, connecting a low-energy to a high-energy physics is an issue of both particle physicists and cosmologists. Good number of books on neutrino physics have been written, but not on baryogenesis. And importantly, complete detailed books connecting these two beautiful subjects are yet to be written. The present book though not a complete detailed book is a modest attempt in that direction. The book attempts to find out the above unknown properties of neutrinos and study its implications to cosmology.
