Regulators, as well as the businesses themselves, face new challenges to control small point-source air pollution emissions. An individual business-such as a dry cleaner, auto repair shop, bakery, coffee roaster, photo print shop, or chemical company-may be an insignificant source of air pollution,but collectively, the industry becomes a noticeable source. Often the businesses are not equipped to respond to new regulatory requirements because of limited resources, experience, and expertise. Also, existing control strategies may be inappropriate for these businesses, having been developed for major industries with high volumes, high pollutant concentrations, and substantial corporateresources. Gas-phase photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) is an option for eliminating low-concentration, low-flow-rate emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from small business point sources. The advantages PCO has over other treatment techniques are presented in this paper. This paper also describes how PCO can be applied to specific air pollution problems. We present our methodology foridentifying pollution problems for which PCO is applicable and for reaching the technology's potential end users. PCO is compared to other gas-phase VOC control technologies.

It seems appropriate to encourage the development of reference values or specific action values in order to better manage particularly problematic situations in these environments. In the absence of national references to be used for a comparison, it is possible to use those reported in the legislation of other European countries or, by ad hoc working groups or by analogy, to use other standards such as those relating to ambient air.

In general, coatings are desirable, or even necessary, for a variety of reasons including economics, material conservation, unique properties, or the engineering and design flexibility which can be obtained by separating the surface properties from the bulk properties. Surface engineered products thus increase performance, reduce costs, control surface properties independently of the substrate and medium, thus offering an enormous potential in the finishing Industry. Electrodepositing of metals is a very significant industrial process. Electroplating is both an art and science .It entailed adhering a thin metal coating to an object by immersing it into an electrically charged solvent containing the dissolved plating metal. Electroplating served a number of functions, such as protecting from corrosion and wear, decoration, and electrical shielding. Anodizing most closely resembles standard electroplating. Anodizing or anodizing is an electrolytic passivation process used to increase the thickness of the natural oxide layer on the surface of metal parts. Anodizing increases corrosion resistance and wears resistance, and provides better adhesion for paint primers and glues than bare metal. Anodic films are most commonly applied to protect aluminium alloys.The aim of this handbook is to give the reader a perspective on several metal surface treatment techniques which are generally followed in the finishing Industry.
