Book Human Interference on River Health

Download or read book Human Interference on River Health written by Shreya Bandyopadhyay and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-29 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines in detail the health of India’s Haora River, which is of vital importance as the lifeline of Agartala, the Capital City of Tripura. From its source in the Baramura Hills, the river debouches onto the rolling plains of Chandrasadhubari. Thousands of people between Chandrasadhubari and the boundary of Bangladesh have settled along the riverbanks and are directly dependent on the river. Since the 1970s the ever-growing population of the Haora River basin has been exerting tremendous pressure on the river. Several anthropogenic activities affect the river, increasing sedimentation and pollution, and are leading the Haora River toward its dying phase. This book presents the problems related to the overall health of the Haora River and discusses some proposals for restoring the ecological balance and geo-political stability of this strategically important part of the country.

Book A Treatise of Indian and Tropical Soils

Download or read book A Treatise of Indian and Tropical Soils written by D.K. Pal and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-08 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses how to apply the basic principles of pedology to the tropical soils of the Indian subcontinent, with an emphasis on ways to enhance crop productivity. The book showcases the research contributions on pedology, geomorphology, mineralogy, micromorphology and climate change collected from the literature on three major soil types: shrink-swell soils, red ferruginous (RF) soils and the soils that occur in the tropical environments of the Indo-Gangetic Plains (IGP). It also provides insights into several aspects of five pedogenetically important soil orders like Alfisols, Mollisols, Ultisols, Vertisols and Inceptisols found in tropical Indian environments. Documenting the significance of minerals in soils and their overall influence in soil science in terms of pedology, paleopedology, polygenesis and edaphology, it provides a knowledge base that is critical when attempting to bridge the gap between food production and population growth.

Book Plant Micronutrients

    Book Details:
  • Author : Tariq Aftab
  • Publisher : Springer Nature
  • Release : 2020-08-04
  • ISBN : 3030498565
  • Pages : 470 pages

Download or read book Plant Micronutrients written by Tariq Aftab and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-04 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plants require essential nutrients (macronutrients and micronutrients) for normal functioning. Sufficiency range is the levels of nutrients necessary to meet the plant’s needs for optimal growth. This range depends on individual plant species and the particular nutrient. Nutrient levels outside of a plant’s sufficiency range cause overall crop growth and health to decline, due either to deficiency or toxicity from over-accumulation. Apart from micronutrients (B, Cl, Mn, Fe, Zn, Cu and Mo), Aluminum (Al), cerium (Ce), cobalt (Co), iodine (I), lanthanum (La), sodium (Na), selenium (Se), silicon (Si), titanium (Ti), and vanadium (V) are emerging as novel biostimulants that may enhance crop productivity and nutritional quality. These beneficial elements are not "essential" but when supplied at low dosages, they augment plant growth, development, and yield by stimulating specific molecular, biochemical, and physiological pathways in responses to challenging environments. The book is the first reference volume that approaches plant micronutrient management with the latest biotechnological and omics tools. Expertly curated chapters highlight working solutions as well as open problems and future challenges in plant micronutrient deficiency or toxicity. We believe this book will introduce readers to state-of-the-art developments and research trends in this field.

Book Geotechnical Characteristics of Soils and Rocks of India

Download or read book Geotechnical Characteristics of Soils and Rocks of India written by Sanjay Kumar Shukla and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-12-31 with total page 872 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents mainly the geotechnical details of geomaterials (soils and rocks) found in all the 36 states and union territories of India. There are 37 chapters in this book. Chapter 1 provides an overview of geomaterials, focusing on their engineering properties as determined based on the project site investigations and laboratory/field tests; this will help readers understand the technical details explained throughout the book, with each chapter dealing with geomaterials of one state/union territory only. Each chapter, contributed by a team of authors, follows a common template with the following sections: introduction, major types of soils and rocks, properties of soils and rocks, use of soils and rocks as construction materials, foundation and other geotechnical structures, other geomaterials, natural hazards, case studies and field tests, geoenvironmental impact on soils and rocks, concluding remarks and references. All the chapters cover highly practical information and technical data for application in ground infrastructure projects, including foundations of structures (buildings, towers, tanks, machines and so on), highway, railway and airport pavements, embankments, retaining structures/walls, dams, reservoirs, canals and ponds, and landfills and tunnels. These details are also highly useful for professionals dealing with mining, oil and gas projects and agricultural and aquacultural engineering projects. Although this book covers the Indian ground characteristics, the information provided can be helpful in some suitable forms to the professionals of other countries having similar ground conditions and applications.
