Book Numerical Methods for Optimal Control Problems with State Constraints

Download or read book Numerical Methods for Optimal Control Problems with State Constraints written by Radoslaw Pytlak and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-08-19 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While optimality conditions for optimal control problems with state constraints have been extensively investigated in the literature the results pertaining to numerical methods are relatively scarce. This book fills the gap by providing a family of new methods. Among others, a novel convergence analysis of optimal control algorithms is introduced. The analysis refers to the topology of relaxed controls only to a limited degree and makes little use of Lagrange multipliers corresponding to state constraints. This approach enables the author to provide global convergence analysis of first order and superlinearly convergent second order methods. Further, the implementation aspects of the methods developed in the book are presented and discussed. The results concerning ordinary differential equations are then extended to control problems described by differential-algebraic equations in a comprehensive way for the first time in the literature.

Book Constrained Control and Estimation

Download or read book Constrained Control and Estimation written by Graham Goodwin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-03-30 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent developments in constrained control and estimation have created a need for this comprehensive introduction to the underlying fundamental principles. These advances have significantly broadened the realm of application of constrained control. - Using the principal tools of prediction and optimisation, examples of how to deal with constraints are given, placing emphasis on model predictive control. - New results combine a number of methods in a unique way, enabling you to build on your background in estimation theory, linear control, stability theory and state-space methods. - Companion web site, continually updated by the authors. Easy to read and at the same time containing a high level of technical detail, this self-contained, new approach to methods for constrained control in design will give you a full understanding of the subject.

Book Some Geometric Aspects of Optimal Control Problems with State Inequality Constraints

Download or read book Some Geometric Aspects of Optimal Control Problems with State Inequality Constraints written by Kenneth Var Saunders and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis deals with the investigation of geometric aspects of optimal control problems with state inequality constraints. An 'unrestricted' maximum principle is derived, whose associated adjoint equation possesses a solution which is continuous, except under special circumstances, even at junction points of an optimal trajectory with the state boundary. This result is shown to be valid under the assumption of regularity (in the sense of Pontryagin) as well as for certain non-regular problems. The relation between the 'unrestricted' maximum principle and the restricted one of Pontryagin is demonstrated. This investigation is based on the geometric notions introduced by Blaquiere and Leitmann and constitutes an extension of their work to problems with state variable inequality constraints. This geometric approach is contrasted with the approach of Dynamic Programming. (Author).

Book Computational Optimal Control

Download or read book Computational Optimal Control written by Dr Subchan Subchan and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-08-19 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational Optimal Control: Tools and Practice provides a detailed guide to informed use of computational optimal control in advanced engineering practice, addressing the need for a better understanding of the practical application of optimal control using computational techniques. Throughout the text the authors employ an advanced aeronautical case study to provide a practical, real-life setting for optimal control theory. This case study focuses on an advanced, real-world problem known as the “terminal bunt manoeuvre” or special trajectory shaping of a cruise missile. Representing the many problems involved in flight dynamics, practical control and flight path constraints, this case study offers an excellent illustration of advanced engineering practice using optimal solutions. The book describes in practical detail the real and tested optimal control software, examining the advantages and limitations of the technology. Featuring tutorial insights into computational optimal formulations and an advanced case-study approach to the topic, Computational Optimal Control: Tools and Practice provides an essential handbook for practising engineers and academics interested in practical optimal solutions in engineering. Focuses on an advanced, real-world aeronautical case study examining optimisation of the bunt manoeuvre Covers DIRCOL, NUDOCCCS, PROMIS and SOCS (under the GESOP environment), and BNDSCO Explains how to configure and optimize software to solve complex real-world computational optimal control problems Presents a tutorial three-stage hybrid approach to solving optimal control problem formulations

Book Constrained Optimal Control of Linear and Hybrid Systems

Download or read book Constrained Optimal Control of Linear and Hybrid Systems written by Francesco Borrelli and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-09-04 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many practical control problems are dominated by characteristics such as state, input and operational constraints, alternations between different operating regimes, and the interaction of continuous-time and discrete event systems. At present no methodology is available to design controllers in a systematic manner for such systems. This book introduces a new design theory for controllers for such constrained and switching dynamical systems and leads to algorithms that systematically solve control synthesis problems. The first part is a self-contained introduction to multiparametric programming, which is the main technique used to study and compute state feedback optimal control laws. The book's main objective is to derive properties of the state feedback solution, as well as to obtain algorithms to compute it efficiently. The focus is on constrained linear systems and constrained linear hybrid systems. The applicability of the theory is demonstrated through two experimental case studies: a mechanical laboratory process and a traction control system developed jointly with the Ford Motor Company in Michigan.
