Book Soil Nailing

Download or read book Soil Nailing written by Raymond Cheung and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-03-11 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soil nailing is an in situ soil reinforcement technique that can be used to enhance the stability of slopes, retaining walls, embankments, and excavations. It involves installation of closely spaced, relatively slender unstressed tension-carrying structural elements into the ground to stabilize the soil mass. These elements, which are called soil nails, comprise steel or other engineering materials such as fiber reinforced polymer. Soil nailing did not gain popularity until the 1970s when engineers started to realize that the technique could offer an effective, robust, and economical reinforcing system for a variety of ground conditions. More importantly, the track record has been excellent in that no major collapses have been reported in properly designed and well-constructed soil nailed structures so far. Considerable experience and knowledge of the technique have been gained in the past few decades through systematic technical development work comprising laboratory tests, numerical modeling, physical modeling, site trials and field monitoring covering design, and construction practices. Soil Nailing: A Practical Guide consolidates the experience and advances made in the development and use of the soil nailing technique and encourages a wider adoption of the technique by practitioners. The book is intended for use by postgraduate students, researchers, and practicing civil and geotechnical engineers, who wish to have a more in-depth and fundamental understanding of the theory and practice behind the technique. It presents the basic principles of the technique as well as state-of-the-art knowledge and recommended standard of good practice in respect of design, construction, monitoring, and maintenance of soil nailed structures.

Book Ground Improvement Geosystems

Download or read book Ground Improvement Geosystems written by Michael C. R. Davies and published by Thomas Telford. This book was released on 1997 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers presented in this volume describe the latest developments from around the world on ground improvement by densification and reinforcement. They describe new research into improving the understanding of the problems facing geotechnical engineers working in the field of ground improvement and the advances in the techniques available to them. Numerous case studies show how new and improved methods have actually been applied over a wide variety of ground conditions.

Book Proposed Specifications for LRFD Soil nailing Design and Construction

Download or read book Proposed Specifications for LRFD Soil nailing Design and Construction written by Carlos Alberto Lazarte and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2011 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains proposed specifications for the design and construction of soil-nailed retaining structures. Despite their advantages in cut applications, these structures are not available to some state DOTs, due to the lack of guidance for their use in AASHTO's standard specifications based on load and resistance factor design (LRFD).

Book Handbook of Slope Stabilisation

Download or read book Handbook of Slope Stabilisation written by J. A. R. Ortigao and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is aimed at the practising engineer and engineering geologist working in tropical environments, where lands lides are mainly triggered by rain fall. This book is based on a similar work published in 1999 in Portuguese, which became the Rio de Janeiro Slope Manual. This book is an engineering guide for the design of slopes and stabilisation works in rocks and residual soils. It evolves from the cumulative experience gathered by several engineers and geologists who faced severe slope problems. The authors' experience throughout Central and South America (Costa Rica, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Venezuela) and the Far East, especially Hong Kong and Malaysia, was used as a foundation for writing this book. The work also benefits enormously from the time spent in Hong Kong in 1996 and 1997 by the first editor on sabbatical at the City University of Hong Kong, and the discussions he had with many colleagues from the Geotechnical Engineering Office (GEO) of the Hong Kong Government, especially Dr. A. Malone, Mr. w.K. Pun, Dr. A. Li, Mr. K. Ho, and Mr. y.c. Chan among others.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Earth reinforcement techniques are used worldwide, providing dependable solutions to a wide range of geotechnical engineering problems.Well-established earth reinforcement technologies are regularly augmented by new materials, innovative construction techniques and advances in design and analysis. Furthermore, reinforced earth structures are increasingly seen as expedient and economical techniques in disaster situations, such as earthquakes, flooding or tsunamis. NEW HORIZONS in EARTH REINFORCEMENT contains contributions from the 5th International Symposium on Earth Reinforcement, Kyushu, Japan, 14-16 November 2007, and presents the very latest earth reinforcement techniques and design procedures. The volume showcases advances in materials and emerging applications, with special emphasis on disaster mitigation and geoenvironmental issues. The book will be invaluable to academics and professionals in geotechnical engineering.
