Book Containment of High Level Radioactive and Hazardous Solid Wastes with Clay Barriers

Download or read book Containment of High Level Radioactive and Hazardous Solid Wastes with Clay Barriers written by Raymond N. Yong and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2010-05-31 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the principal objections to or problems with the use of nuclear fuel is that a proven method for safe disposal of spent nuclear fuel has yet to be established. The central focus of most schemes underway to dispose of these high-level radioactive wastes relies on clay-based buffers and barriers to isolate spent fuel canisters in borehole

Book Stabilization and Solidification of Hazardous Radioactive and Mixed Wastes

Download or read book Stabilization and Solidification of Hazardous Radioactive and Mixed Wastes written by T. Michael Gilliam and published by ASTM International. This book was released on 1992 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation Provides current information on the use of stabilization and solidification (S/S), as well as an international perspective on the role of S/S for treating waste residues. Thirty-nine papers by researchers working with S/S technologies from both the low-level radioactive and chemically hazardous waste communities are presented in sections on: regulatory and technical guidance; specialty wastes--organics, ashes, and resins; laboratory-scale leachability studies; laboratory-scale process development; test method development; and large-scale evaluation or demonstration. Member price, $62. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR.

Book Waste Solidification Program

Download or read book Waste Solidification Program written by K. J. Schneider and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: General design criteria and descriptions of the Waste Solidification Engineering Prototypes equipment are discussed. The WSEP is a developmental facility for solidifying highly radioactive liquid wastes from reprocessing of power reactor fuels by the pot, spray, and phosphate glass processes. Design criteria are based upon providing a developmental facility with a high degree of flexibility and integrity for demonstrations of various waste solidification processes and equipment with fully radioactive materials. Special features of the equipment for process and mechanical functions to be performed during the demonstrations are presented. Process functions include overall flowsheet requirements, process control features, process effluent treatment and control, and special features of process equipment. Mechanical functions include remote handling and transfer of material and equipment, and storage and testing of containers full of soldified waste. Equipment performance during nonradioactive shakedown tests, and the process safety review are summarized. Equipment performance has been good, and the first radioactive run was made in the WSEP in November 1966.

Book Options for the Treatment and Solidification of Organic Radioactive Wastes

Download or read book Options for the Treatment and Solidification of Organic Radioactive Wastes written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solid and liquid organic radioactive wastes are generated from nuclear fuel cycle facilities and nuclear research centres, from certain uses of radioisotopes in medicine, and from research and development in other fields. Compared to other radioactive wastes, the volume of organic wastes generated is small; nevertheless they require a waste management strategy for safe handling, processing and final disposal. This report presents a review of the latest technical information available on options for the treatment and conditioning of organic radioactive wastes.
