This book was released on 1998-02-04 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A complete, up-to-date review of fiber-optic communication systems theory and practice Fiber-optic communication systems technology continues to evolve rapidly. In the last five years alone, the bit rate of commercial point-to-point links has grown from 2.5 Gb/s to 40 Gb/s-and that figure is expected to more than double over the next two years! Such astonishing progress can be both inspiring and frustrating for professionals who need to stay abreast of important new developments in the field. Now Fiber-Optic Communication Systems, Second Edition makes that job a little easier. Based on its author's exhaustive review of the past five years of published research in the field, this Second Edition, like its popular predecessor, provides an in-depth look at the state of the art in fiber-optic communication systems. While engineering aspects are discussed, the emphasis is on a physical understanding of this complex technology, from its basic concepts to the latest innovations. Thoroughly updated and expanded, Fiber-Optic Communication Systems, Second Edition: * Includes 30% more information, including four new chapters focusing on the latest lightwave systems R&D * Covers fundamental aspects of lightwave systems as well as a wide range of practical applications * Functions as both a graduate-level text and a professional reference * Features extensive references and chapter-end problem sets.

Book Optical Fiber Communications Principles and Practice

Download or read book Optical Fiber Communications Principles and Practice written by Edwin Conway and published by Scientific e-Resources. This book was released on 2019-11-05 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of fibre optics communications has exploded over the past two decades. Fibre is an integral part of modern day communication infrastructure and can be found along roads, in buildings, hospitals and machinery. Fibre optic communication has revolutionised the telecommunications industry. It has also made its presence widely felt within the data networking community as well. Using fibre optic cable, optical communications have enabled telecommunications links to be made over much greater distances and with much lower levels of loss in the transmission medium and possibly most important of all, fiber optical communications has enabled much higher data rates to be accommodated. Optical fibers can be used to transmit light and thus information over long distances. Fiber-based systems have largely replaced radio transmitter systems for long-haul optical data transmission. They are widely used for telephony, but also for Internet traffic, long high-speed local area networks (LANs), cable TV (CATV), and increasingly also for shorter distances within buildings. In most cases, silica fibers are used, except for very short distances, where plastic optical fibers can be advantageous. The basic components are light signal transmitter, the optical fiber, and the photo detecting receiver. The additional elements such as fiber and cable splicers and connectors, regenerators, beam splitters, and optical amplifiers are employed to improve the performance of the communication system. The book offers a completely up-to-date, accessible, and in-depth introduction to the principles and applications of optical fiber communications. It describes the recent developments in optical fiber communication materials, devices, components, and systems.

Book Fiber Optic Communications

Download or read book Fiber Optic Communications written by Shiva Kumar and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-06-12 with total page 573 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fiber-optic communication systems have advanced dramatically over the last four decades, since the era of copper cables, resulting in low-cost and high-bandwidth transmission. Fiber optics is now the backbone of the internet and long-distance telecommunication. Without it we would not enjoy the benefits of high-speed internet, or low-rate international telephone calls. This book introduces the basic concepts of fiber-optic communication in a pedagogical way. The important mathematical results are derived by first principles rather than citing research articles. In addition, physical interpretations and real-world analogies are provided to help students grasp the fundamental concepts. Key Features: Lucid explanation of key topics such as fibers, lasers, and photodetectors. Includes recent developments such as coherent communication and digital signal processing. Comprehensive treatment of fiber nonlinear transmission. Worked examples, exercises, and answers. Accompanying website with PowerPoint slides and numerical experiments in MATLAB. Intended primarily for senior undergraduates and graduates studying fiber-optic communications, the book is also suitable as a professional resource for researchers working in the field of fiber-optic communications.

Book Fiber Optic Communication Systems

Download or read book Fiber Optic Communication Systems written by Govind P. Agrawal and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-02-23 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive account of fiber-optic communication systems. The 3rd edition of this book is used worldwide as a textbook in many universities. This 4th edition incorporates recent advances that have occurred, in particular two new chapters. One deals with the advanced modulation formats (such as DPSK, QPSK, and QAM) that are increasingly being used for improving spectral efficiency of WDM lightwave systems. The second chapter focuses on new techniques such as all-optical regeneration that are under development and likely to be used in future communication systems. All other chapters are updated, as well.
