Book SUSTAINABLE SOLAR ENERGY SYSTEMS Challenges and Economics for the Arab World

Download or read book SUSTAINABLE SOLAR ENERGY SYSTEMS Challenges and Economics for the Arab World written by Salah El-Haggar and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2016-11-05 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The urgency of exploring alternative energy sources, especially in regions so detrimentally affected by current energy practices on environmental, humanitarian and political levels warrants a crucial effort in raising awareness and activism about renewable energy and sustainable development. Sustainable Solar Energy Systems is a primer on the application of solar energy technology for sustainable development. This handbook starts with an introduction to basic concepts of solar energy, describes the mechanisms and benefits of related technologies, and presents a case study in an Arabian poultry farm. The book also includes details on how to conduct economic feasibility studies of solar power projects. The book is a suitable reference for general readers or students undertaking environmental science or engineering courses with specific modules on solar energy projects. Readers will be able to understand the benefits of solar energy systems in the context of an increasing concern about the use of renewable energy under conditions of global warming and declining fossil fuel reserves.

Book The Sun Is Rising in Africa and the Middle East

Download or read book The Sun Is Rising in Africa and the Middle East written by Peter F. Varadi and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-03-26 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both Africa and the Middle East are blessed with enormous solar energy resources. Electrification is an urgent need in Africa, where many of its 54 countries are among the world’s fastest-growing economies, but where half the population still has no access to electricity. Solar energy is seen as the fastest and cheapest path to addressing this need. Oil-rich countries in the Middle East are turning to solar energy to meet the growing domestic demand for electricity, freeing up hydrocarbons for export. This book describes the energy transition in Africa and the Middle East, from dependence on fossil fuels to increasing reliance on solar energy. The authors were assisted by the contributions of top experts Wolfgang Palz, Anil Cabraal, and Richenda Van Leeuwen in their efforts to provide a sound basis for understanding where solar energy is heading in these two important global regions.

Book Renewable Energy in the Middle East

Download or read book Renewable Energy in the Middle East written by Michael Mason and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-08-04 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy insecurity is not normally associated with the Middle East. However, away from the oil-rich Persian Gulf, the countries of the eastern Mediterranean are particularly vulnerable. Their fossil fuel endowments are low, while their fractious relationships with each other have long fostered wider political insecurities. Focusing on the Jordan Basin (Israel, the Palestinian Territories, Lebanon and Jordan), this timely volume addresses the prospects for the adoption of renewable energy in the oil-poor Middle East. Featuring regional energy experts, it offers an invaluable survey. After outlining the regional security context, this book first reviews renewable energy policy and practices in the Jordan Basin. It then considers options for greening energy use, including promising pilot projects in North Africa. The initiatives discussed encompass renewable energy finance, energy-efficient rural communities, and solar and wind energy. There is significant potential for an increase in the uptake of renewable energy technologies in the eastern Mediterranean. This window of opportunity has been created by high oil prices, energy infrastructure investment opportunities, and the UN climate change regime. In conclusion, the book considers the institutional conditions for collaborative decision-making on renewable energy. Such cooperation would deliver substantial security and human development benefits to the region, and indeed the world.

Download or read book Sun Wind and Desert written by Paul van Son and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2023-12-12 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no shortage of climate-neutral energy. There is only the global task of tapping climate-neutral energy sources both locally on a small scale and globally on a large scale and connecting them to the centres of consumption. This book focuses on the enormous potential in Europes neighbourhood. The huge, very cost-effective and secure solar and wind energy from the deserts of North Africa and the Middle East North Africa (MENA) will be developed developed - by local governments partnering with (international) companies - at a great pace. At the same time, offshore wind energy in Europes seas will become the mainstay of energy supply for our industry.

Book The Water Energy and Food Security Nexus in the Arab Region

Download or read book The Water Energy and Food Security Nexus in the Arab Region written by Kamel Amer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-01 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the need for a more open and interdisciplinary dialogue on the nexus of food, water and energy security in the Arab region. It argues that achieving sustainable economic development is irretrievably tied to the security of the water–energy–food nexus, which is in turn essential for bringing about sustained peace. Further, it discusses various approaches to achieving these lofty objectives, and offers the following take-away messages: The Arab region is currently under considerable water stress, and the situation will continue to get worse with a number of global changes – most notably those related to climate and regional water distribution. Viable solutions are available in the Arab region and can be implemented through innovative policies, judicious use of new technologies, and stimulating public opinion. Integration across water, energy, and food sectors is obviously needed but achieving it in practice is extremely challenging. There are some gaps in the scientific understanding but at the same time there is a wealth of data and synthesized information that can guide decision-making.
