Book The Upper Atmosphere

    Book Details:
  • Author : Richard A. Craig
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2016-06-03
  • ISBN : 1483282163
  • Pages : 522 pages

Download or read book The Upper Atmosphere written by Richard A. Craig and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Upper Atmosphere: Meteorology and Physics focuses on the study of the characteristics, movements, composition, and observations of the upper atmosphere. The book first offers information on the meteorological conditions in the lower stratosphere and the structure and circulation of the upper stratosphere and the mesosphere. Topics include balloon sounding systems, climatology of the lower stratosphere, disturbed circulation of the lower stratosphere, rocket measurements, and frequent measurements with balloons and meteorological rockets. The text then ponders on the sun's radiation and the upper atmosphere and composition of the stratosphere and mesosphere. The manuscript elaborates on the composition and structure of the thermosphere, including photochemical processes, diffusion, composition and structure measurements, and structure of the thermosphere. The text also ponders on radiative processes and heat transfer; atmospheric tides and winds in the lower thermosphere; and transport of properties in the upper atmosphere. The publication is a valuable source of information for readers interested in the meteorology and physics of the upper atmosphere.

Book The Atmosphere and Climate of Mars

Download or read book The Atmosphere and Climate of Mars written by Robert M. Haberle and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-06-29 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humanity has long been fascinated by the planet Mars. Was its climate ever conducive to life? What is the atmosphere like today and why did it change so dramatically over time? Eleven spacecraft have successfully flown to Mars since the Viking mission of the 1970s and early 1980s. These orbiters, landers and rovers have generated vast amounts of data that now span a Martian decade (roughly eighteen years). This new volume brings together the many new ideas about the atmosphere and climate system that have emerged, including the complex interplay of the volatile and dust cycles, the atmosphere-surface interactions that connect them over time, and the diversity of the planet's environment and its complex history. Including tutorials and explanations of complicated ideas, students, researchers and non-specialists alike are able to use this resource to gain a thorough and up-to-date understanding of this most Earth-like of planetary neighbours.

Download or read book Meteorological Investigations of the Upper Atmosphere written by R. S. Quiroz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-07 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of the American Meteorological Society are "the development and dissemination of knowledge of meteorology in all its phases and applications, and the advancement of its professional ideals." The organization of the Society took place in affiliation with the American Association for the Advancement of Science at Saint Louis, Missouri, December 29, 1919, and its incorporation, at Washington, D. C., January 21, 1920. The work of the Society is carried on by the Bulletin, the Journal, and Meteorological Monographs, by papers and discussions at meetings of the Society, through the offices of the Secretary and the Executive Secretary, and by correspondence. All of the Americas are represented in the membership of the Society as well as many foreign countries.

Book An Investigation of Atmospheric Density Between Altitudes of 180 Km and 300 Km

Download or read book An Investigation of Atmospheric Density Between Altitudes of 180 Km and 300 Km written by Leonard L. DeVries and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A knowledge of atmospheric density and its variation at satellite altitudes is needed for operational support of several military activities. Atmospheric density data computed from the decay rates of more than 40 satellites orbited during a five-year period were analyzed during this investigation. Multiple regression equations were derived to specify the density at 10-km intervals at altitudes from 180 to 300 km as a function of solar activity, time of day, time of year, and combinations of these variables. Density values depicted by these regression equations were then compared with density data which had not been used during the derivation of the equations. The results of this investigation indicate that multiple regression analysis and the associated screening procedure can produce equations from which computed density values are in close agreement with observed density data. The results lead to a conclusion that no single density model can meet all needs. These results also indicate that characteristics of a density model should be selected to fit the purpose for which the model is intended. Four possible density models designed for different purposes are suggested. (Author).
