Book Solar powered irrigation Study of Ingotse village Kakamega County Kenya

Download or read book Solar powered irrigation Study of Ingotse village Kakamega County Kenya written by Ndogo Ndung’a, S. and published by CTA. This book was released on 2016-12-31 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This case study describes the community of a small village called Ingotse in Kakamega county in western Kenya. Like most rural, food-insecure communities in sub-Saharan Africa, Ingotse village relied on rain-fed agriculture for production of staple crops. Farmers in this village raised some funds to sink a borehole. This was done in collaboration with a non-governmental organisation (NGO) known as Water for All which gave the community a solar-powered pump to distribute the water to the homesteads. Water from the borehole was used for irrigation, providing food crops all year round. Women and children no longer had to walk long distances to the river to fetch water; they had extra time in their day for other activities such as doing homework with children.

Book The Benefits and Risks of Solar Powered Irrigation a global overview

Download or read book The Benefits and Risks of Solar Powered Irrigation a global overview written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2018-04-12 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report gives a state-of-the-art overview of policies, regulations and incentives for the sustainable use of solar-powered irrigation technologies (SPIS) around the world. SPIS offer a viable, low-tech energy solution for irrigated agriculture, providing a reliable source of energy in remote areas, contributing to rural electrification, reducing energy costs for irrigation and enabling low emission agriculture. Nevertheless, SPIS have a significant initial investment cost and require innovative financing models to overcome this barrier to adoption, especially for small-scale farmers. Technical knowledge and service infrastructure is needed to ensure that the systems run effectively. Moreover, SPIS – if not adequately managed - bear the risk of fostering unsustainable water use as lower energy costs may lead to over-abstraction of groundwater. This report looks at how different countries work to create an enabling environment for SPIS technologies, while managing the risks that come with it.

Book Solar powered Irrigation Systems Study

Download or read book Solar powered Irrigation Systems Study written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study is part of a larger research effort to project U.S. energy demand and energy prices by state from 1985 to 2015; these projections will be used to assess the potential penetration into the U.S. energy economy by specific solar systems. The detailed agricultural energy price forecasts for the 1985-2015 period used by The Aerospace Corporation to assess the market potential of solar-powered irrigation system is presented. Energy price forecasts in constant 1977 dollars are presented by aggregated county regions in the six states for four major sources of energy used in pumping of irrigation water: liquid petroleum gas (LPG), diesel fuel, natural gas, and electricity. (WHK).

Book The use of solar energy in irrigated agriculture

Download or read book The use of solar energy in irrigated agriculture written by Salman, M., Abdelfattah, A., Ahmad, W., Simongini, C. and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2022-02-11 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decade, solar energy has experienced a rapid growth, which brings both environmental and economic benefits. In many countries, there is still no electricity grid extension in rural areas, and in the absence of a reliable electricity supply, farmers have to resort to diesel-based pumping irrigation systems. The solar photovoltaic (PV) system generates clean energy and eliminates the risk of environmental pollution in the form of oil spills, contaminated soil and carbon dioxide emissions. Operation and maintenance of the solar PV pumping system is a technical job that requires specialized knowledge and information to keep the system in working condition and sustainable and in working conditions. For this purpose, this sourcebook is designed to provide information on the design, operation, inspection, troubleshooting, and maintenance of solar PV pumping systems.

Book Solar Pumping for Water Supply

Download or read book Solar Pumping for Water Supply written by ALBERTO. W. KIPRONO IBANEZ LLARIO (ASENATH.) and published by . This book was released on 2020-09-28 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solar power for pumping groundwater has a vast potential for improving the sustainability of water supply schemes. However experience also shows that a lack of knowledge, capacity and expertise to design and implement such schemes is holding back their adoption. This book bridges this gap to equip engineers and technicians with the requisite knowledge for design, implementation and operation of sustainable solar powered water schemes.Solar Pumping for Water Supply is a state of the art review of solar water pumping technology combined with practical insights, lessons and best practices drawn from experience. It takes the reader step by step through the different phases that comprise a solar water pumping project, namely: assessment, design, purchase of equipment, installation, operation and management. The book also covers the economics of using solar pumping technology, especially when compared to diesel generators and hand pumps. Finally, the social aspects are included, specifically relating to the operation and management of solar pumping systems and the role that beneficiaries, implementers, government and the private sector might play to ensure long-lasting water supply. The book provides links and references to tools, documents and videos to accompany the content of the different chapters.Essential reading for solar technical practitioners at NGOs, UN agencies, government offices and private sector, including Global and Regional Technical advisors and Field engineers wanting to understand and know how to design water systems using solar power. A basic knowledge in the field of water supply is assumed, but no previous knowledge of solar photovoltaic technology is required.Alberto Ibáñez Llario is a Global Solar and Water Advisor with the International Organization for Migration and has 15 years of experience in water systems and solar PV in various locations around the world.Asenath Kiprono is a solar water pumping expert with 12 years' experience in design and implementation of pumping systems in rural Africa, including solar pumping systems in the private, public and humanitarian sectors.
